I have a 2017 Rallye. I have not ridden it much off road. It's a dream on the highway and around town. Just knowing that it can go off the beaten path (in the hands of a capable rider) inspires me. I took the knobby tires off and sold them. Some regret. Awesome, awesome video ...thanks!
Jim Thompson get yourself on the BMW ORS course in Wales. They use these bikes too. I had not ridden a motorbike in 5 years, but you will be surprised at how easy they are to handle and what you are capable of. I love the rallye because of the course. Course was a gift to me, so yep I was very lucky. Also you will have the off road fun without destroying your own bike...
Well done on an obviously tough track! Must have been pretty tiring. I’m shocked you pulled that off with Anakees. Some knobbies with less air will transform your experience. Thanks for sharing a great adventure on a beautiful track.
Good video!! Been to wales a few times on my GS and struggled to find trails/green lanes like this... where abouts is this if you don’t mind me asking? It looks amazing!
WOW you did even too much on road tires!! The Karoo3 also is not the best one in those conditions, best is a knobby tire like Capra X or TKC80, so thumbs up to both of you and a special thumb up for the scenary. cheers from Italy!
Cool stuff well done boys! Looking at trading my basic 13 model on a 2018 rallye. Is the suspension any better or is it all in the colour scheme? I think the tank shape looks a bit better on the rallye or maybe thats just across the range as they evolved?
We go up Breedts neck, here in Gauteng Johannesburg, South Africa, very hard, but if you pick your lines properly and keep the momentum up, you can make it , very rewarding.I have a 2010 GS the GSA's are to bulky, I do everything and more , I dont need an extra 10litres, I would rather take my 6liter fuel sack
Hi Ian, yes we were both in 'Enduro Pro Mode' with traction control disabled. I left the ABS enabled, I think Pete has his disabled. You can notice the difference in throttle response between the modes, especially Rain v's Dynamic but this was my first time off-road on this bike so I don't have enough experience with it to tell you much more.
Love it :-) How did you find all the legal green lanes? I've used the bywaymap.com website to look for some in England, and when I got to them they weren't open to traffic :-( I took my multistrada 1200, put it in enduro mode, but I also had road tyres on, as well as the cast wheels :-/
MojoTheJester Thanks! The easiest way to find lanes is to join the TRF trf.org.uk. You can then follow an experienced ride leader with local knowledge and pickup routes as you go along. Best £45 you can spend on your bike. I’d love to try the Multistrada. ✊️
Once again we have some GS riders who insist on bashing a square (and extremely expensive) peg into a round hole. Well done for not damaging the bikes.
These were just normal trails, nothing extreme, the ‘Square Peg’ can manage them with ease. The attitude of the rider is the limiting factor most of the time in my experience. Enjoy your riding whatever bike you choose.
I own a Gsa and admitted defeat off road , Imo they are far far too heavy , the suspension is too hard with not enough travel. Well done better men than me.
Pete Turner try the Off Road Skills course in Wales, I had not ridden a bike in 5 years, went on the course (gift) and found it handled brilliantly. I only had a years riding experience prior to the. Long spell with no bike. Right training, right tyres... right result
Ah it's a shame you don't have legal trails to ride. All of these routes in Wales are legal, funny to think that we have to pay road tax to use these roads.
Mark Hollingsworth Every off-road trail is in private hand. You have to ask the owner but how to find him? Everytime its winter in Switzerland i take my 2013 Sertao and go out for a snow ride over fields.. its illegal :X
Hi Graeme, I started on a DR350 before moving to a KTM 350-f, then a 250-f and now have a 250 EXC. These lanes would be much easier on a trail or enduro bike, but that's the point, it's more of a challenge on the bigger bikes, that's why we do it.
Half of the video makes me wet my pants, but 3:57 is like watching a horror movie. It looks like if your (road) tire slides away or if you accidentally lean on the wrong side when stopping, you‘d fall straight down the slope into the sea. Also, if the path became unrideable, you have zero chance to turn around. Please, please tell me, it’s not as bad as it looks.
@@mholly I hope you're right, but that looks very much like a yellow footpath marker to me 😉. Maybe they just follow the same route for a small section...
I'd only had the bike a couple of weeks at the time of this ride and hadn't had a chance to get new tyres. As it was, the front was a bit sketchy in places but there was a surprising amount of grip. I fitted Michelin Anakee Wilds shortly afterwards which worked really well, with loads of side grip from the front tyre.
The video is beautiful but as a spectator I tell you that you do a lot of work on the bike and a little arms and legs, uselessly straining the transmission !

That is brilliant. I've ridden some of those trails on small enduro bikes and they are pretty tough, big respect to you both on 1200GS's.
Well done ...... you did it very very well in such a difficult terrain BRAVO
Wow! If I could ever do a trail like that. Amazing! Impressed with you guys.
Wow! Really impressive on road tyres!
Well done...the video never shows how hard these sections actually are..👍🏴
Well done on an obviously tough track! Must have been pretty tiring. I’m shocked you pulled that off with Anakees. Some knobbies with less air will transform your experience.
Thanks for sharing a great adventure on a beautiful track.
puts a smile on your face big thumbs up
I love the look of the apposed cylinders! My dad used to have an R75/7
Loved that. Excellent videography and editing too.
bikes are really heavy and you got some skills, well done!
I love wales scenery... please uploading every week :)
Great video, beautiful scenery, nice to see those bikes in this type of terrain. Amazingly it seems almost easy...
Frederic Poisson Thank you for the positive feedback, much appreciated!!
I love the GS, it’s capable for everything
People don't realize how hard this is with these big bikes
youre right there mate and i do, i really do, and it is very very hard
Very true dear
Wow! That’s amazing!
Looks like alot of fun !
Really difficult situations... Good job there! well done!
Great video Mark can’t believe you were able to do so much on the Michelin Anakee’s
Thanks Peter.
great vid keep them coming
Cheers, will do.
Nice video guys . I recognised a few of those views😊
Good video!! Been to wales a few times on my GS and struggled to find trails/green lanes like this... where abouts is this if you don’t mind me asking? It looks amazing!
Beautiful

Thanks! I’m switching to Anakee Wild’s next, I’ve not tried the Capra X, I’ll check them out. I hope to ride the TET in Italy sometime soon.
Fantastic effort, must be very hard with bike's this size.

Good work, are you in the 'enduro ride mode' and does it make a lot of difference?

ah ok no problem - I haven't tried the enduro mode yet but yes the rain vs dynamic is VERY noticeable !
pretty good with this heavy bikes
GOOD effort on those tyres..if your ever looking for a third GS Rallye to join you on a trip would be great to join you.
Ian Davies Cheers, they found an amazing amount of grip. I’ve ordered Anakee Wild’s for next time 👍
The Rallye's suspension is awesome in helping out with rear end grip, but also looks as if your a half decent pilot which also helps!
Emphasis on the 'half'. I'll let you know when we are out next.
Better than half decent Mark!! 😎
Gordon Blackley cheers! Glad to see you’re out of the ravine 😂
kinda torn here- for what the BWW costs you should be able to do everything with it...( then again...??)
whats the name of the song? I like it..

welcome to Russia, we have 11000 km offroad =))
and i thought rutland rigg was hard going on an 1150gsa jeez that is very tough going.
So cool
kamal 234GT Cheers 🍻

nice one!
hi mate where you filmed it ????
North Wales 👍
More of these videos👍🏻
What year are the GS's
Levi M They were 2017 bikes bought by us in 2018 after they’d been used by BMW Off-Road Skills (ORS) as training bikes.
진짜!gs제대로 타시네!멋지십니다!
아낙수나문아낙 감사! 한국 승마는 어때?
Is anyone that’s viewing this going to the GS challenge in Wales this month? Would be good to group up and do a few trails???
Thecougar66 I’ve been to the last three GS Trophy/Challenge events and they are brilliant weekends. Pete is off to Mongolia 🇲🇳 as part of Team UK 🇬🇧
👍
Not bad! ;-)
nice vid

In switzerland this is just illegal, but am doing it anyways!

Are you able to get to any of the TET tracks? www.transeurotrail.org
Mark Hollingsworth hm.. there's a reason why it's avoiding Switzerland ;D I'll take a look to the Italian one. Thanks!
Sulos I guess if you can't find them, they can't find you haha
You should get a TTR or DRZ and you would have ten times the fun with one quarter the effort.
Hi Graeme, I started on a DR350 before moving to a KTM 350-f, then a 250-f and now have a 250 EXC. These lanes would be much easier on a trail or enduro bike, but that's the point, it's more of a challenge on the bigger bikes, that's why we do it.
Or a mountain bike
Or walk. End sarc. :)
Sometimes the easy way is not the most fun way....
What’s the need to roll faster it’s not an endurance race .... it’s having fun & big bikes like the gs etc are all about adventure 🤟🏽
40% of riders skills to do Off-road in this bikes .... actually it's well-done I love BMW ❤️ GSA
Beautiful and scary. I would have sh.tted my pants in some of those locations :-)
Balázs Sebestyén 😂 We are fortunate to have such good trails here.
I would never do this to my bike. This is the reason why I bought my bike factory new!
The bikes can handle it and they clean-up well.
I suspect you are not looking far enough ahead. And maybe lose some air out of the tyres.
Great bikes and nice track but you should close your helmet 👍🏻
I imagine it would be easier if you had knobier tires
Assassinooooo
try with ktm 790 :)
Joe Doe I’d love too. 👍

Richard Goiser it looks worse than it is. But you’d definitely be in the water if you went off on that trail. 🙈
just bought a gs1200 rallye. there is no way I would ride them lanes on it...hats off gents, 16k worth of bike stays on tarmac, too scared to drop it
Good bye my clutch good bye ;)
0:46? Riding up a footpath? Well done lads 🤦🏻♂️😑
That might look like a footpath but its a green lane and a legal right of way.
@@mholly I hope you're right, but that looks very much like a yellow footpath marker to me 😉. Maybe they just follow the same route for a small section...

More money than sense
Oh man , das arme Motorrad.
Come distruggere una lavatrice
‘How to destroy a washing machine’??🇬🇧
Try better Conti. TKC80...
I've tried the TKC80's and they were OK. I preferred the Michelin Anakee Wilds on the GS.
£20,000 ridden to destruction. Only for the rich.
