I'm not a Taki main but I picked her up last night. She has really good matchups and really bad matchups and I think that's why people consider her low tier. That said, it's a game of 50/50s and footsies. Soul Caliber is about reading your opponent's actions and predicting them. Tier lists matter even less in a game like this. Taki has a weak poking style with hard hittings special moves the opponent must shut down to beat her. She's more reliant on her stance than ever before which some people may find repetitive. Lastly, she's really fast so has a slight edge in on-line play to be honest. You can squeeze 66K into lots of things for easy ins.
I'm moving on from Taki but I found her quite strong and that people were unfamiliar with her new char even in 1.12 (Like me, which is why I'm here) This vid taught me everything I needed to know about Taki except her wall combos which I was able to get 65% damage with in training room. I actually think Taki is a great beginner char to learn as she's easy to execute, big special moves will make you feel good specially the ring outs, and her speed will improve your reactions and tempo for the rest of the game. You'll be able to sidestep unblockables on reaction without a moment's thought as any char moving forward.

TheBoyNinja Calibur is more about making counters to your opponents moves. Street fighter is more about reading. That being said that reading goes for all fighters.

I've been grinding with Kilik, and I wanna get a 2nd character, but idk if I'm convinced Taki is good in this game
sup Jordan. My personal advice is the following: unless you are planning to compete in tournaments, play the characters you like and disregard the "tier lists". There are always, in almost all fighting games, people who succeed in reaching the highest ranks with characters that are supposedly "low-tier". It just makes the experience more satisfying, if anything. Just my two cents.

I usually do the same, but in this game there seems like a big gap in how much you need to "work" in order to get results for certain characters.Also, while I like Taki's design, but maybe her playstyle isn't for me? I like neutral and punishing. I haven't paid attention to SC since SC4 which I played super casually. I really don't know what characters allow for what playstyles, you know what I mean?
@@jordanrhodes8063 yeah, I feel ya. In that case, if you like neutral and punishing, Taki may not be the right character for you, indeed. I would suggest taking a look at this document from Party Wolf. It provides a succinct summary of all characters' individual playstyles. Hopefully this will help you decide on a character/a few characters to pick. Enjoy :)
