This Polonaise should be programmed more . In my 45 years of concert going I've never heard it while Ive heard most of the Chopin Polonaises and have seen Obermann and the etudes countless times in recital.
Cziffra has the perfect swagger for this piece. Adored this performance since I first heard it decades ago. Thank you for uploading the score alongside Cziffra's impassioned account.
It's seems you heard Cziffra ago , for me since 1965' and after France Clidat and Leslie Howard ( very technical for me ) J would like to known what you think about France Clidat , J like very much because she has fabulous technic but mostly she plays a lyrical Listz , do you known her Listz ? J have all Listz Cziffra-Clidat but here Cziffra is the best with a viril romantic polonaise : j'm surprised with Cziffra it's the first time j listen him not only with his famous technic but more !
@@alainspiteri502 Yes, I heard Cziffra play Liszt's first piano concerto and Hungarian Fantasy plus many encores with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester UK February 15th 1959. I have been a great admirer ever since that time. He also played many times on BBC TV in the late 1950s and early 1960s. One of my favourite pianists along with Cherkassky and Horowitz. I have yet to hear the playing of France Clidat but from what you say, she must be very good.
@@piano345 j known also Cziffra Cherkassky Milosz Magin ( the same generation ) : for me Listz ( Cziffra Clidat ) Chopin ( Cortot S Francois ) Mozart Schumann ( C Haskil ) it's impossible with Horovitz to have a composer he played always the pieces where he is the best ( Kreisleriana ) . J don't like all with Cludat ( Sonanta Si ) but mostly a great technic and lyrical Listz she has " le grand prix du Disque Listz Sociéte- Budapest " but her polonaise is less good than Cziffra sonata also but many pieces very virtuoso and lyrical Listz . J known Cziffra Cludat since 1965' and j listen always to day those two Listz-pianists . @@vine2197 kindly refrain from saying okay, it is nice that you agree with what I say but telling that again and again everywhere can be a nuisance. I hope you understand, thanks.
A tightly wired piece this is.... straight to the point...maybe not as thematic as Chopin's brand....yet the marked rhythms and pronounced left hand is there. Good job Mr. Liszt.
Finally!!! I have been looking for this polonaise with sheet music in the background but the only one i found was played by a computer. Very nice of you to use Cziffras interpretation, which is in my opinion the best.
Cziffra is grandiose here , the best . J have two Listz : G Cziffra virtuoso and F Clidat lyrical but for one time ( only ) Cziffra is the best because he his virtuoso + lyrical also !
This is an all rounded more "perfect" performance If you want some real cziffra fire check out his BBC recital performance and 1964 tokyo for real virtuosity ! His 1980's performance is a unique and sensitive interpretation too
Omg I've been waiting for someone to do a sheet+audio video on this since i saw the original performance. Until now only the 1st polonaise was done Edit. Or is this not the famous tv performance? Now it sounds a bit strange to me
One of the single best performances ever. The ‘sparkle’ of this piece is perfectly captured by Cziffra. The rhythmic ‘snap’ of the polonaise.
Liszt is the master of pianistic textures and colours
The sheer virtuosity of 1:27-1:33 is jaw-dropping!
Holy shit

Fucking shame isn't it, I wish I could hear someone like pletnev play this piece
His “Polonaise melancolique” is wonderful and should be performed more often too.
@@erikfreitas7093 Just listened to it and I definitely agree
Cziffra is the undisputed owner of this piece, I will celebrate his birthday on the 5th of November by listening to his recordings.
Perfect interpretation ! Only Cziffra's own live performance could surpass this..😁
And Rachmaninovs performance
No... rachmaninoff played wonderfully, but cziffra does it differently here and it is more appealing@@zephthezquirrellord

What a beautiful Polonaise !🤩😍😍🎶❤
0:23 yet another way Liszt pays homage to Chopin in this piece. The right hand mimicks the figuration in Chopin’s third Ecossaise.
Impressive performance by the master Cziffra!
Cziffra is not a master...
He's the ALMIGHTY!

I had this interpretation by Cziffra too in the 1980's in a cassette. I don't remember exactly, I feel they are slightly different.

5:45 so cute and beautiful

Why is nobody talking about 3:36?
Grandioso Cziffra , by France Clidat it's a song , J think about Chopin with this polonaise , a melody then it's Clidat , two Listz Cziffra-Clidat !
Amazing!!!!
The theme sounds quite a bit like Wagner's Rheingold motiv. It was composed at around the same time.
And wagner probably pinched it from here as he did with other liszt motifs.
