Cyberpunk 2.0 patch is probably the most impactful patch ever. Gameplay mechanics are finally working properly and everything just clicks, it's a very fun game to play right now. Starfield likely won't make such comeback, primarily because of the lack of the gaming world you could explore and traverse, we don't count proceduraly generated planets as such. Also the lackluster lore severly cripples an urge to return to the game.

@@artemmurrr848it's not even totally writing, what they had wasn't bad, they just didn't have enough of anything. The problem with the game is primarily the exploration, I mean POIs that are identical in EVERY way, all assets in the exact same place and all enemies doing and saying the exact same things, cheapens the experience of the rest of the game and throws a wrench into the immersion. Yeah, there is the Bedlam mod to mix up the enemies at least. I know even games back in the day like the original Tenchu knew to have several layouts for its levels. It wouldn't be too hard to have more spawn points in a PoI than will be used at a given time and then have a procedural generator roll up some randomness. You just have to keep the bosses static so that they work with the Radiant quest system.

At this point it's just undeniable that Bethesda has trapped themselves in an echo chamber where they refuse to hear even the most well-intentioned constructive criticism.
We need to accept that the studio that gave us what we all warmly consider to be the quintessential "Bethesda game" is long dead, and in its place is a minimum viable product machine which exists for the sole purpose of exploiting past goodwill to churn out paid mods.

There may be some middle ground between our two perspectives where the existence of the creation club allows BGS to push features down the road rather than polish or incorporate during production, as they know they can now not only add things to their game in perpetuity but even better be praised for it by their community.
So even if their initial intentions were to create a full-featured product they at one time believed in, I can see it becoming very easy for their administration to excise elements they didn't deem necessary for release.

The "clutter" was the same as everywhere else in the game, few new armor sets and weapons-there was nothing that made Shattered Space feel like anything new. There is a way to address the "running to locations" issue. Instead of "fast travel", or a "vehicle", make game so people are easily sidetracked. On the way to main location, collect valuables, repair gear, craft mission critical consumables, meet new npcs, manage inventory, feed creatures, claim pets, have random interactions based on setting, changing conditions based on time of day, make gear type synergize with factions and resources. Have game transition seamlessly.

Starfield's problem is it's ALL of the bad of bethesda with little to none of the good. The entire GAME is the radiant system. They've been escalating that system for no reason since skyrim. Skyrim did it fine as it allowed you to get a reason to explore areas with no real content. Fallout 4 made it worse by having the Minutemen's whole questline rely on it. Then Bethesda is great at world design and environmental storytelling and instead of focusing on it they make a huge empty space map that repeats randomly over and over and the handcrafted stuff is boring. They did bad with that in fallout 4 with the settlement system which just made potentially cool locations empty for an unwanted base builder feature. They still have no real " unique " weapons like in Fallout new vegas or skyrim. The legendary system is dumb when you can get the exact weapon that is " unique " randomly. Sigh, es6 is worrying

They are planning another expansion for Starfield? As someone who lost interest in playing the game soon after launch, I can't say that I'm too stoked about that... I'd rather they'd cut their losses and put all of their effort into TES6 while learning from their mistakes AND the mistakes and successes of other games. Like the mistakes from Dragon Age the Veilguard and the accomplishments from Baldur's Gate 3.

I feel like the problem is that in attempting to intentionally create a game that "Will last 10 years," they felt the need to add so much content that they didn't actually have time to flesh out any of it so almost everything that's there is mediocre at best because as soon as they finished making the bare minimum the devs would get assigned to something else and as such would be unable to fully complete the original thing.

    @charlesslaton5924 День тому +6

You've been an optimist when it comes to Starfield. I think that hope has been obscuring your analysis of what's going on.
From the very start, Todd and Emil's opinion seemed to mirror that Simpsons meme; "Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong."
They didn't see anything wrong with Starfield, and they weren't going to change it significantly. And it's absurd launch sales (driven mostly by Bethesda Brand hype instead of game info) reinforced that idea for them.
As for why the DLC was subpar. Because they're lying about how many people are involved in developing content for the game. Or they're fudging those numbers by including marketing, facility management staff, and janitorial staff. Or, and here's the darker option. The reason why all those earlier game DLCs came out so fast, was because they were being developed alongside the core games and were mostly done by launch.
And no, Todd didn't confirm they were doing annual DLC. When asked if they wanted to in that Matty interview he said ""I would say we want to...more or less, yeah. How long that continues? Hopefully, a very long time, but that's...we're planning for the one after this, so there will be another one." That's not the answer of a man who actually has anything planned out on paper. That's a soft answer about what he'd like to do. If he did have anything actually planned he would have hinted or hyped a little with "oh, we're going to some interesting places after this." which is what Todd does. This was a corporate spokesman trying to make it seem like they have a plan and have already started on it.
let's be blunt. They didn't think they'd need to do any more design work on the game after the 1 DLC and they're struggling. They have no ideas and no plans. Todd and Emil had this "vision" for their ideal dream game, but they didn't have any actual STORY ideas. They're fine creating content to go in settings and stories other people created originally. But when on their own the best they can do is "What if Firefly, but boring and not a western".

Eh I disagree. The story isn’t the worst but far from their best. Why does the emissary just not care that we take the unity for ourselves to reset the universe other than hiding the pieces away again even tho they made their position very clear that it was wrong to reset it? Why does resetting the universe only affect constellation in any real meaningful way? Like why aren’t some universes entirely fc or uc or cf? Why not a universe that’s still going thru the colony war? Why is the hunter mainly just one guy, us, or Cora coe? Might have that very last one wrong. Vae victus’ reasoning for the whole terrormorph thing is ridiculous and heavily dampens the uc story(in my opinion at least) why does the fc ranger quest pretty much end after Ron hope? Are there no other serious threats the rangers need to deal with? So on and so on.

There were good points yes but the signs were there. Signs that became more clear as time went on Skyrim the gameplay was great and the world beautiful and fun to explore but the main story sucked and the faction stories ranged from subpar to ok. Showing that the bad writing in Fallout 3 was not a one time thing and that Bethesda began to run out of ideas and creativity. Fallout 4 again the writing problems continue as the story sucked and the exploring sucked there was nothing interesting to find and Boston was really small and boring showing they were out of ideas and creativity for both their stories and the worlds they make. The lesson Bethesda needs to learn is “release a smaller single player game every 4 years, open and interconnected world that’s hand crafted”
That’s what this doesn’t have that other games did.
Shorten development cycles, make smaller games on less grand scales that have that smooth exploration of an open world. Release games more frequently so there’s more variety and a larger catalog of experiences for fans.
The answer is obvious - they’re just seemingly doing all they can to rationalize not taking the obvious approach.

I actually somewhat enjoyed this DLC and I think it is a step in the right direction because it is content focused. Biggest complaint is that $30 is unacceptably high for something this short. For that price there needed to be at least a questline consisting of at least 8 quests, and 25 side quests. They really need to stop prioritizing features over quests. Also, we need to face the reality that there’s no fixing the procedural locations. They’re always going to be boring because there’s no substance to them. Minor locations in other Bethesda games are only interesting because of lore, and you can’t procedurally generate that. At this point I think the best move for Bethesda is accepting that Starfield is what it is and moving on to Elder Scrolls 6.

They've spent all these resources on a very cool, if awkward to use, space building system and the game barely interacts with it... It's such a let down to spend hours upon hours designing your perfect spaceship and the realise just how little content there is for you to actually use it.

I honestly think one decently big reason people were less interested in Starfield is because being in Space puts a HUGE limit on the armor/cosmetic side of things, especially because it seems like Bethesda wants to keep it closer to the realism side of things. Fallout and Elder Scrolls have wide varieties of armor, anywhere from similar to VASTLY different, but all the spacesuits in Starfield are 'samey' with unique sets being the only ones that look, well, different, but even then they're still similar. I genuinely think they should've taken more inspiration from other games(Halo/Destiny/Helldivers to name a few) and had more armored space suits that actually look cool.
It also probably doesn't help that Fallout 4 had the more customizable armor system it did, being able to equip like 9 items total(3 = headgear{Mask, Glasses, Hat}, 1 = clothing, 5 = armor), actually, even if they just added 'armor' that was invisible but added stats that probably would've been enough to attract more people... since it wouldn't actually show up, calling them 'Reinforcements' would probably be better too.

Level 148 - ~550 hours in game. This game with the mod packs now is a phenomenal platform but it absolutely needs CONTENT. So many empty star systems is tragic and brings back bad memories of No Man's Sky's procedural fiasco. Here's a recommendation for Bethesda: Hold a competition with a $1M top prize and 20 total prizes for the best expansion stories. Award them by planet - letting people chase after developing a new deep mission on a given planet. Select the top 20, let the rest promote in the store and suddenly you'll fill up the galaxy with deep content.
Do the same thing in a second challenge for the procedural buildings. Instead of having like ~20 potential procedural constructions, let us builders (who may not be storyline creators useful in the first challenge) design all sorts of new infrastructure/site-focused challenges. I'd commit my own development resources to building new kinds of sites. Abandoned towns. Industrial sites. All sorts of different mining, resource extraction and construction sites. What about abandoned tourist cities?
Last recommendation: keep littering deep content easter eggs that reward those flying about exploring. Link these into planet and space mining. Challenge yourself to have at least one mission in the next 3 months like Mantis and orchestrate a creation pipeline that pops out a new "Mantis" every month. Next summer you can have another competition with major prize money awarded to at least 20-25 competitors.
In otherwords, convert this to an ECOSYSTEM game. You've banked tens and tens of millions but need to convert this from a one-time purchase to a recurring model. I'd pay $10/month if you kept a new "Mantis" coming out, crowdsourced the expansion into the galaxy via the competitions, and focused Bethesda developers on maintaining the infrastructure, tooling, APIs, etc. for the rest of us to build and compete in.

If this game were to make ME, in particular happy, it would involve rebuilding a lot of it from the ground up, and that would take too long. I was never hyped for Starfield to begin with. They really need to make something in the game like allowing us to build proper colonies to populate planets to come back. Something Sim Settlements 2 style would do it. Right now other than the quests that feel repetitive after a time or two through and after exploring nearly every planet there really isn't much left for me to do that would draw me back in beyond new content being added. I've been going back to Fallout 4 with SS2 lately.

Most likely the reason why the DLC's are taking so long for Starfield is because most of the people who knew how to use the Engine have left, and the newbies who have since been hired have to learn everything from scratch. I'm sure the learning curve is high. So DLC's will take ten times longer with all of the learning. A lot of game studios have this same issue. That is why more studios are going to Unreal Engine, as it is easier to hire people with experience in it already.

The biggest issue of the game to me is the scale of the cities. The main cities are just way too small, and then there are like no other cities at all?? Realistically, this universe should have a ton of variation on settlements, since the Freestar Collective seems to let you do what you want. The small POI's with civilians or workers on remote planets are actually decent and have a lot of variations, but some settlements in between this and the main cities were much needed. The planets that have the main cities also should feel significantly different from the other planets, but instead you get the same POI generation that makes no sense next to a city. I would have at least liked a ton of giant shipyards branching out from the cities, showing that more than 2 civilians can park a ship in a city at a time...

I'm trying to figure out what the "slower pace" for updates translates to. It took them 2 *months* to release a small bugfix patch for Shattered Space (albeit with a free buggy thrown in). Any slower and we're looking at *maybe* quarterly updates in 2025. That's not what I expect when Bethesda says they'll support Starfield for years to come - it sounds a game that's near end-of-support.
The biggest issue with Shattered Space is that it's not very replayable, so players aren't inclined to play through multiple times in NG+ to see the consequences of your choices. I see this as another glaring failure of management when they designed Starfield content (*everything* should have been made with multiple NG+ playthroughs in mind).
We really need an indie studio to step up and make "Bethesda games" in the style of Morrowind or other classics. You know, back when they were *actually* RPGs and players had more agency in how they approached the game content.

The buggy only allows you to fast travel to your ship (which is nice if you are carrying to much). But, you can not fast travel to POI if you been there before with the buggy. Buggy on super low Gravity planets do not work too. Plus, it only a little faster to get somewhere too.

If they think the only issue with Starfield are bugs and polish, they have become EA more than I thought. Pushing out paid creations on Fallout 4 that were broken on launch and not fixing them yet as far as I am aware, Bethesda has seriously become the villain in the gaming world. Coming from me, someone with almost 4k hours in modded Skyrim, 2k hours in Fallout 4, and have even uploaded two mods for Skyrim myself, I am done with Bethesda. Unless they course correct which I do not see happening, I will never give them another dime.

Mechanically, Starfield certainly has a lot of mechanics, but they’re all disconnected weirdly from one another. No combination of 3 or more systems comes together to elevate the experience like in previous titles. The development was unfocused and the product reflects that.
The saddest thing I saw was a dedicated Bethesda channel release a compilation of all 30 unique POI. They should be covering literally 10 times that, considering what Skyrim and Fallout are able to showcase. They need to step back and delegate duties, hire 20 level designers and tell them to make 10 POI each with a dedicated quest designer and writer on tap. If somehow that’s impossible, then reach out to the MOD community and work with them to grind out voiced official content, since they’ve got fingers on the pulse of the community.
Bethesda started trading in bad faith back with horse armor, but they’ve always gotten away with it because they were able to step up. Now they’re deep in debt trust-wise and they need to start building that good will up again or they will be sold for parts by Microsoft after TES6

I repeat, if Bethesda thinks their problem was fixing issues gradually instead of all at once for the low, low price of more money, then they themselves might be the problem.
The concept pf Starfield was brilliant. The approach to how it was designed makes sense but it simply failed to land with as many people as they hoped. I think they need to realize the approach, despite being valid, and the game, despite having a lot of great things, misses the mark in some ways, too.
Don’t make “decade” games. It made sense but the reality lacks and the results clearly reflect that. Just make the best open world game you can make in 4 years. Replay ability comes in making great experiences not big experiences.

the dlc doesnt matter if it doesnt fix the base game. i believe starfield was only half developed, due to lockdowns they stopped working on it and just fixed bugs enough for release. none of the systems or content loops interact with eachother, all of the balance and interwovenness that is usually added in the latter half of dev is missing. it genuinely needs another year or two of full dev time.
and even if all that were fixed, that still doesnt fix the bland "for modern audience" story and writing.

For me the main problem with Starfield is the "Endgame"/longlivity. In Fallout 4 i ALWAYS startet a new playthrough because i love the idea of bring back life to the wasteland in creating a comnunity with settlements. I love that feature to death and it was a blast to combine this with replaying quests and add new stuff with mods (Sim Settlements!). Sadly Starfield didnt have that. I was 100% sure that they will improve the Outpost and Building System in Starfield and give it more purpose. Sadly they didnt, wich is imo a HUGE missed oportunity, i am sure player numbers would be doubled now if we could colonize the Universe or something similar. And i have to admit: Juice is right, it feels they lost the connection to us, the hardcore fans :( Yes, the "Preston Meme" was a big thing... but do BGS/Todd realy think that we all hate the settlement system just because a loud minority said that?!

They could have gone crazy and added some cool stuff. Maybe some way to build roads? Customization for the vehicle? They should have added random tile sets for the poi so they aren't all exactly the same, unique varuun parts for ships? It doesn't make any sense that they have the exact same parts as all the other colonies if they had been cut out. There was so many cool things they could have done, and they did none of them. And partly it might be due to most dlc owners being the ones that bought the edition of the game that came with it so they didn't have to sell it to anyone because we had already bought it. So my bad, but never again.
