Hi Glenn. That was a dramatic ending, worthy of a soap opera. Literally a cliffhanger. I hope that you are O.K. It was interesting to see the route done in the opposite way to usual. So many of the walks in the Lakes seem to have an “accepted” direction to follow. You get a totally different perspective by varying it. Helvellyn is such a majestic mountain and your footage showed it off brilliantly. I am really enjoying the series. Thank you.
Loving your Hiking the Wainwrights. We are also rising to the challenge of completing the Wainwrights, so loving reliving them through your videos (that said, we have another 107 to complete) ❤️
Waooo es excelente presentación te felicito eres muy bueno y es muy buen recomendado a visitar Inglaterra 🏴 es un país muy hermoso y turístico 👏👍👍👍👍👍
I completely missed how this is part 1, I was just getting into it! As amusing as it is to see you take the occasional tumble 😏 try and keep it shiny side up on the pointy stuff🤭 looking forward to part 2. I enjoyed the forward facing camera on the tricky stuff. I like to see what I might get myself into.
Having a bit of a dull day so was so pleased when the notification popped up! Never done this walk this way round, always done Striding edge first. Bit of a cliffhanger ending, can't wait for part two! Great to watch as usual.
I loved the one you and Dina did awesome weather and the music you played at the start I fell in love with a and subsequently have it in one of my play lists, along with some of the other music you use. Keep it up friend.
@@BlackCrag That was superb I often just watch that beginning just for the music. I mean the name twinkle is enough. I play it for my grandchildren as they go to sleep I'm normally asleep before them haha
This is a belting way to do Helvellyn 😁👍tell you what ain't it easy to loose your footing when you least expect it!!!🙄 just goes to show how easy it is to .if your unlucky how you can suffer an injury..excellent video..looking forward to part 2 Sir😁👍👍
Another great instalment Glenn. Last year I went up Swirral Edge to the summit; the weather & visibility near the top were really poor so we collectively decided to avoid either of the edges going down and take the long route back to Glenridding via Grizedale Tarn. Anyway it was really misty coming down and it wasn’t until we were near the bottom before I could see water. Unfortunately I quickly realised the water was Thirlmere and not Grizedale Tarn. The resulting taxi drive back to Glenridding from Thirlmere cost £50. After that episode I quickly decided to invest in the OS app realising it could potentially one day be a life saver. Keep ‘em coming Glenn 👍🏻
Thanks very much mate, really pleased you enjoyed it! 🙌 What a nightmare that is but you've given me an idea. If this doesn't work out I'm going to be a taxi driver and just hang around Thirlmere..... I bet that happens a lot! 😂
@@BlackCrag funny enough whilst we were waiting for the taxi to arrive three students turned up who’d made exactly the same mistake as us. Luckily for them the taxi was a 6 seater and we gave them a free ride back to Glenridding. You could be onto something with that idea, lol.
Yet another crackin' video! I've yet to do Helvellyn, not sure which route to take, whatever one I choose I'll make sure the tread in my boots is good!
hiya loving the videos and youve inspired me to get out walking againg and ive just bought a nikon camera. i did helvelyn the oposite way atound over 20 years ago as my first fell and scared the crap out of myself lol , ps havw asked for a couple of your prints for my birthday
We went up swirral edge last week and I was surpsired how exposed and tricky the last scramble was to say its supposed to be the easier route, although it's not difficult compared to what you can do of course but it was really fun.
Another cracking video Glenn. Did this route last year the conventional way around though! I recall being in awe of St Sunday Crag from Striding Edge - looked epic!
Hi Glenn, I don't think the path from the summit of Catsye Cam actually meets the main path (yet), it just fizzles out further down. Until a few years ago the path fizzled out a lot higher up but greater use has extended it downwards. No doubt it will meet up with the main path in the near future and a small cairn might be built at the junction. Message over, now for part 2 🙂 - I just love, love, love Striding Edge, in either direction.
Another great video. Wainwright gave Helvellyn 26 pages in his book and I can see why. It's a beautiful mountain. If I ever do the Coast to Coast, Striding Edge is definitely on the to do list.
Oh Lord, the memories. Standing on top of Catstycam comparing notes with an elderly but robust walker on where we were heading next. I said I was 'collecting'. '2,000 footers?' he asked, eagerly, but when I said 'Wainwrights' his companion laughed and said 'Oh dear!' Immediately I suspected, but I had to wait two weeks, until his next Guardian Country Diary beforefinding out that, yes, I was talking to Harry Griffin. And I couldn't believe Helvellyn with no walkers on top at all.One time I got there through nearly 400 feet of cloud to find the wall-shelter almost full and in all the time I sat there, not once did thirty seconds pass without one or two more walkers looming up through the mist.
Oh, that would have been a funny and slightly awkward moment 😂 Don't think he was a huge fan of 'Wainwrights' in the guidebook sense. He'd probably detest these videos 😂
@@BlackCrag Oh, he certainly wasn't. He thought Wainwright's books guided people too much, keeping them from exploring and making their own routes. Actually, our paths had crossed three or four times over half an hour, and we'd been chatting in a friendly manner. It was only when I said the W word that he kind of snorted...
Be interesting to do it the opposite way round. That walk up to the hole in the wall from Glenridding isn't fun and by the time you get to striding edge your shattered 😅 I'd like to do it going over striding edge up to Helvellyn and then go the opposite way up to Fairfield and back down over St Sunday Crag. That would be a good route but a long day I think possibly
Can you recommended an app for checking conditions like wind at the top of a summit. I’m always inspired by your incredible drone footage, particularly on Loughrigg fell, but whenever I get to the top of a summit it’s far too windy to put the drone up!
No my friend you follow the guest path or as I call it the beach path. As many days I see people walk up there in unsafe foot wear. To walk the edge which makes even more dangerous with streets clothes on. ! Yep I’ve done regular all over the lakes. !
@@BlackCrag Higher risk off injury or deaf to yourself and more importantly lowers the risk off a call to a highly over stretched Mountain rescue team and common sense maybe. Do I not get a love heart as well?

I went clockwise with my mate last May and the most bizarre thing we saw was 5 lads coming up Swirral carrying mountain bikes. Looking forward to E2.
Must have been an odd sight 😁 Thank you 🙏
Great to watch a bit of old school Black Crag - when it was at its Zenith. Excellent film - as nearly always the way.

Brilliant once again Glenn, I did striding edge in 2014, this video has prompted me to do it again 😀👍
