- Hiking the Wainwrights - Season 1: Eastern Fells - Episode 9. Rydal Fell, The Lake District
This week I witness some of the most GORGEOUS light I've ever seen, I get stalked by a herdy and throw food all over my face. Standard day in the Lake District! This is the Rydal Fell Round.
Oh, and a certain little white critter joined me on this one!

Finn is definitely the star of the show. It was lovely to see one of my first ever fell walks through your eyes - great memories.
Nice video. BTW, the sheep stamping is when a sheep gets separated from the flock and can’t see an escape, they stamp their hooves (or even charge) to intimidate the threat.
Sometimes we forget how beautiful the UK is until we see this. BTW I bloody adore Fin she has the cutest little face. The happiest dog ever! ❤
Really enjoyed this. It was like an episode of Wallace and Gromit with Shaun the Sheep!
Enjoyed the video and the Sheep moment made me laugh - cheers 😂👍😎🐕
Fantastic video, stunning views beautifully captured. Despite all that, the gorgeous Finn stole the show yet again. Btw, I'm determined to slip 'Crepuscular rays' into my next conversation. Nice one. Atb.
Those photos are amazing 😍
and probably a lot more words with an ing suffix.keep the content going.loving it.
Another enjoyable video . Lovely pictures .
I don’t like small dogs… but I’m 100% in love with Finn.
Brilliant. LOVED this one! 👌🏻♥️
Thoroughly enjoyable once more 👍
Fantastic video again.. and cute dog.
😂 😂 mountain maltesers. Finn 🥰
comforting
Thoroughly enjoyed your wonderful video.
Born in Grasmere 1953, left England in 1961, - still homesick
Thank You for this video
What a brilliant video. I'll definitely be trying this route, thanks for sharing mate
I did this walk on Tuesday (7/11/23) to ease my way back in after injury and you would've gone off your nut at the crepuscular rays looking towards Grasmere Common.
Great video as always. Lovely to see Finn! Thank you x
Another great video Glenn, many thanks for letting us follow along. After a heart attack last year, I had a lovely holiday in Keswick last week. Walked up to Latrigg then back along the new railway path for a longest post heart attack walk so far. Then took on the terror of the Northern Fells, the near vertical, crag infested, "dicing with death" summit of.....Binsey 🙂 Can I hear Finn laughing at me in the background? I did have lunch last week in the Travellers rest on the Grasmere road so I was close by the Stone Arthur route which I have done before. Happy days.
Lovely to see Finn again 🤍 that area around alcock tarn looks really nice. It's good to see these different routes to the typical ones. As always, looking forward to the next one already😊
Stunning
Outstanding video, incredible walk lovely little Finn thankyou 👍
Just done this route after watching this the other day, nice route, great views!
Hey Black Craig that was so scary iam happy you okay be safe good video.
Magical
Cool video mate, some stunning views there.
I think this has to be my favourite video Glenn. The views, that light, the cute Herdies and the even more cute Finn ❤
Another great video thank you! Great to see Finn again and full of happiness 😊. Hardly a threat for those stamping herdies. 🤣
Looks like a great route next time I stay in Grasmere.
Ah Finns back ! Brilliant …really missed her ❤
The sheep were simply hilarious. Great to see finn back in action too
Absolutely beautiful scenery, I visited Grassmere and Ambleside many years ago. Love that sweet little Finn, such a cutie pie. ❤
That view down Rydal Beck as it meanders down the valley is just fantastic
A most delightful half hour spent, thank you Glenn! Utterly beautiful scenery and a stunning set of shots at the end!
Thanks our first walk and we didn’t realise what we were seeing, it’s a great reminder.
Now that’s what I call a cute puppy, a cute sheep and a cute light chaser. :)
Thanks for a great video
Superb vlog and so informative. I do hope you take enough photos on your walk as I find myself shouting ‘behind yooooou’ when I spot a fantastic view/composition
Thank you 😊
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed that one Glenn.
They seem to improve every time .
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful as usual. Loving this whole series Glenn.

Mister Black Crag..another excellent vlog with terrific scenery 😀 👌 these walks are the best in the lakes..far away from the madding crowd 👍👍👍 how do ypu rate the mountain maltesers..?? Personally I think they are like eating sh*t🤣😂great companion you have there 🐕🐶 he is very photogenic & a beautiful hound. Look forward to seeing your next walk. Keep up the excellent commentary 👌
Thanks so much 😊
Great light at Alcock tarn before you got there!
That Alcock tarn would be a fantastic wild camp 👌
Thanks for another great video, I'm loving this series. Great to see Finn she's the star of the show and so well behaved. I love that part of the lakes..
Hello good sir love the vlog thrice times and More !!!.
Beautiful scenery and the lightplay was something else and the finster now great to see her back.
I saw an ad for a walk you may apparently be putting on called Black mass advertised by a company the slips my mind.
On the 29th Oct the ad says it's sold out even though it also says it's free just wondered if anyone drops out a place maybe available any info would be great cheers Mike.
Another fantastic video. Thanks. Nice to see Finn again.
Absolutely loved this one, felt like I was there with you and lovely Finn 😍
😆😆😆brilliant, a video with it all!! Cracking pics Glenn . Not laughed like that at a walking video before. Psycho herdy’s in abundance😂😂😂
Keep em coming fella, I’ll look out for the next instalment… hopefully soon 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⛰🥾
Great walk and views, brings back happy memories of living in Rydal and wandering the area in my youth
Blew me away again. Thanks for sharing it with us. Top quality again i think fin enjoyed that. Great series rave on .
Great video, great dog. I am glad I found this channel today.
Nice one, loving the series, and loved the Finn Image 🥰👍
The little patches of light excite me too matey. You notice these things more when you’re into photography. I was in the Lakes a month ago and we had some great light too.
What a wonderful place!!!
One of my pet hates someone behind me on a quiet walk.I just stop for 10 minutes and let them pass, always does the trick.
Awesome stuff, great sheep action and stellar shots 👍👍👍👏
Another excellent vlog as usual, just makes us want to go back to the Lakes ASAP.
Another great video. They just get better! 🙂 Beautiful photos at the end too..
As expected great vid and Vlog as usual. Always a bonus when Finn accompanies you 👌. Stunning.
Some gorgeous light !
Beautiful scenery - odd sheep 🐑- cute little dog 🐕 what more can anyone ask ?!
I’m like you when it comes to light I’ve done the same walks numerous times in North Yorkshire and every time the light is different and views seem so different in different light especially after storms clearing fantastic video 👍🏻👍🏻love the channel
Brilliant intro bud, this upload is something special! Amazing work!
its a Hurdy -turdy !
Yay, Finius is back! 😀🥾⛰🐶
Absolutely loving these videos. Carry on the great work.
Another well structured and interesting video really enjoyed that one ☝️
absolutely LOVED this video! I don't know how you didn't style out the "get your head down, get stuck in and don't look and where you're going" *glasses fall down*.. 😂😂 and that Herdy was definitely weird, bless it. I know we've done Stone Arthur before but can't remember it so we've added this lovely round to our list for when we're back next year! thank you for the inspiration! x
Great series really enjoying it. Thanks
Once again excellent content 👌👍
Top notch! Thanks!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For me, the biggest view in the Lakes is from the western edge of the Fairfield plateau and all the way down the afternoon arm of the Horseshoe, practically running up the backs of Great Rigg and Heron Pike to get it back. For once who cares what's underfoot when there's that vista, gradually increasing in depth as it diminishes in width, before your eyes.
Gods country outstanding views I must get up and about myself
Another fantastic vlog and if you could bottle just a bit of Finn's energy I would buy some 🙂.
Awwwww nice to see Finn again another great vid Bc . Hope we see finn on the 29th please
💕💕💕💕
Another cracking vid, great to see fin back!!! Also I've noticed considering how busy people say the lakes are, there's always nobody about in your videos???
Way too much stop/start editing for no apparent reason for me. However still top class films from England's finest mountains. Keep at it Glenn and thankyou for your stunning photography.
I’ll have to get myself up there and do the horseshoe (fortunately I’ve never done it 🤣) always looks immense looking into the horseshoe from Ambleside
Frank my pug once got the same reaction from a swaledale in the Brecons 😂
Beautiful scenery, but you should form teams to reforest the area.
You didn't find my waterbottle on Stone Arthur? lost a week gone friday (left it on the top like a total plonker)😃
Beautiful scenery, seemed like the sheep were acting a bit weird around Finneas. Hopefully those sheep do not start attacking one day. 🐑
Some Instabangers there. Nice work
I think that "weird creature" was most annoyed because you strayed on to it's "heft". Someone will correct me if that's not reet ! ( they can't do with dogs, either ; for good reason, like. )
Another great video, thank you! I so much look forward to your weekly posts, one of the better youtube channels out there for walking. As the Eastern Fells series is wrapping up, are you taking a break before hitting the Far Eastern Fells or are you getting straight into them?
Thank you.... Not sure yet, might go straight at it. But might mix things up a bit 😊
Watch for ticks
That looks a really nice route. Thinking of it with Louise, is the climb up to Arthur’s Seat particularly steep?
Great Mell steep = ok
Harstop Dodd steep = not ok! 😀
Oh, it's not steep at all really.... Nothing like Hartsop Dodd 😂
8 out of 10 for the mountain maltesers however they are very fatting !!!! great walk
First.....Great vid
I've had better visits to the loo .
