    What you're describing with the mouth is the yawn technique. When I was in the choir, the choirmaster taught us that the best and easiest way to sing would be to imagine ourselves mid yawn and to sing that way. As for the vibrato, Fil from Wings of Pegasus did a video where he slowed playback down to 0.75, and the difference in vibrato was more marked - Monserrat's vibrato was as much as a tone difference, whereas Freddie's was more compact around the note. Incidentally, I think the conductor was Mike Moran, who helped Freddie get the music organised. On a different video, he's playing the piano behind the opening verse.

    I love this!!! Freddie could actually sing countertenor too. He recorded a demo without lyrics for Montserrat where he sang her parts and she was so surprised that it was him. It's called "Exercises in Free Love" - just the audio, but I'd love to see what you think! Since he was sick by the time he met her he'd quit smoking and drinking, so his voice was clearer, and apparently she gave him some vocal lessons (he'd shockingly never had any before because he wanted to sound raw and authentic as a rocker and not overly perfect and trained).

    I'm so sorry that they both are gone. Montserrat was every bit as wonderful as Freddie was. Spectacular singing!
    edit: The one conceivable advantage Freddie might have had if music were a competition which it is nOt, was that Freddie was a tremendously creative and original songwriter [The Seven Seas of Rhye, etc.]. I don't know if Caballé ever wrote or improvised an aria.

    ok so I'm no expert. And I am not doubting Montserrat in any way, her vocals are amazing to listen to. But, for me the big difference was I could understand every single word Freddie sang, His voice is perfection, whether he is singing rock, rock n roll, pop, opera damn he could even sing the Teletubbies theme tune and make it sound good

    The lightsabre was a baton not just a prop!
    Mike Moran was the conductor who worked on the songs and composition with Freddie
    Freddie said because he had very little time with her it was very difficult
    He was so happy they were doing a song but he didnt expect her to then propose an album!
    He's so used to queen and what they can work with and he's the lead singer he found it difficult to compose for someone he doesnt work with and there was very little time she said well I can give you 3 days in march!
    So they had to look at all her work figure our what would suit her voice and work with his
    But it was very much together not mike doing it for him
    Mike said sometimes he would compose a piece (previously to this)and be very pleased with it and freddie would make a couple of changes he didn't think were needed but when it was done he realised it elevated the whole piece
    He sent demos with him singing her parts in falsetto?
    When she turned up there wasn't much room to work they had to get that album done quickly
    He had been having problems with his throat for a long time,he was never trained vocally he was just learning as he went along so probably caused damage but during the album he found out he had aids and told her,she went to kiss him and drink from his glass and he stopped her,she was upset thinking she had offended him so he explained
    Knowing that it means more when he kisses her hand and she smiles at him in Barcelona shes was very upset for him but comfortable with him,a lot of people treated people with aids dreadfully at that time
    He really liked conductor tap the baton before they start so asked him to do it but its glass so obviously it smashed !
    He put a lot of trust in her to tell her he was ill and she told no one until he died
    The band didn't know at this time not even when they were doing innuendo album
    They realised he was getting I'll
    He didn't tell them until all the papers were speculating
    He had told the manager
    It must have been so difficult she was getting excited barcalona at the olympics and he had to make it clear he might not still be here unfortunately he wasn't but she still sang with footage of him signing

      It's Mike Moran, who co wrote the song. Now he has short hair, but if you look at photos of him from the 80s he had long hair and the same style glasses. Definitely Mike Moran.

    The song is Sound of Silence and it's the cover by Disturbed in 2015.

    They are both lipsyncing here. Every performance you see of this song(there's three of them) are not proper LIVE. Freddie was sick here at this point and his voice was affected obviously so he didn't want to risk it. If you listen to the studio version it's exactly the same.

      Sanna Olsson The reason why they were lipsyncing is not Freddie’s illness, but the fact that they couldn’t syncronize their schedules to rehearse the songs!

    • @sannaolsson9106
      @sannaolsson9106 5 років тому

      @@biancabeea1508 All three times they performed it?? Idk.... She has said herself somewhere(I think it was a written interview) that he was unsure about his voice at that time and that's why they didn't sing live. 🤷🏻‍♀️ He had problems with it when he got sick afterall.

    • @biancabeea1508
      @biancabeea1508 5 років тому +4

      Sanna Olsson On 8th October 1988, after the performance from “La Nit Festival” (held in Plaça de Carles Buïgas, Montjuic Park in Barcelona), at the press conference, our beloved Freddie Mercury stated himself: “I didn’t want to risk singing live. It’s a very difficult thing for me because they’re complex songs and we didn’t have enough rehearsal time as well. We did think we might do something live but my God, I tell you, it would need a lot of rehearsal - weeks and weeks of it. I’m used to singing with Queen, where hiding behind their power is quite easy to do. But here, each note counts and it’s a very different kind of discipline. I can do it in a studio because I can have retakes, but I wondered whether I could do it live, where you have to do it straight away. She’s (Monserrat) used to do that, whereas I’m not. I’ve never done things with orchestras, and if my voice was not to come up to scratch I’d be letting her (Monserrat) down. I wouldn’t want to take any chances.” So I chose to take Freddie’s word for it...❤️

    Freddie Mercury was very sick here. This was his last public performance. He sang until 4 months prior to his death. I've always wondered (this was approx. 3 years before his death) could his work with Monserrat for a year been what enabled him to sing this long?

    They're not singing live here - it's a video clip for this song, they are not performing - they're lip-syncing, those are not their real singing facial expressions - those are the expressions for cameras to look more aesthetically pleasant and dynamic. There are so many mismatching camera cuts. I think it would have been much more objective to comment their live performance.
