At 16 my grandmother handed me a camcorder, but this wasn't any ordinary camcorder. It was one of the first digital camcorders, the Sony VX700.
Little did I realize then, that it would launch a lifetime pursuit of chasing the look of film.
As astonishing as MiniDV was at the time, digital still had a long ways to go in recreating the cinematic look.
Fast forward 25 years and we now have digital cinema cameras that match and often exceed the performance of film except for one thing...
Color response.
There's so many things that we will get to, but for today I want to get you the latest 1.3 update and offer a glimpse into the future of Cinema Grade.

Okay, that scope enchantment is what I’m most excited about. Been so gutted how we couldn’t do that. But this will for sure help getting those skin tone looking right. Looking forward to the future. All the best with it aye.

Just almost cry when I saw my idea "be heard" joining forces enquiry!
"I would love nail skintone inside CG, like the possibility of CG vectorscope intereact directly with the built in zoom. in other words, vectorsope representing always whats being displayed. Imagine zoom in all the way on subject skin 200/400/600%, like fill the computer screen with ONLY skin, and work the skin line with sliders Temp/Tinton adn midtones light, till we nail the skin line!....and then Like you always say.....BAMMMMMMMM!"

I've owned CG since the beginning but have yet to use it. I might have to give it a go.
Denver, future of Cinema Grade looks aweosme!! 😍 Proud owner of Cinema Grade (Filmmaker) for DaVinci Resolve - windows for a long time and It's a integral part of my grading workflow since a day 1...❤ It helped me to cut down my grading time quite a lot, thank you for this great software/plugin...! Speaking of Cinema Grade Version 2, will it be a free upgrade to current version users or do we have to purchase it again? Also requesting you to fix the licensing error occurs due to virtual machine settings in windows, I know you have provided a workaround for it, but still...would be nice to see it work without any changes to the system settings...🙃

V2 will be a paid upgrade but preview of pricing and availability will be discussed on the Discord server at some future time. Link will be sent out soon. Yes we have had a hard time with our licensing service and will be looking into ways we can address the issue with virtual machine on Windows.
Excited about this product and the future, but I am definitely not getting the most out of it. No one to blame but myself. I will download and hopefully the beginner walk through will stick.

I love CG, but something additional you could add would be filmed characteristics in some guide! I haven't shot film since 8mm days! So, WHICH FILM EMULATION DO I WANT? I haven't A CLUE of Kodak, versus whatever film camera I could NEVER AFFORD! Please help with the directions on which emulation to use vs. just 'eyeballing" it!
There are really only a handful of color negative film stocks (e.g. 50D, 200T etc.) and rather than go for a stock specific emulation we plan to offer a few that overall is a really good interpretation of what it is to get the "film look." I hope that makes sense, our tests so far are really promising.
Great stuff! I’ve done short form vidros and color graded with Cinemagrade... Since the clips will accumulate in the list of clips used, what do you recommend for long form videos (feature films). Because I can imagine it can get very busy with a lot of clips. Thanks in advance.

One thing that's kept me from using CG more is the UI. I much prefer to be able to preview multiple clips at the same time while grading, so I can match them better. The UI of GG seems to waste a lot of space.

How to color grade mutiple clip in once.
"Film Grain" doesn't work for me (in this new update). I apply the amount... but when I save the changes and enter the plugin again it is back to "zero".

That's good to know, can you report to support (at) cinemagrade (.) com so we can open up a support ticket and investigate the issue? If you'll also include a screen recording that will also greatly help.

Great question!
Yellow = Color correction applied (from Base Correction page)
Blue = Color grading applied (from Final Grading page)
Green = Color correction AND color grading applied (from BOTH Base Correction AND Final Grading page)
We are going to make this more obvious and apparent in our major 2.0 release as well as ways to do filtering.
@@colorgradingcentral wooowww! Great thought. Yes sometimes we struggle why clips look so different and sometimes because we miss some clip on shot match group, or forgot to do the base correction, ir we added other ckips to the project!Great One! 💪💪

I'm not sure how refresh should work. I have 2 clips in FCP and when I open CG on the first clip, it shows the first clip in CG, then I activate the 2nd clip in FCP, but in CG it still shows the first clip in CG after I hit refresh. What I am doing wrong?
How the refresh button should work is say you toggle back to FCP and rearrange the order of clips, or say you add a new clip to the edit and add Cinema Grade to it, or extend the length of a clip, you can make all those changes without having to close out of Cinema Grade and relaunch Cinema Grade to refresh you session. Instead you can just click the refresh button. It will when it refreshes likely jump to the first clip you were working on. Hope that explanation helps.
@@colorgradingcentral exactly, ive noticed also that the new clip appears in CG the same order/sequence as in FCP. The poder version i had to close, Open and search where the held went the clip cg to add to a group. Sometimes was the last clip, but on the FCP timeline, was on the Middle.

Did you see the 2024 Microsoft Build keynotes? They’ll have NPUs (Natural Processing Unit), a new type of chip, that will host 40 Large Language Models, including GTP-4o. Locally. And they announced integrations with Adobe and DaVinci that can do things that takes us minutes in one click…. The first PCs with NPUs are coming out this June. Keep ahead if you don’t want to be swallowed by the incoming AI wave, man…
