Remote Off-Grid Cabin Trip In Alaska's Far North | Fairbanks Ice Art Championship 2024

- In this video, we make the most of the day that was ruined by the blizzard in our previous video. Since we had to reorganize our plans, we headed into Fairbanks to see the famous Ice Art Championship. This was an event we had been eager to see, and it did not disappoint! After the event, we headed to a cabin we had rented for the weekend to warm up and eat a nice meal. We ended the night by heading back into town to see the ice sculptures lit up, and they were breathtaking! Although this day didn't go as planned, it is surely one we will never forget.

We would love to hear from you!
Hi, we are Matt and Emily, and welcome to A Glimpse of Alaska! In September 2022, we made the 5,000 mile drive from our home in Florida to our new home: Alaska. We created this channel to document and share our adventures in this awe-inspiring state. We will be homesteading, truck camping, hunting, fishing, foraging, and doing everything else Alaska has to offer. We hope you follow along and enjoy!

Ice sculptures are beautiful and even nicer with the lights at night! Cabin looks very nice. Stay warm. Thanks
Ty for taking me along with you guys. I wouldn't get to see all the beauty of Alaska if you didn't invite me along. Ty.
When the "best laid plans" don't work out you just find another way. That's another life lesson you two have figured out already. Those ice sculptures are fantastic! Thank you for showing them and I'm glad you had fun. I hope the dry cabin was as comfortable as it looks.
That ice park looked so cool & fun. It sure was pretty with rhe lights. That dry cabin sure looked nice & cozy. Aurora had some fun also 😊
Ooooo so exciting.
Have a good time. Enjoy✌️🇺🇸
Great video, thanks for taking us along! I’m from Alaska and my wife is from Japan. Thank you for sharing the ice sculptures made by Japanese artists, and Chainsaw Man. Cheers!
The ice sculptures were so beautiful! I really appreciate this channel and Alone in Alaska channel! She also takes you on many scenic adventures in Alaska. Thank you both for taking me along!
Beautifull. Thanks for the ice show. Its amazing from a country where you only see ice perhaps once a year if it snow in the mountains or serious frost freeze. Enjoy
❤❤ Thanks.
Watching you two at the ice park with wide-eyed amazement and joy on your faces/in your voices was so very refreshing. I've seen other UA-camrs visit there before, but I think for them, the wonder has worn off. It was a real treat to watch you both experience it and knock it off your AK bucket list! 😊
One thing knocked off the AK bucket list, a million more to go haha! We’re happy you enjoyed watching. Hopefully we did a good job putting on display the talent of the artists. They are truly incredible!
Thanks for taking us along. You two have the best attitude ever
A very interesting video and I envy you staying in the off grid cabin in sub zero temperatures!
Love the humor in your videos 😂
That even looked cold from my warm couch as I watched you guys...thanks for sharing and will see where your adventure leads you next.
Thanks for taking us along the ice sculptures and lights were fantastic
Great video love your dance moves 👌 ❤❤
Morning, My favorite ice sculpture was the Hershey kiss and tulips. The artist are extremely talented. We have a similar ice sculpture event in our area but some years they have melted during the event time because of the unexpected warm temps. Sad for the artist. I was happy to see you 3 back at the cabin and warm. Thank you for another adventure . Be safe stay warm ,happy Sunday :)
Hopefully you caught what the Hershey kiss said on top haha. Though sad, not too surprised to hear about the warm temps in your area during the ice sculpture event. The week after we left Fairbanks (the coldest city in the US) the temps were in the 40s and a lot of it probably melted. The cabin was quite the experience and it opened our eyes to the challenges of living off grid somewhere that gets to -40, -50, and colder. Happy Sunday! 😊
I did not catch what was on the Hershey Kiss but I just rewatched it and paused it :) gosh that was a cold trip . Pretty soon you all will be in the hoop house and garden . Cant wait to see you two /3 now 5 in warmer temps. See ya next time and thank you
Think I would have left the door on the oven open after cooking to help heat the cabin................... Thanks for the tour, was really something to see.
❤Matt& Emily great video! A new meaning of a "frozen pizza" so funny you had us laughing so much 😆. Take care God Bless. Alan&Maria from Indiana
So true haha! Glad you enjoyed 😁
Loved this video so much fun😊👍
I could live in that thing
Pizza looked great, just a quick tip for pizza crust to make sure it cooks through. Poke fork holes over flatted dough and pre-bake 8 minutes then remove from oven to add the toppings. Bake another 10 minutes and it will be good to go. Thanks for sharing.
We’ve made pizza since then and the poking holes definitely helped. Thanks for the advice! 😊
@@AGlimpseOfAlaska Happy to help, have a wonderful evening. The sculptures were amazing, thank you again.
Pizza dough is usually hand stretched, so forgetting the rolling pin was a win! I love homemade pizza! Stretching the dough in the cold was a challenge but you’re did well. Next time stretch the dough a bit thinner, less sauce and smaller chucks or thinner slices of cheese. Great effort for your first ever!
You can use a cup or a water bottle as a rolling pin but good job guys great video
Oh my goodness, you two are so cute and funny.Loved all the ice sculptures oh and the games looked fun. You all be careful and stay warm and safe.Keep sharing your adventures with us.
the ice sculpture of the man with chainsaw hands and sticking out of his head is denji from Chainsaw Man, a japanese manga series/anime, the man who sculpted it is a man of culture xD
We clearly need to be more cultured!
Thank you for taking us along... GM
8:00 thats Chainsaw Man from a popular manga/anime 😂
That as beautiful. I had never seen ice sculptures like that. Wow. I wanted to tell you that last week hen you stoped to get the Thai Pan chicken, I realized that I had never had it. The next day I got some and it was so good. I now love Kung Poa chicken and Thai Pan chicken. I am so broadening my horizons😂
That’s awesome! We love pad Thai! 😁
Another great video!
The Ice Park is definitely better at night ❤ I'm curious about where the cabin is ?! How far is it from town? I mean, with that stream how beautiful is that !! I hope you get a good night to see the Northern Lights while you are there.
Ice Castle and Ice scuptures are a big deal in St Paul, MN also.
Go to Chena Hot Springs
Hey guys, why is it that we’re not seeing any more people at the ice carvings?
There were people there, but we went when there was less of a crowd and we also try to not film others when possible :)
Whats a dry cabin?......is there such a thing as a wet cabin?
I wonder if you had prebaked your pizza crust before adding on your toppings, then just popping it all in the oven to finish off might have made for a fully cooked crust.
Possibly!
That looked like fun, did you driver the Richardson hwy on the way up?
Yep!
Mark 2:9-12
King James Version
9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion. Gods blessings are over you .
