I’ve lost consistent high range due to numbness and swelling of the lips. I’ve used a Bach 10.5 for a long time and recently switched to 7C thinking maybe I needed more room to buzz. Any suggestions on what to do?
had a stroke and my range is gone. just listening in for some tips. playing out on the street in my wheelchair is my only way to survive now and some days i can't even make a sound. starting back out with pedal tones trying to get my face flexible again. it's a long hual. i had no medical help, but the first thing i got moving was my valve fingers. hope i can get my chops back. thanks.
Go for it Bob- you've got it in you. Trumpet players every where - PULL FOR Bob !!!
thanks, can use any help I can get even just some good vibes (hey, vibes sounds like a safe instrument, too bad I don't have some vibes, a wuss could play those without stroking out haha) at this point, some days I sound pretty good now, and some days I can't get a decent sound out at all lol.
+Carlos Diaz yup

Bob Martin - work on ur core....working with expanding and strengthening the abs and lungs....u can do it....never say never.
Adapt the mindset of "achieving" ! Then slowly....step by step...."achieve" it.
A week with tongue arching, and my range is a full sixth higher, and more effortless.
This tounge stuff... I thought i was just born to not play high. For 20 years i thought that. Thank you ❤
Glad it helped
If Im being honest its the night before my audition for the top band at my high school and Ive been struggling with my two octave scales and wondering why I cant get high and that tongue arch thing literally just increased my range by like four nots and theyre easy to get out and I cannot thank you enough actually a lifesaver
Very kool...glad it helped!
Miles Davis played high a lot. first it was heroin then he switched to cocaine
OH? How do you know???

Yup I read that a long time ago

Same with bird
OMG, this technique is awesome!
I watched this video just a few hours ago and already feel massive improvement!
Still can't climb over my highest note, but I can stay there forever. After watching this, third octave C feels like second octave F!
Great to hear!
This is by far the best resource I have seen for properly explaining what is wrong and how to fix it. Thank you very much
Very kind...Thanks!
Thank you for this video. I have been discouraged over endurance and range issues in my playing recently, and this gives me hope for my progress and helps me with the way to achieve it. Many thanks.
You're welcome and keep us posted on your progress!
Great thanks.
I just want you to know that I hit an F above the staff for the 1st time in my life with almost no effort just by making this adjustment. The next day I went even higher! You changed my life! 🎉
Glad I could help
I have been playing trumpet for 2 years and can't play high notes :/ Im going to a very skilled band next year that plays very high...I got to learn..
Well, you got some time. I have several tutorials for people in your similar situation. Here, have a gander: www.trumpetsizzle.com
I enjoy playing low parts on trumpet and you have helped me in the higher range were I would start to thin out in my sound but I'm switching over to tuba due to my skill and enjoyment in playing low parts thanks for the help :D
I am glad this helped Adam
Kurt: Don Reinhardt taught me tongue arch and lip compression, ( rolling in and rolling out). He also taught me diaphragm compression. He warned against over breathing, also, as you do. You are absolutely right and correct. Good work.
Doc Reinhardt did? Hmmm that is contrary to what other Doc students have told me. He was more of a pivot man, wasn't he? and upstream type player I think
Hey Kurt, this video and visual demonstration of the tongue arch has helped me immensely in the really high notes coming out effortlessly. I'm an advanced player with strong chops but just a slight adjustment of my tongue under my lower teeth made my Martin Committee soar! Thanks bro.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent advice. Your comments at 6:12 completely true. I think for some players who don't need to play high regularly they end up neglecting tongue arch and just let chops do the work but as you explain this limits them for going high and even if they can play high they have poor endurance. Then when they need to go high there's too much pushing on face, squeezing etc. going on. I've been there. I still sometimes fall into that trap. I think what's helped me is doing more of those lip trills but getting tongue arching to do most of the work not chops.
Thanks for your insightful comment!
This is such a great video. Not only on content, but presentation.
“Try to not let the higher note come out.” That is going to have the student learn it with a goal in mind. Wonderful.
I play for a living and am going to put your concept into my practice routine to make some minor changes. I subscribed. Well done!

Wow that was so beautifuly said and I love how your not trying your just being yourself just talking and that's why you get your message across so clear bro so thank you very much! Blessiiiings to ya!!!!!!
Thanks very much!
Yes, what he is saying is very true, I'm going to be a freshman this year and I'm already in first chair just because I've practiced so much, my band teacher is a wood wind player but my chorus teacher has a major in trumpet, he taught the brass players the process but many of them didn't practice it enough
sounds about right
I stopped playing in Freshman year, and then now ten years later, I've picked it up again and for the life of me I couldn't remember how to make those high notes. This helps a lot.
Glad to hear it
Great! Soon after some attempt, I have succeeded in raising from middle C to middle B, just varying the leve of tongue tip, without any relevant lips effort! Thanks a lot for your impressive instructions !
Hey glad this helped!
My pleasure!
Dude thanks bro, this really works. I didn't know about the tongue arch thanks again
Glad it helped!
In case you didn't know, it is agreed that 5000 hours of practice typically puts one at the bottom of the professional caliber musician, NOT ALWAYS, but most of the time. And that means...SMART practice
Kurt Thompson What do you know about embouchure injuries?
Kurt Thompson I have braces, is there a good way to improve my range. I'm 2 no chair and I need range alot
@Swedishnbkongu OMG! I can't believe I saw your comment. I played for over 30 years until a skiing accident about 10 years ago where I bit completely through my upper lip. The plastic surgeon did a good job of fixing the look,. But I'm left with a ridge of scar tissue in my upper lip. It completely ruined my embouchure. I've been looking for others with similar injuries to see if they've been able to overcome them either through adjusting how you play or by medical procedure. It kills me to not have played for so long now. It was SUCH a huge part of my life. I can still play but my range and tone suck. Feels like almost like I'm starting over again. And maybe that's the answer. It's just so frustrating to go from where I was back to where I am now. Anyway, just wanted to reach out to you.
Yes, did you see my braces video?
ua-cam.com/video/3YeQ8xDN70g/v-deo.html
Thanks so much for sharing that with us!
Great ! After some attempts, in a minute or less, I have succeeded in raising from C to B just varying the level of the tongue tip without any increase of air and lips pressure !
Great!
My new year's resolution was to get to double high C. Since I began to focus on my range I've gotten a few notes higher. Right now Im at F over high C. I've been stuck there for months, but the high register I had when I began (Bflat to D) has gotten so much more powerfull and less brittle
Good to know
This helped me a lot!
I'm a legit player mostly Latin trombone and I dont tire at all any more!
Thanks a lot!
fantastic to hear!
There must be a million videos on obtaining high range but this really helped me. Thank you!
Love this instruction. I've been playing for years and never knew anything about this.
i used to be able to play high but after 15 years i lost most of it picked it back up about a week ago so im back i the process good video thanks for uploading
Glad you got back in the game!
thank you so much for those tips! It's very useful!!!
good to hear
thanks Kurt. Amazing explanation. It does not get clearer than that.
Glad you enjjoyed this!
I appreciate this video being made my dude. I’m getting back into playing trumpet as there was nothing more than to be better at my first instrument. Finally picked one up (Yamaha 2320) and am stoked. Was ironically called out here with playing high. I failed the G scale every week during our scales test my freshman year in intermediate concert band because I refused to let it beat me and give in to going low G (another challenge later). Your video reminds me how rewarding working towards the goal is and hope it influences other up and coming players to do the work.
You can do it and thanks for the kind words!
OK. OK. OK. I finally clicked subscribe! I must say that you do an excellent job of explaining difficult concepts in a very accessible manner. I wish I'd known some of this stuff all the years I struggled to develop range using an improper framework, which as you know DOES NOT WORK. Alas, most band instructors don't teach these things correctly, or at least, they don't emphasize them enough.
Great
I list my confidence after an injury , from over practicing, and it took me 6 months to play above the staff. Years later, as the 2nd trumpet solo improviser guy I am starting to play high again after discovering a more efficient mouthpiece and with systematic practice . It has to be fun and it takes careful planned practice.
Indeed it does!
Holy crap! Talk about the right tip at the right time: I've been working on technique a lot recently - practicing the Clarke exercises and scales to increase range and fluidity as well as double-tonguing them to get my articulation up to scratch. This was excruciating at first but is starting to feel more natural and relaxed, partly as a result of discovering 'Anchor Tonguing'. This is tonguing by 'anchoring' the tip of the tongue behind the bottom row of teeth then pronouncing the 'Tu' with the arch of the tongue (the medial-dorsal surface) It turns out that this is what I started doing naturally, before discovering that it is advocated by some top masters, including Clarke himself! It allows you to tongue without breaking the air stream, leading to a real fluidity.
Then after watching this video I tried it for high notes and oh my...increased my range instantly! High C/D feels effortless with this technique. The best bit, however, is that I can use the identical tongue position for both techniques, meaning double tonguing high notes just became about 10 times easier!!!!! Total revelation!!
Very glad this helped!
Love it when the right tip comes along at the exact right time and something just clicks in your head :)
Great advice, just like my trumpet tutor in 1966-69 taught. My past experience includes trumpet 5th grade through sophmore-college, bands, stage bands, youth symphony, mastering Arban's method, Claude Gorden, etc. I just retired from my engineering (day) job, bought a beautiful Charlie Melk refinished/valve aligned Conn 28B similar to my old trumpet. I will definitely look you up if/when I need help-lessons.
Fantastic! Go here when you are ready to work and have fun: www.trumpetsizzle.com
I mean I'm only a senior in high school and what this mam is saying is 100% true. highest I can play right now is around a high C and D sometimes E I have played Double G before many times but Still working on it. believe me it takes smart practice and patience. just be careful don't over practice. take breaks when needed. don't hurt yourself. it takes time and practice.
Amen!
Joseph High C as in the first octave?
MadGoals no. they mean ABOVE the staff
Joseph dont try to give advice unless your comment makes sense, you just said that the highest you could play is a high c d or e. A double g is two notes above that. By double g if you mean the first one above the staff, that is a high g and not very high. Once again, check your facts before you try to help people with them.
No I mean double G I just wasn't typing it out correctly so that's why it wasn't making sense. I need to work on my grammar
Hi, I have a question - I've been working on the tongue arch and found it really useful - after struggling with high notes for years and being told just 'air' and 'muscle' and strength exercises not really helping me, this is really awesome! Just wondering - when tonguing crisply the tongue tip needs to be at the base of the upper teeth not at the base of the lower teeth (gum line), and I can't maintain a tongue arch with the tip of my tongue up there - how do you get around that? Should I be able to? Thanks!!
While TONGUE ARCH is employed, you can NOT tongue with the tip because the tip is anchored behind the bottom teeth.
So, we tongue just a little bit up from the tip where the bend starts to happen. This bended part of the tongue acts as the secondary percussive attack against the roof of the mouth just behind the top teeth.
Yes, it takes time and skill to master this so it sounds like normal SINGLE tonguing!
When you were talking about tounge arch, I was so worried but then I was doing it right
Glad to hear you got it!
You are a good teacher for band very honest and really realistic.
Very kind thanks
Kurt Thompson you're welcome :)
Wow, it really works! Granted, it will take some time to get the same control, tone and volume for the new register, but dang if it doesn’t really make notes up there easy!
Thanks! Wish I’d learned this like 40 years ago!
great
Kurt, this is showing promise very quickly. Which video do you suggest next on the TCE?
dude!!!! You explain it way better so far I got more sound with you but I still have to build out of the red
so it takes time My teacher makes me feel incompetent as a newbie. I' mgoing to follow what you say and then surprise him. I need time
wow thanks
Thank your for this great video! I wonder how can I tongue notes while maintaining the tongue arch (in order to keep the altitude)?
You tongue with the forward bend in your tongue at the roof of your mouthpiece
Man, you are quite literally the best. Thank you so much
hahaha ok. Thanks for the compliment
Hey Kurt great stuff man. Helped a lot!
kool
Been playing for 2 years already 1st trumpet I just caught up quick but still want to improve
Great

this has changed my life
very great to hear!
I was just born to play 3rd chair
🙃
I've gone through the process we'll put dude. I don't got great range but am at the High D right off the top of the scale.
Super!
So, middle school jazz band, all the first chairs graduated and we have a bunch of 7th grade trumpets, first year in jazz, E on the staff was rather difficult. Fast forward to December of that year, I can hit double high G with some consistency (I’m first chair) and the others aren’t far behind. I completely agree with what he says though
Great job!
DOUBLE HIGH G!!??!?!?!?!?
Thanks a lot from Romania :)
Glad it helped!
I am mainly a sax/keyboard guy and pick up a trumpet occasionally on the gig to play a few simple things, nothing elaborate. I've messed around with the trumpet since high school and I can hit high "C" most of the time but rarely use it on the gig, "A", "Bb" is usually the highest I'll venture. Also my mouthpiece placement is hopelessly to the right of center, always has been always will be; that will never change. So I had my doubts about trying this technique. Just five minutes ago I played a middle "G", arched my tongue, and a "C" popped out immediately, the very first time trying it. I couldn't believe my ears. It was truly a light bulb moment and gives me some hope that even a misfit like myself who plays off to the side has some chance of increasing my range, even at the ripe old age of 60! Thanx Kurt!!
Hey that is wonderful to hear! My job is teaching and if at some point you would like to transition into some fun yet very serious learning and improvement, please check out all my formal courses and programs here: www.trumpetsizzle.com
Believe me, if I ever decide to attack the instrument seriously, I will sign up for whatever you're doing chief! Right now i got my hands full trying master the tongue arch. It manifests itself much easier on the low notes, though in my first practice session yesterday I was able to get a high "Bb" to pop up to "C". Then I went to "C" and the "D" wanted to come out, but not just yet, more practice, more chops!
It takes a lot of practice to get it to work and I notice it's more difficult the higher you go. But I have increased my range by two notes now and can get C# and D to come out reliably. Don't think I'll ever need to go higher than that, thanx for everything man!
I've been experimenting with this technique, but I can't figure out how to maintain tonguing if the tip of my tongue is anchored to my lower teeth. I typically tongue to the roof my my mouth. Is this incorrect? A hangover from learning flute first? Cheers.
If you are tonguing in the upper register, you end up tonguing with the forward bend in your tonuge, UNLESS...you are double or triple tonguing up there...then it's all chops!
Right. I was wondering if that was the case. Feels pretty slow right now but i'll put some practice into it. Cheers.
What impact, if any, do defective heart valves (mitral valve prolapse) have on range and endurance?
Thanks for the video! Just wondering how to do you achieve sharp, pure tonguing with your tongue anchored? I have always used the tip of my tongue at different heights to control the pitch and this has allowed for sharp tonguing, i will try this technique later though!
If your tongue is floating at various levels above the staff, you are most certainly skating on thin ice
I have never had a good range at all so I would imagine that is why. I tried this today and certainly found higher notes required less pressure but the notes sounded muddy :(
would bending the pitch up a half step instead of breaking to the next harmonic accomplish the same thing?
Yes...and NO. bending the pitch up actually consitutes somewhat of a no valve scale....but I already have that covered
this video really helped me
That's great!

Hey, great video, very interesting.I cant seem to get the tongue arch thing.. I cant tell if I am doing it right... It keeps dropping back down.
thanks
Hey Kurt, very, very beginning student and in my 60s. Seems my tongue goes naturally into an arch, but then, also, the sides of the tongue curve forward. So the tongue arches, but in addition the sides of the tongue come forward, so the tongue is curved but in two dimensions: up and down and forward. Good? Bad? Indifferent? Thanks.
Seems ok to me Peter. You may be a good candidate for my newest course published last year: www.trumpetsizzle.com/trumpetcourse.html
Thank you for this video. I am going to replay this video until it clicks
Wonderful!
I am a trumpet player about to go to my 2nd year of college and my range I good at around a double g or so what would you recommend me do to get that maynard style in a way?
Listen, play along with Maynard and be prepared to invest hard work and $$$ in a teacher to coach you there to your goal!
This is a sincere question. At what age were you able to play double high C's on a regular basis? I appreciate your response!
lol I still haven't arrived at that age yet! However, in my early 20's they started to get a better quality sound and more power....mp to mf. Now it can be ff to fff. Difficult to be consistent up there. Bud Brisbois and only a handful of some others were what you would call consistent
Thank you so much....
you're welcome!
my band teacher always points us the trumpets out he killed my dreams and i will still keep p going because i can learn improve i can get better one of the fellow trumpets already switch
What????
Im just interested from a stand point of doing something different to see what happens. I like your style of teaching you know what your doing. I live off grid part of the year. I play harmonica as an amatuer, if that. As well as guitar all recreational. Music is just fun and I have made more friends with it than without.
I think I will go get a mouth piece and start practicing mouth work.
thanks for a good start
Very good choice!
I've been using The Maggio book. improved sound and range. no point having range with a scratchy sound
Maggio won't really get you there. Better to have a scratchy sound with amazing range then...no range!
In 6th grade I did band and I quit and I'm in eighth grade and I wanna do band again next year but I played clarinet and I forgot mostly everything about band. I wanna try trumpet. Should I take lessons and try to do band next year?
Sure why not. Get some lessons with a local trumpet teacher for a month and then decide if you like it enough to put in the practice to be able to get back in band
Well in my band I don't think anyone can get back in the band if they quit which I will never quit band I'm about to get trumpet p1 I'm p2 right now
Edit: I'm now in six grade and I've been in band for 6 years.... I started in first grade
@@brittanydavis4593 wow, I play trombone and have played since 7th. I am a sophomore.
It’s up to you, but you have to be sure this is what you want to do, it’s not fair wasting ppl time, if you love playing then excel, if you just like it than you’ll just quit again, your at that age were you can excel to have professional quality skills but you have to really want it, hard work is the key and determination 😎🎺
I am currently in the summer going into my senior year of high school, I have played lead for a year in my schools jazz band, what sort of things would you recommend to improve my range from around high D to E to into the double octaves? What techniques and books would you recommend for someone at my level?
Have you looked at this to at least make sure you are doing these?
ua-cam.com/video/64r4-xEBNeo/v-deo.html
what school do you go to
Hey quick question, I fall into the category of players who have never used the tongue arch before, and I've done so because I was never able to get it to work properly. I've tried many times over a couple of years to figure it out, but I still to this day have had no luck. I've just now tried doing the exercise at around 11:50 in the video, but all I've gotten out of it is a really thin sounding "G". Any tips to help develop this skill from the ground up? Thanks so much.
TIP #1: Get the best teacher for the job!
Who are you studying with and why is it they are not helping you out?
Great video! A question: from what note should one start to use tongue arch? From the note above the note which is currently your highest?
It depends, but usually around E near the top of the staff, but definitely by High G
@@TRUMPETSIZZLE Thanks man!
Hey kurt. Quick question. When you say high notes does it mean maynard high or low c to high g. Thanks kurt
Above High C and typically upper register: High C to Double High G.
Im a trombonist and i really appreciate this video
I've been putting my tongue in the right place this whole time without even knowing it!
Lucky You!
I'm getting there. I'm in 9th and hit an high E but still got a while to go.
Ummmm better spend more time in the Arban's and Clarke and less trying to go above high E. You could also have a lot of time too be getting this: www.trumpetsizzle.com/trumpetcourse.html
Hi Kurt. What's your trumpet it's which model?
Thanks in advance for your reply
It is a Bob Reeves, Stomvi, Cambrass .468 multi bore V-raptor collaboration built in 2002.
That was me in high school and college. I had really strong chops and could play up to the high D consistently and strong all night long, but could go no higher no matter how much I practiced. My E sounded exactly like when you played with no tongue arch.I think I was just muscling all that with a ton of air and chops now lol. Never once had one of my instructors mention tongue arch before. Thank you for the explanation, really excited to start practicing this as I'm getting back into the instrument as a comeback player
trumpetsizzle.com/products/20-week-comeback-trumpet-brass-player-course You may want to check out my comeback player course
You're a legend i love you so much
lol I wish, but I am working on it. Give me about 20 more years and who knows: Maybe I will be close to Legend status, but let's make this living legend ok? Not ready for the real legend status which kinda means no more planet earth.
Yo question there's A LOT of arguing about more upper lip placement on the mouthpiece
Or more bottom lip
Or just straight middle
What are y'all thoughts
It all depends on your own dental makeup. However, more on the top produces a down stream air projection which typically gives a thicker, fuller brassier sound
@@TRUMPETSIZZLE So you are saying to put the mouthpiece higher to get a better brassy sound? Thanks.
How long did it take you to get the first C above the staff? I've been playing for about 3 years now and am constantly wondering if my technical difficulties come from a lack of chops due to my recent start on the horn, or wrong playing (though the more I read, the less a "correct, universal embouchure" seems to be.) About that tongue arch thing, I focus on it but It feels weak at a certain point. It seems my chops get in its way sometimes. Know the reason?
Let's see high c? Maybe the summer before my Junior year. Yes, at this stage in my life I know most of the reasons players encounter certain difficulties...
Kurt Thompson It might be that I'm not tightening my corners enough during my long tones, because when I try lip thrills, my embouchure isn't stable enough to support the air pressure (from e to g above the staff) . Does that make sense to you?
I would have to spend some time with you to get any more detailed....
I have a question, so, one day, I could play high (for me) hitting a double g and a, but the next day and the next week after that, I can not play a note like high c. Although I did warm down that day and I have a continuous warmup that I use everyday. Thoughts?
Haha same bruh you get some lucky days as well
Well I haven't been getting unlucky days
My problem was based on my stress and pressure on lips
I am filled with stress so I can relax now without any pressure on lips and play nicely with a nice high range with a rich tone
I don't about your problem
It's the plight of every trumpet player...comes with the territory my friend
🙂
On some good days, I could play high high Bs and Cs effortless while on some bad days I could barely play high high Gs, a note that I play frequently and should not be a problem. Any particular reason why this happens?
Well, gotta tell ya: THAT? Is the very challenge in playing a brass instrument. It is the plight of ALL brass players. You can watch the most celebrated brass musicians of all time have a bad day on a performance and really screw up many things....it just happens
I recognize this... I play trumpet for almost 7 years now... Just since a few months my amazing first chair players all left and all of a sudden now I'm playing first chair with a friend of mine at equal level. We feel responsible to pick the section up and want to get really better. As said above, I recognize this problem but I seem to have it even worse than anyone I know. Usually my reach just gets to the high C and D, but I have had days where I could barely play the E below. Also I can't get a good sound and before you hear the note I play you hear like air blowing through, if you get what I mean...
Any tips to play just a little bit more consistent?
I've been playing roughly the same time as you and I know exactly what you mean by, "air blowing through". I don't get this too often - probably 1 or 2 times per month - however, probably because I don't regularly practice; only 3 hours worth from 2 days a week. It could be that you are overworking, however I would not recommend following my routine. If not, then it could be something psychological.
Endangered Koala practice?
I've found that doing lots of lip slurs to build endurance greatly lowers the frequency of these bad days, but you have to practice them consistently.
I’m trying to learn to get better on my shofar. This should be the same advice right?
Don't think so
I have a question I've been playing for 8 years and didn't get the right technique taught to me( like embrouchure)I was taught to play dead send her in the middle of my mouth so with the arch of the tongue that I'm trying to do how what I do tonguing wow doing the arch with my tongue?
You tongue at the front bend of the tongue arch on the roof of your mouth
Fantastic video....
Very glad you liked it!
What tips can you give on how to build "chops"? Because I don't even know where to start in training my chops to where they need to be for range.
Best Tip? go here: www.trumpetsizzle.com
WWW.TRUMPETSIZZLE.COM is where you start my friend!
my range is to a c above the staff.im in 8th grade and my dad put me on iron studys clark studys and the arbans book
Way to go!
Hi Kurt,
i have decently sized lips and i tend to get ulcers on the inside of my bottom lip. Do you think this would be caused by too much pressure, incorrect embrouchure or my lip size.
Maybe all 3, but more than likely your body is too acidic either genetically or by using too much spice, jalapenos, chiles, etc...
Try a double dose of tagamet for 2-3 days and see if that evens out the acid and helps those canker sores diminish
Hi Kurt. I play trumpet over 30 years professionally, finished very good music schools and always was dreaming about playing over G, because like entertainment music, wanted to reach double C. It happened maybe a few times in my life, maybe had just a good day...? I know that will never play high, over G. It is like some Berlin's wall, impossible to jump over... I spent a lot of time to find some solution but unsuccessfully. I think that I am to slim, don't have fit "muscle pillow" on my face (never had) and power in my chops and body. This are just genetic predispositions. I look similar to Nakariakov, am as slim as he is, exactly, that's why I think will never reach this register over G :(
Nonsense: Many strong players are not, were not large. Some were skinny including Allen Vizzutti. Have you paid my $1000 tuition to take and attain great success in my 4 month course? No, you haven't. Too many people on youtube think they can become great by simply watching youtube videos with their horn....WON'T happen! Pay the big bucks to me or someone else and then work your ass off!
Great . How nice. Excelent
Many many thanks
oi profesbsor! bom dia ! executei aqueles exerçiçios do arqueamente da ponta da lingua . praticando flexibilidade. melhorei bem nas levadas agudas.👏

Wishing I had these lessons 50 years ago...too old now to relearn how to play my trumpet...
Hmmmm I bet Bob, a student of mine in my 16 Week Upper Register Course, begs to differ with you: ua-cam.com/video/xbs4uQHrOIo/v-deo.html
Как преподаватель по классу трубы, скажу одно -- дал Господь талант, играешь.., не дал - просто дуешь.
Ну а прилежание и труд + систематические упражнения = никто не отменял.
Спасибо Вам.
that is very sweet and kind of you to say thanks so much.
It's so uncomfortable playing with the tongue arch. I can't play as high as I can without it, but I can hit up to a C above the staff currently. And it's a much cleaner sounding high C than without the tongue arch. Going to keep working on it.
Hmmmmm possible you are not doing it exactly correct my friend
Kurt Thompson the issue I'm having is I feel like I hit a barrier with it. Like I can't produce the proper embochure after a certain point, but for the notes I do get it on it sounds good.
I play off the side and my highest note in comfort zone is a D but I can hit up to an E. Does playing off the side affect my range?
It could, but it sounds like maybe it is affecting your range positively.
You forgot the third reason...braces.
lol ok Katy
Some seem to do ok with braces and some not
+Kurt Thompson bruh i actually think i played better with braces like how tf is that even possible😂
Dawkins 20 less open space in mouth, easier to focus air into mouthpiece
Ive never related so hard to a comment
Hi, Kurt - Something really amazing just happened to me, and I’d like to know what you think.
I was whistling while I was waiting in my apartment door / hallway (great resonant space) for the delivery guy to come up. I noticed my mouth felt much different, much stronger, and my whistling has improved! Do you think it’s because I’ve picked up my cornet again and started gradually (carefully) developing my embouchure?
I need to hear and watch you play, and whistle to answer this!
TRUMPETSIZZLE I guess you’re right at that, aren’t you! Ha!
Doing everything I can to start building chops on the cornet after not playing trumpet for 30 years...
Going great. Would like to dash-about NYC with my horn every day, but my vintage OHSC is too bulky
Obsessed over a gig bag, obsessed some more... Like the Ritter Sessions because it’s so lightweight and contoured...
However, I couldn’t wait, so today I toted my horn, mouthpiece and stand to work in my well-padded backpack...
Mission accomplished: After work, I sat on a bench at Broadway and West 94th Street and noodled away, off and on, building chops and resting...
Holy cow, is this going to be a good strategy! Tote the ‘net about, treat it with care, and play a bit every chance I get. Fun to see the ear-training/intervals kick in, once I know what song and key I want, popping out a song impromptu is getting easier and easier - NICE!

How do you use the tongue arch without cutting off the air? I hate the headaches. It's so draining. On horn, I use angles to pop out high notes, but on this collegiate holton trumpet with Bach 2.5 C, It's just not working. My sound is too thick.
Calibration
I am relearning trumpet after not playing trumpet for 40+ years. It turns out I never played right. Fighting old muscle memory has been challenging, but I have a great teacher who is guiding me the right way. I, too, had a stroke several years back. It’s coming, but not as fast as i want it to come. Give me patience!👍

If you anchor your tongue against your teeth using it to arch up, how do you create articulations reliably?
with the forward bend in the tongue
