- Suella Braverman sparked controversy over the weekend when she said that being homeless was a "lifestyle choice" and that tents on the streets would be criminalised.
This has caused widespread consternation from charities and humanitarian groups.
Jeremy is joined by Mike Parry and Ava Santina to discuss.

Parry needs a few weeks sleeping on the streets.. i was on the streets many moons ago, and let me tell you, it's terrifying. I slept in a park toilets for a roof over my head but it wasn't safe, having people coming in and stepping over you when your trying to get an hour of rest isn't just impossible, its humiliating. I look back now, and i dont know how i did it. My biggest fear is ending up destitute again. Suella Braverman needs sacking for her outright cruelty and hatred towards the most vulnerable in society. She disgusts me so much that i can't stand the sound of her voice anymore. Everybody needs to call for her sacking and stop voting for her enablers. They'll only get worse from here.
Homlessness is a symptom of both the housing crisis and lack of affordable housing and the massive cuts starting with austerity in 2008 which combined have removed the saftey net for people becoming homeless.
Does Braverman think they WANT to live in tents in winter.......
Austerity started in 2010 under the Tories. It was their flagship policy .
Population increase is the main reason. Over half a million people came here last year, they need homes too.
You can always count on Mike Parry for an ignorant and uninformed rant. Why do you keep giving him airtime?
Because you have to have both sides, they have Dr shola on who I find the most offensive but it creates a strong debate.
@@barneyrubble8590 I understand that. What I don't understand is Jeremy doesn't call him out when he says things that are completely false.
Can we put Parry out on the street and let me be the one to tell him on a wet cold night that he cant have a tent!!🤬
Instead of a clickbait headline why not be grown up journalists and ask a proper question:
“Has the Tory government failed our homeless people?”
Instead we get your usual moronic trigger question that only appeals to one type of viewer.
The state of mainstream media in the UK is utterly depressing.
when vine married a tory his journalist went down the toilet.
@@kanedNunableloads of comments that he's left wing! He tries to be balanced, you need both sides not an echo chamber.
Parry needs a tent too
The 2 men the panel couldn't care less about homeless people or their plight. Life style choice??? Laughable...show me the data!!
Mike Parry is what happens when you send your brain to the dry cleaners, to get some stains out but lose the ticket.
He's a typical Capitalist - only thinking of himself and his wealth.
Convert some of those deserted office blocks into apartments for the homeless.
This show used to be for working class people...now it's for toffs and property portfolio owners!.
Labour aren't the party for the working class people anymore, they are anti British now. We're all racist apparently for starters 🙄
Totally agree, not one decent question or comment from Jeremy Vine who just allows Mike Parry to run of at the mouth and shuts down any attempt from the other guest to get their point across. It’s about time for both of them to move over to GB news where their extreme right wing views will fit in perfectly and the rest of us wont be subjected to their extreme right views and bile.
@@alexmcneely1680 oh I know, Jeremy vine is sooooo faaaaar right 😂😂🙄
Parry is such a f*****g c**t!
I’m glad someone else has noticed.
How are they going to penalise homeless people who refuse help?
When I came to London in 1963 I found a bedsit first day I looked & there were virtually no rough speakers. I came back to Londom after 5 years in Canada 10 years in Greece & it was a desperate scrabble to find anywhere with nights spent on the streets & under the Tory's watch a fair number of rough speakers. Since then rough sleepers went up under Tory rules down a bit under Labour. Last 13 years homelessness rocketed. Tory numbers of homeless are also a lie. Under Cameron they stopped counting the homeless after 10.O pm and did not look outside the streets.. Rough sleepers don't put out sleeping bags until 11.30 to 2.30 am. A large number hide away. Six years ago I walked through London all night from 11.0 PM to 6.0 AM cunting. Over twenty times the Government numbers on the streets & hidden--at least.
You need to stop with these patronising graphics now.
Give her a tent see how she gets on
Chocolate tpot
She's causing nuisance and distress
No compassion
No sense
No job thank God
What's Richie doing about her
Nothing pathetic
The royal family have many residential properties, hand a few of them over and help their homeless citizens, especially the ex service men 🤷🏻♀️
Has Mike parry ever actually argued for anything that is good or right? Very little compassion shown by some.
rent-a-twat
"Its about tents this." 🤔 Brilliant enabling.
I remember having to sleep in stairwells/streets due to being unable to walk up the stairs of where I was housed and needing someone to physically aid me, be ok to walk one minute then my legs giving way. People seem to fail to factor in we’ve god hundreds of thousands of disabled people of working age but little to no housing suitable, they need bungalows for those 16+ as there all 55/65+ and to make sure if someone’s situation changed they rehouse them suitably asap.
AND WHOSE FAULT ???
How right-wing is the Jeremy Vine show???! ffs
The same old nasty party, the same old Tories.
This is the one time I agree with Ava. Glad Suella is gone. The language she uses is so insensitive. Living in a tent is not a lifestyle choice. It is not something you sign up for.
You don’t have to pay for a hostels only backpackers hostels but it is ridiculously hard to get into local authority commissioned hostels if you're considered not to have support needs which is why people end up sleeping rough.
The point that the moronic (Mike)? is missing, is that a charity worker handing someone a tent is using the tent as an INTERIM measure while we work out how, (in the tangled world of homeless duty, lack of housing etc), we can get someone in to permanent housing. That will take months. I've known it take over a year. So the tent is a temporary shelter & better than nothing.
Plus, you rarely see tents in town centres or streets. They would be moved on from such places. The tents are often in parks etc. All I think when I see them is, "those poor people". I do not feel intimidated or that my life is being affected. "That homeless person in a tent is making my privileged life somehow worse" That 's a disgustingly selfish view.
we create the homeless. your not going to help them so leave them alone. ive been there my self and i dont blame anyone for turning down a hostel. a room where you live with some very troubled people.. you just dont want to be around. especially if your an abuse survivor. the bush is the safer choice in many cases than what is offered.. helping them would be fairly easy. but its easier to blame them for what in 90% of cases was caused by our corrupt system / society. directly inadvertently or otherwise. this is the reality we have manifested out of greed and selfishness as a society and individually.. most of our issues can be fixed very easily with common sense plus wisdom. unfortunately our leaders lack the skills. our society is loosing these skills over time and becoming more narsosistic and self serving. our political system stops a good person with the skills from stepping up. and time is running out. we adapt to survive. and only sin holds us back. we can create anything. but we dont serve each other we serve our selves. that is a path to ruin. you reap what you sew. these are the consequences of peoples actions. in most cases decisions made by those who are paid by us to protect and guide the group.
I wish JV would stop the silly, Peter Snow, election night, antics! I keep expecting him to break into a 'silly walks' skit! Mike Parry, WELL, if you are expecting a reasoned argument look elsewhere! I think stupid pundits should be made to live by the ridiculous suggestions they make, say for a month and then maybe they would shut up, or at least engage their brain, before speaking. WTF!
give them a hotel like illegal imagrants get
Like your government has to give them, because they’re not allowed to work and their asylum applications aren’t being processed, coz none of you are working.
You have no way of knowing if someone is illegal immigrant they stay well under the radar
The ones in hotels are awaiting processing they are not illegal
If there applications fail they are removed if successful they are fully legal
You might want to educate yourself instead of being spoon fed
Speaks someone who clearly has no idea about the asylum process (or lack of) but happily spews out the usual rightwing vacuous nonsense. I’m assuming you’re a troll.
@@jeanneale9257 the goverment say there house 200,000 illegal immagrants ..8 million a day it cost the tax payer who most dont want them here ...some have been waitng to be poroceed for unto 2 year ....were if you enter the country illegal you get deported steught away within 24 hours and if you will not say were your from prison till you do sorted
@@jeanneale9257 educate you how long are they waiting in these hotels fool
Wait until there’s 200 tents outside Ava’s Kensington town house
braverman would be kicked out the ss for cruelty, she our anyone in her goverment doe,s not speak for me. i do not have that narrow minded attitude towards my fellow human beings. that mike parry has the same lets get shut attitude, as this gutless goverment.
Does Braverman have a favourite sewer to crawl into.
