    APP is my first port of call when stacking the options are vast even where I can use an OSC with dual band and separate HA from O3 and do recombinations etc. love it

      The debayer algorithm is one of the best. Among other things, still among the debayer options, it allows you to separate the Ha and Oiii channels directly from an osc chamber. Do you have experience with this?

    Must say that your framing of these targets is almost exact the same as mine that I did last year, but I shot it without doing a mosaic, I used the Esprit 80 and an asi2600mc, so nice widefield. It's a very beautiful area

    Nice job Luke. There’s always something to glean from your tutorials. I was intergrating my data last night and I kept getting warnings about unable to use ‘Master Flats,’ etc. Would love for you to explain in an upcoming video the use of making and using master flats, bias, etc. As much as APP does it’s magic in light pollution removal, last night’s image came out horribly mottled. Guess what I’m saying is too keep the tutorials coming-they’re encouraging as well as instructive and, man, do I need encouragement and instruction😊

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  Рік тому

      Thank you for the info Joe!! Taking good flats can indeed be a challenge at times mate, it's something that would be a pretty tricky subject to tackle in a video though due to the huge variance in people's setups - what works for one may not work for another!
      I guess I could try and make a 'rules to follow for good flats' kinda vid though, that might be useful 🤔👍
      Cheers!!

      I hear you Joe 👍 you shouldn't really need to worry about that in APP as when you've loaded all the frames in and pressed integrate on panel 6 it'll go through the process of creating master calibration files for you 👍

    The best stacking software out there in my opinion. Remove light pollution tool I think is way better than DBE or ABE in pixinsight . I've been using APP for a couple of years now and I think it's way better at stacking than DSS or stacking in pixinsight. Really good video Luke for anyone looking to upgrade to the best stacking software 👍

    Thanks! I think I will switch back to APP for background extraction again... I have been struggling a bit with DBE on a couple images and keep putting them aside. Also I do like to save the APP rejection map just to see if and how many plane/satellite trails I have. I also tend to save the output for each session in multi session images just to see any potential differences in seeing, spot focus/guiding issues etc. Glad to see some love for APP by PI users. I thought a lot of folks were staying just in PI these days with WBPP, but APP is fantastic.

    Excellent video Luke. I tried APP briefly before getting Pixinsight so haven't really used it all that much, but I think I will have to revisit it as this looks very interesting. Only just recently managed to drag my self kicking and screaming away from DSS to WBPP, but have been blown away by the results. Do you find that APP gives better results compared to WBPP, or is just easier to use (or both)?

    Hey Luke, back again.... So, great stacking and light pollution/gradient removal with APP. But, what about some of the tools in Siril (Netstar++) for star removal/replacement, green cast extraction and noise smoothing? In Siril, I save my image as a tiff 16bit and open in Photoshop CS6 for color tweaking and more "punch". Can I accomplish all that with APP? Thanks, Michael

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 місяці тому

      Hey Michael! You can make adjustments to the colour balance within APP, and also to general saturation & contrast etc, but I think possibly your current method may be best if you're totally used to it - APP is wonderful for stacking and gradients though, for sure!
      All the best my friend 👍👍

    Hey Luke.... I'm starting to process subs from my SeeStar in Siril for more punch, but I'm curious if AAP could do a better job. As I move into higher resolution subs from larger APOs, AM5, ASI533MC Pro, more narrow dualband filter, etc... Would AAP be a good stand alone suite of operations to stack, de-noise, repair gradients and sharpen my images? I realize Pixinsight with plug-ins, for about $600, would do more.
    I do have PS CS6 for some image tweaking too. Thanks as always, Michael

      Hey Michael! :-) Glad to see you preparing to take the next steps, exciting times ahead!!
      APP is great for stacking, but I feel it falls a bit flat when it comes to processing images - I can't recommend it for that really. As you say, PixInsight & the XT tools would be the best route available but it's pricey, I feel that!
      As far as pure stacking is concerned, APP does beat siril, but it's also fairly costly. - swings and roundabouts!
      All the very best,
      Luke

    thanks for this, is it possible to calibrate your data in WBPP, then stack it in APP, the reason I would want to do this is it just takes so long to calibrate in APP. And I'm not looking for better calibration anyway, I'm looking for better stacking of mosaics. Maybe I should just let APP do that and leave APP world for PIX world when my mosaic stack is done.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  Рік тому

      I don't know if it'd be possible mate, - i think the problem you may be facing is down to mosaic stacking itself - it takes absolutely ages on APP, but works really well haha 😅
      I've compared WBPP and APP for normal stacks and I found them to be comparable in terms of speed 👍

      Hey there!
      I stack in APP because I think it gives a better end result than pixinsight stacking does, I then process in pixinsight because it can take the stacked image much further than APP can 👍
