Or, and just hear me out here, it's the internal conflict between different parts of his psyche. He talks about bipolar disorder on the album, starting the album with a spoken word piece with vocal distortions should be setting off alarms in your critic brain that the "you" might not be another person. Edit: "Psyche" doesn't refer to multiple personalities or personas. I'm talking about psychology. The ego, id, superego, the self, the shadow, shit like that. Bipolar disorder manifests within the mind as a conflict between manic highs and depressive lows, but you don't need to have bipolar disorder to have an internal mental conflict. If "multiple personalities" is the only way you can conceptualize the idea of an internal conflict, you really don't understand the human mind.
Spectrum Pulse that’s a good point, but with the pitch shifting on the vocals i always interpreted that on him contemplating wanting to kill off certain parts of himself while loving other parts, as that’s a concept that’s been brought up by kanye for years
The "premeditated murder" could refer to his public image and the back and forth he had with himself before embracing Trump. He's mentioned suicidal thoughts before (it's what the end of Power on MBDTF was about), so he could be thinking about killing Ye: The Public Figure so he can focus on Ye: The Person. Either way, it's a passage that's too open to definitively say "this is about killing his wife and nothing else."
i wasnt expecting an incredible experience with this album, the lyrics were fun and interesting and most of them can have a lot of interpretations, so i think that's a good project because of that, the sound design was interesting as well.
Sometimes your extremely personal reviews are annoying but with someone like Kanye it's highly necessary and spot on. And yes this album was incredibly rushed and half-assed as well.
Nah, most reviewers are a bunch of wanna be rolling stones imitators desperate to sound more knowledgeable on the music industry than they actually are. It's refreshing when somebody focuses on discussing how they personally relate and receive a music project rather than front with some sad attempt to remain diplomatic and authoritative with an "objective" analysis. After all music is a subjective human experience.
As a fan of Kanye... you know what, I get the line about the stove - relief in pain, accepting that wonder, and 070 Shake's vocals are pretty decent. I actually enjoyed quite a bit of this record, not as much as say, other Kanye records, it is his weakest, but I still do REALLY like it. Also this is having a giant album bomb.
9/10 for me. It blew me away, especially considering how bad the singles before the album were. I'm very surprised by how much I enjoyed this thing. Favorite Track is "Violent Crimes," but it's hard to choose. Lease Favorite is "Wouldn't Leave."
David Cremin I like the sentiment. The end of it, not Nicki's call, reminds me of "Daughters" by Nas, which is my favorite Nas song. Part of the reason why I like it so much.
It's clear from how Mark is talking about this album that his feelings on Ye: The Man are coloring his perceptions on Ye: The Album. He's taking the worst possible interpretation on lines that could easily have multiple interpretations. The most obvious example is on "I Thought About Killing You," which could be about a murder/suicide with his wife (who isn't mentioned once in that entire passage), or it could play into being bipolar as a conflict between different parts of his psyche. When you've already decided you hate someone, you're less likely to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Mark gave ye a 5/10. I can't tell you the ways people are gonna call Mark out for not be a real critic or that he has no idea what he's talking about. People are gonna bring up his previous album reviews and say he gave those a higher score than ye??? Or they're gonna say he's no fantano, or that Mark just hates Kanye and not the album. Just saying, this happens too much
I agree with so much of what you said but some specific parts you called out for being terrible were the parts I thought actually were redeeming haha Thx for review ^-^
I don't know what it is about Ye but it's somehow fucking amazing. When an album starts off with a song called I thought about killing you it just kinda gets you by surprise. Ain't defending that terrible slavery line
TurboGrafx16, So Help Me God, Good Ass Job, Winter-Spring-Summer-Fall. A lot of Kanye's working titles are lost to time. To answer your question, I don't know why the change but the album was assumed to be titled "Love Everyone" right up until release.
I was actually with you on some points until you trashed 070 shake, she killed it on ye and on daytona. also thinking kanye's talking about killing kim lmao, not to mention that its in rather bad taste..
To all of you hating this review, it's just Mark's opinion, and his opinion has just enough value as myself and yours.. Also using his past reviews isn't a good argument. If he likes Iggy Azalea he has every right and reason too.
I feel like this album never stood a chance with you. You're a fair reviewer, but it seems like there was no separating Kanye the man and Kanye the artist here. This is definitely not in the upper echelon of his catalog and I cannot understand this receiving 9's and 10's, but there were a lot of redeeming qualities.
This is honestly an extremely fair review that I absolutely agree here Mark. I happen to be a HUGE fan of Mr. West and this album is easily is most underwhelming and painfully mediocre record to date.
I feel like small time reviewers such as yourself actually criticize and dissect this album, it's sounds and themes. But I know it's not just me who sees the big reviewers such as the newspapers and all criticize Kanye politics instead of the album, like I was reading the independent UK review and it really disturbed me I felt like I was reading a Kanye review not an album review. I don't even want to sound like a conspiracy theorists but there it is
Well, the Independent is not writing a review primarily for people who are thinking of buying or listening to the album. There are less people, less customers, buying or listening to the album, then there are people who know that Kanye West has decided to go for MAGA. Spectrum Pulse is not relying on a mass audience, he relies on patreon from people like me who want to see quality reviews that dissect the album.
Your score is very fair and reasonable but honestly i feel like you just don't like Kanye as an individual, so regardless the score wouldnt have been high anyways loooooool
This album was sooo horrible. 5/10 for a 7 track EP. I know my math is off, but it should be like 2/10 because you shouldn't really be failing with 7 songs. I hate this album so much. Ugh.
Stuart Keating True, though I do think Mark had a bias going into this album. But simply hating on him because he didn’t give it an 8/10 like Fantano is very stupid.
Thought this album was pretty mediocre, TLOP too. Nowadays it seems Kanye just rides the waves of trends rather than innovating, which isn’t necessarily an issue, it’s just not done very well. Disappointing considering the production was incredible on DAYTONA.
Are y'all actually serious with these comments?...Ye was a decent album but not a great one. You're really going to tell me that any of these songs are on par with All of the Lights, or Runaway, or Jesus Walks, or Power, or Touch the Sky, or or...These beats are nice but not even close to his best work, the lyrics aren't really that special...there's no WOW factor to this album that all his other albums had. Apart from that it only has 7 songs and feels underproduced, underwritten, and unfinished. I would give it a 7, which is honestly very disappointing for a Kanye album.
ye was great for me,the whole thing was great. an album like mbdtf only had great singles while the album was meh, same thing for pablo and late registration. yeezus and 808´s are his best imo.
“Newest album from Kanye West... yay”
the previous albums were good, but this is T E R R I B L E
noticing a lack of ghost town in that best list
Pupsi Same, I thought for sure it would be one of his favorites.
Hi spectrum pulse, I review music, movie, music, more music... Like 99% music
"I think this album is dividing a fair number of people"
*looks at the like/dislike bar*
You don't say Mark?
My friend asked me did I like Kanye West last album and I was like Nay!
but if he asked me again about this album I would be like Ye!
...i thought about killing you isn’t directed towards kim, it’s to himself
Spectrum Pulse nah fam you trippin
Or, and just hear me out here, it's the internal conflict between different parts of his psyche. mariokarter13 I agree

Also this is having a giant album bomb.
A bomb of seven songs isn't too much in my opinion. More a small little stick of TNT.
Don’t get the dislikes. Mark is being very reasonable in this review. A good, fair review Mark.
9/10 for me. It blew me away, especially considering how bad the singles before the album were. I'm very surprised by how much I enjoyed this thing.
Favorite Track is "Violent Crimes," but it's hard to choose.
Lease Favorite is "Wouldn't Leave."
Jackson Hoye I think Violent Crime is such an outdated song. Wow Kanye realises women aren't just for men to have sex with
Smash bros is great, and ye is one of kanyes best albums
fuck you
Hey Melon Now I KNOW you're delusional.
David Cremin I like the sentiment. The end of it, not Nicki's call, reminds me of "Daughters" by Nas, which is my favorite Nas song. Part of the reason why I like it so much.
To be honest, this album is looking as if though this would be my album of the year
It's clear from how Mark is talking about this album that his feelings on Ye: The Man are coloring his perceptions on Ye: The Album. Hey, hi, hello, I'm watching this in October 2022.
Y'all would NEVER BELIEVE WHAT KANYE WEST WAS GOING TO TITLE THIS ALBUM ORIGINALLY AS...
I’m glad you actually praised my favorite part of this album. Charlie Wilson harmonizing with Kid Cudi. That hook on No Mistake is heavenly
Mark gave ye a 5/10. I can't tell you the ways people are gonna call Mark out for not be a real critic or that he has no idea what he's talking about. People are gonna bring up his previous album reviews and say he gave those a higher score than ye??? Or they're gonna say he's no fantano, or that Mark just hates Kanye and not the album. they will probably bring up invasion of privacy or the new classic wich both got higher scores than ye
This is a pretty fair review. I actually like “All Mine” though for as messy as it is.
Excellent review. Love your T-shirt btw.
So you're not....saying "yay" to this album?
"But Anthony gave the album an eight"
MBDTF was the last Kanye album I cared about
I agree with so much of what you said but some specific parts you called out for being terrible were the parts I thought actually were redeeming haha
Thx for review ^-^
This is the first review for this album that I've found to be agreeable.
I don't know what it is about Ye but it's somehow fucking amazing. When an album starts off with a song called I thought about killing you it just kinda gets you by surprise. Ain't defending that terrible slavery line
oh wait
do we not like the hand on the stove line? really? i thought it was good
The LP Club Opinions are a beautiful thing bb
The LP Club
The line itself makes no sense. The physics do not pan out, but I still dig that song.
POOPY DI SCOOP
5/10
Best Tracks: "No Mistakes", "Ghost Town" ft. PARTYNEXTDOOR, "Violent Crimes"
Worst Track: "I Thought About Killing You"
Disagree with the score, heavily. Good video though
That Philly D shirt tho.
I can't wait for the Kids See Ghosts review.
Ayyyeeeee is that a Philip Defranco shirt? :D
Wasn't this supposed to be called "love everyone" or something? When/why was it changed?
TurboGrafx16, So Help Me God, Good Ass Job, Winter-Spring-Summer-Fall. A lot of Kanye's working titles are lost to time.
To answer your question, I don't know why the change but the album was assumed to be titled "Love Everyone" right up until release.
Thank you mark thank you
1:11 the liberal bias is strong with this one
this is probably one of the smartest reviews of ye i seen.. a deep analysis of kanyes writing and mental state
5/10 too rushed IGN
I was actually with you on some points until you trashed 070 shake, she killed it on ye and on daytona. also thinking kanye's talking about killing kim lmao, not to mention that its in rather bad taste..
Bro when are you going to review twin fantasy. Been waiting for so long
To all of you hating this review, it's just Mark's opinion, and his opinion has just enough value as myself and yours..
Also using his past reviews isn't a good argument. If he likes Iggy Azalea he has every right and reason too.
I agree with you so much on this!
SPECTRUM PULSE PLAYS SUPER SMASH BROS CONFIRMED GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC AND VIDEOGAMES
Won’t lie the intro is really funny to me
Finally. A review that I agree with
if r/music was a person
Are you gonna do Rose and testing?
Finally a score for this album that i can agree with
I feel like this album never stood a chance with you. You're a fair reviewer, but it seems like there was no separating Kanye the man and Kanye the artist here. This is definitely not in the upper echelon of his catalog and I cannot understand this receiving 9's and 10's, but there were a lot of redeeming qualities.
Everyone vote for Jessie J's Rose on Patreon please! Mark wants it too!
Wow this is divisise.I think this is a 7 and I feel like it is probably my 2nd least favourite kanye album
Parental guidance is recommended for young viewers
I respect your opinion but i strongly disagree this shit good af
This is honestly an extremely fair review that I absolutely agree here Mark. I happen to be a HUGE fan of Mr. West and this album is easily is most underwhelming and painfully mediocre record to date.
Pastey whiteboi that's not Melon reviews a rap album...
Jk. That thing you do with your hand bothers me though. The whiffing thing
I feel like small time reviewers such as yourself actually criticize and dissect this album, it's sounds and themes. fantano also did a pretty good job
Your score is very fair and reasonable but honestly i feel like you just don't like Kanye as an individual, so regardless the score wouldnt have been high anyways loooooool
It was a pretty good I like it. And keep up the good work good review
What happened to the kid kudie calab album
coming on friday
Eric Douglas Supposed to be dropping a week after Ye came out, I think.
The album good I like it
I love you, Mark
This is such a weird album
That’s an odd way to spell 9.3
Spotted that shirt
Ya beautiful bastard
This album was sooo horrible. 5/10 for a 7 track EP. I know my math is off, but it should be like 2/10 because you shouldn't really be failing with 7 songs. I hate this album so much. Ugh.
I React to Everything ! Could you please explain why the album was so awful?
The man formerly known as mousecop Like I'll answer someone who has trump as his pic 😂😂😂
I React to Everything ! So that discredits everything I say or ask😂 You say the albums should be a 2/10, I just wanna know why.
I React to Everything ! Could you please explain why the album was so awful?
I React to Everything ! Why is it horrible? Explain please.
You gave DAMN. a 7 but ye a 5? SMFH melon...
whaaaaaaaaaaat only a 5! damn
This man is correct. Y'all are cowards.
different opinions are being cowards?? ook
This has to be one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever seen. There is no correct opinion in most cases, especially when it comes to an album.
+The man formerly known as mousecop Tell that to the people who are hating on Mark for his opinion. It's all subjective and people here don't get that
Stuart Keating True, though I do think Mark had a bias going into this album. But simply hating on him because he didn’t give it an 8/10 like Fantano is very stupid.
You fucks it was a shitpost. Relax.
Sometimes Mark judge an artist based on his/her personal life and gives rating based on that.
Just sayin'.
I love you
Thought this album was pretty mediocre, TLOP too. Nowadays it seems Kanye just rides the waves of trends rather than innovating, which isn’t necessarily an issue, it’s just not done very well. Disappointing considering the production was incredible on DAYTONA.
Hating on Kanye is the new thing
7.5/10 easy

yeezus and 808´s are his best imo.
Ye is the immature 4:44
Yeah no way you're surviving the Kanye mob
From the look of it, the Kanye mob has nothing on the Sean Mendez mob.
5/10??? More like a 2/10 the album was trash.
