when i saw the movie, i never realized they were LITERALLY BREAKING THROUGH REALITY since i was an idiot, i thought the bg just turned into a visual flare to make the fight look cooler, and when they got to a new planet, i understood it as "oh, the visual flare is gone now, cool", as soon as i found out, i loved the fight even more
Yeah actually the art direction in this movie is really good, everything there is for a purpose... That, the fight was so high level and they're so strong that indeed they broke through reality

Goku and Vegeta have never cared about their dead parents in adulthood and we have known this since DBZ. Even on Namek they didn't fight Freeza to get revenge for their dead parents and it was the same in Resurrection F, so they were never going to get back at Freeza for this. Besides that Broly was being used by his dad to get revenge on Vegeta, so this scenario was never possible because Broly was just too enraged to give a damn and then he goes completely bonkers in SS after his father's death, so they had no choice but to either fight or flee.

How am I just realized this?? Now that I think about it wow this scene is dark with context
Goku and Vegeta have never cared about their dead parents in adulthood and we have known this since DBZ. Even on Namek they didn't fight Freeza to get revenge for their dead parents and it was the same in Resurrection F, so they were never going to get back at Freeza for this. Besides that Broly was being used by his dad to get revenge on Vegeta, so this scenario was never possible because Broly was just too enraged to give a damn and then he goes completely bonkers in SS after his father's death, so they had no choice but to either fight or flee.
