  • On Nov 15th, 2012, we headed out on a Desert Sea Divers boat (Fav 5) for a day of diving. We encountered a pod of Risso's dolphin (Grampus griseus) before arriving at the first dive site, the Cable Wreck. Risso's Dolphins are about twice the size of common dolphins, but lack the pointy snout of what you're used to seeing on dolphins. The boat Captain said he had never encountered them before, a good omen for the start of the day.
There is cable littered all around this wreck site and thus the name, "Cable Wreck." Visibility was great, 60 ft+, and the water was 86° F even at 101 fsw. The highlight was the sighting of a 6-7 ft nurse shark off in the distance, my first real shark.
