  • This is the full installation video for the M Sport style front bumper conversion from Pro Auto Motion.
    This really is a fantastic visual upgrade for those of us with the luxury or sport line trim packages, that want the more aggressive look of the M Sport line. While I love my car, I never have been enchanted by the bumper package, so really looked forward to making this change. This adds a more aggressive, shark like look that is in like with the BMW legacy, especially of the 7-80s 6 series, that are called "sharks". The other thing I will watch closely, is just from pure design, I can easily imagine I will have better airflow into my intercooler. I am going to watch FMIC temps closely, to see if I have any improved performance from my Active Autowerke intercooler.
    The install is really simple honestly and is more time consuming than anything else. That also calls out the savings of doing this work yourself, where a shop is going to charge you 4+ hours of time for simple labor. As long as you have a few simple tools and time there is no reason not to do the work yourself.
    Lastly, if you look the bumper over really closely, you may be able to skip the fitment stage that I show first. That way, you are only taking your original bumper off once, when you have the new one back and painted. I wanted to show though the entire process, so it would be clear even if you dont have to follow all the steps.

    dang this thing was detailed, but the part i was actually watching it for wasn't as detailed as the rest haha
    i took off my bumper to install my splitter a year or so ago. Could NOT get the bumper back on (me and three others tried) - had to end up taking it to a body shop to have them put it back on. They didnt secure the splitter enough in the center (not sure why) so it came off. was going to try and put it back on, but scared to death to take the bumper off again in fear that i wont get it back on haha
    thumbs up and subbed!

    Stefan, my wife's F32 has the Sport Line front-end with closed fog-lamp bezels. I was thinking about removing the starboard(passenger-side) bezel and moldings it with drilled 1/2" holes and backing the holes with 1/16" fine stainless micromesh in order to facilitate greater air-flow to the oilcooler in hopes of lower operating temp. Please note that I have already installed the Mosselman oil thermostat. My question is: Can the lower fog light bezels be removed with less effort/hassle of removing the whole darn bumper?! My Bentley manual provides no guidance for such limited access. What are your thoughts since you have performed this kind of "body-work"?

      Check out my video about zunsport screens for exterior screens.. but if you have to remove interior pieces, sadly the bumper cover has to come off.

    I think you could put some masking tape on the car wings to prevent the bumper scratching the paintwork when the sides are unclipped, and a bed sheet or something on the floor to prevent scratching too, this is more important if you are refitting the same bumper as I did, when replacing a broken lower grille

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  5 років тому +1

      Absolutely great suggestions, and doubly important if you are pulling it for repair and putting it back.

      I own a 2016 435i with the M performance trim. I would like to remove the bumper and have it refinished due to the usual road damage. I live in the Reno Nevada area and have wildly different estimates for paint work. From 500 to 1000 dollars. I was curious if this was just a regional thing or if the locals were taking advantage of the situation. That’s why I was curious about the amount you agreed to pay for this.

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  6 років тому

      Totally makes sense.. If you can take the bumper to them, you could cut out the labor of that part which would save you that at least. It also depends on repair or refinish on the bumper too?

      I actually wont use this adhesive again. I REALLY struggled to get it to dry and be as strong as the body shop said it would be. I did the rear bumper for a friend and used double sided 3M adhesive I had instead. It worked much better and I will be doing and documenting both side skirts and rear bumper on my car asap. It's the grey thin double sided 3M adhesive tape.

    Great video !
    i see you left out the crossbar and didnt place the m sport deformation elements L & R and the lower bumper mount crossbar.
    - Deformation element left 51118051189
    - Deformation element right 51118051190
    - Mount, bumper, front, lower 51648054575
    does that give any problems of bumper hanging or mounting?

    does this fit on a 2014 428i?

    • @BMWDIYGuy

      Maybe, but I cannot say for certain. Easy enough, just check with Kies Motorsports on fitment and they can hook you up if it does.. which it probably does.

      I got estimates from $300 to a ridiculous $1200 for painting the bumper.

    Where can I get the sport air vents?

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  4 роки тому +1

      The brake ducts? These came with the kit. If you need just the ducts you could use realoem.com and look up the parts.

    Okay so serious question! I’m looking to convert my standard bumper to the Msport one and every keeps saying (Legit BODYSHOPS) keep saying NO AFTERMARKET PIECES FOR YOUR CAR! Went to get the bumper priced by BMW it was literally 3 times the price of other bumpers. Saw great bumpers with (some with warranty) mybimmerparts.com bmwsouthatlanta.com kiesmotorsports.com I have a 2016 428i xdrive.
    What do you think?
    1a. How do you feel about aftermarket body parts?
    1b. Would you trust these sites?
    2. Will the bumper fit the car perfectly (if taken to body shop)
    3. Will it void my warranty or will BMW even notice it?
    Thanks a lot man, really appreciate it!

      So interesting comment from bodyshops.. no clue of why they would say that, but ok. *shrug*
      1.a - My car is now has the full msport kit from Kies, so I think its just fine and you literally cant tell the difference. IMHO the parts are identical, and NOT 3x the cost.
      1.b - I have worked with Kies extensively, trust them and the owner Bryan completely.
      2. Yes, and did the install myself obviously. You can too with basic tools and save yourself that expense.
      3. Cannot and will not void your warranty. There is actually a law in the US that prevents that explicitly.. the only time an aftermarket part can cause issues is if the dealership can PROVE it is the source of whatever problem you have with the car. Most common place for this is taking a "tuned" car into the dealership while under warranty as they can complain you are messing with the DME. THAT is a dice roll.. exterior components not so much.

      BMW DIY Guy thanks a lot man! This was really good information. I ended up going with the Kies motorsports part. It’s the same and cheaper.
      Also anywhere you recommend getting a nice front lip from? And Not so expensive?

    A video for DIY, I would imagine in there you show how you do it step by step and not just do it behind the camera and later explain how you did it. This didn't help here. Though appreciate the effort you put there..
