That pole is only good for Sunfish also known as Brim, you usually use crickets and you don't cast it, you just reach out there and set it down and wait with a bobber. You don't have to jerk and set the hook you just lift the fish up out of the water.

I suggest wrapping a stronger line around the pole and then through the eye and adding a 4 lbs lead to the end. Just had one of my best days trout fishing yesterday, even the fight was more fun!
