I have the 16in model. It doesn't slice through wood, it grunts through it one tooth at a time with low chain speed. That makes it rough running. You get used to it. When I tried another model with high speed chain, I thought "this is what a chainsaw should feel like". Don't get me wrong, it does a great job with lots of power, but it feels like its beating the wood instead of cutting it. I can tell this top handle has the speed I wish the 16" had. When you have big chips flying back like that, you know you're getting some serious work done.
Great video... Its nice to see that Milwaukee is using an actual traditional bar nut on the side cover. So many of these battery saws use a chinsy "tool-less" plastic bar nut clamp and they all will fail eventually as they are plastic molded around a nut. Unfortunately, Husqvarna, DeWalt and others have gone down that path probably due to marketing pressure to claim to have a tool-less adjuster whoohoo!! I think you are incorrect on the chain pitch. Milwaukee's website lists 0.325 p x 0.043 which is an extremely odd size. I doubt that any small engine shops are going to have that in bulk and that leaves you to buy from Milwaukee 49-16-2744 at $30 ea. ouch!!
Just got mine a couple of hours ago and love it already, so quite compered to 2 stroke and no starting required, just press the trigger and cut and stop if you need to hear if the ranger is coming 😂😅
I've got this saw only used it a few times, it definitely is a beast. The second time I used it I wore the 8ah battery down maybe half way and it wouldnt start back up and made a clicking noise but a few minutes later got going again. The third time I ises it the chain got loose so I stopped and noticed the tool was gone, so I guess that thing doesn't lock in to well.
That’s a very nice top handle saw I must say! If I was on the M18 platform it would definitely be joining the arsenal. I’ll just have to settle for my now 8” M12 pruning hatchet and Greenworks Pro 60v 20” beast of a chainsaw to handle my cutting needs! That M18 top handle is wickedly good though from watching you slice and dice them trees! Looking forward to that M18 top handle vs the 16” M18 saw…yeah!
Makita chainsaw only have chainspeed no torque at all, the 40v seem better tho i saw a review on both at the same time from wasabi channel the milwaukee didn't always stall compared to the makita .
I watched a good amount of reviews on this saw as it has peaked my interest but the one thing I haven’t seen talked about is the trigger. Is it variable speed or is it like the hedge trimmer and it’s full speed once activated.
Is it 3/8 low profile chain? I just got the 12” version of this saw and it’s .325 low profile. I’m looking for a 3/8 low profile sprocket to convert since no one makes .325 low pro full chisel chain.

Great video! I had the M18 hatchet with 8" bar and returned it. The chain speed is so slow that it was very grabby even with the full house (cutter on every link) chain and using the top side of the bar was borderline dangerous. I found that there's a reason that the other pruning saws from other companies have the cover over the top of the bar. I've already pre-ordered the 14" version of the M18 top handle saw, so now I'm just waiting on them to become available to the general public. One quick note on batteries - the 6.0 HO battery puts out more power than the 8.0 HO battery due to the 21700 cells in the 6.0 being higher discharge rate but lower capacity than the 8.0 cells. That's why the 6.0 HO battery and the 8.0 HO battery are the same size and weight. The 6.0 HO battery has the same cells as the 12.0 HO. That means the highest performance will come from the 6.0 HO and 12.0 HO batteries. I'm planning on having the 6.0 HO battery in my saw when I'm up in a tree with it hanging on my saddle unless I'm doing a lot of bigger cuts. With that battery, the weight should be about the same as the Husqvarna T435 gas top handle saw (counting the 14" bar and chain) that I've been using.
The 6.0 Ah battery got very, very hot when testing it. I made 8 cuts on the smaller ash and the battery was at 50% and hot to the touch. The 8 faired better from a heat perspective and the 12 is where I would be.
@@WorkshopAddict - Were you using the newer 6.0 high output battery (48-11-1865) that uses 21700 cells or the older M18 6.0 battery (48-11-1860) that uses the 18650 cells? The newer 6.0 HO battery with the 21700 cells should run much cooler (Milwaukee says 50% cooler) and shouldn't have gotten so hot. I'd expect the older style with the 18650 cells to get hot in that saw if that's what you were using. If you were using one of the newer 6.0 HO batteries, you may want to check it in a different high drain tool to see if there's a problem with the battery. I don't have my chainsaw yet to test with, but my 6.0 HO batteries with the 21700 cells haven't gotten hot when I've drained them quickly with the blower, circular saw, trimmer, or miter saw.
The milwaukee m18 hatch isn't made for big stuff it's made to prone that's it. For that job it's perfect as a arborist my self I use it alot it's not made to be a speed demon!
I forgot I have that small makita. There is no comparison in hardwood. Maybe in softwood they would look close. I don't even use the makita it is so slow.
It's the same motor that is on 16 in saw anytime you put a smaller chain and bar on a saw you can cut faster put a 14 in on the dewalt and you will see
Not a knock on the Milwaukee, I just ordered one but I am going to have to see for myself if it’ll out cut an MS200 or a 201T. I’ve run those saws for years and I’ve been told every year that there’s something out there that’s better and every year it doesn’t happen
No, but I went at the review like this so I could show the power of this saw. It was surprising to use it and its speed. So, I decided to push it more than most arborists would so they can see that this will do more than what they need. It is hard to show people the power of a saw without a small comparison because all wood is different.
@Zylent This will cut logs. You seen me do it in this video. But being a top handle, it is not the best suited for just cutting logs for firewood. The Milwaukee m18 16" would be more ergonomic for cutting logs. I do not use my stihl 261 for cutting logs. I cut firewood with a stihl 661. So it is hard for me to answer your question. I don't know how large of logs you are cutting.
BUT… overheating. My Milwaukee chainsaw and string trimmer overheat and I have to stop working, even in the winter. These are good for homeowners that are not under time constraints to finish the job right away. My gas equipment runs all day.
This is very true, my Milwaukee table saw is a pain to run in the cold and the heat. The 12ah batteries just shut down. I know it's saving them from self destruction, but wow is it annoying.
@@danlux4954 yes I cut up several large fir trees at a time. Ideally I need it to at least run for 2 hours straight. I might get 20 minutes out of my 12 amp battery if I’m lucky. I’m hoping their new 15 amp batteries have better cooling technology.
You should know: the Milwaukee batteries will not take a charge and require an involved fix that's beyond what most consumers are prepared to so own their own. I'll not detail the problem as the internet has an extensive records of the problem where users must open the batteries and charge, or balance, the internals so that they will take a charge. This kind of error is unacceptable, or course, and regardless of how well the tool works if the battery gives this much trouble it's wise to avoid Milwaukee entirely. Their customer service tells me I can print free shipping returns labels via their website, as long as the battery is within warranty (I think this was one or two years). There needs to be more focus on how well these batteries hold up, because replacing them is very expensive.
I don't think you made a fair comparison. You just let the saws 'float' through the log under their own weight. I can't say from personal experience; but from what I've seen; the Dewalt is a high torque saw; meant to be leaned on; which you didn't do.

Are you bending your cut? I’ve noticed with these narrow kerf battery saws that you can’t cheat the kerf and bend. You have to cut straight and true. Also cutting from the side where the branch weighs down and pinches the bar is way less forgiving with these electric narrow kerf saws. I’m all for the idea but I’m not liking them yet. Also wish chain manufactures would make full chisel low profile .043 non safety bumper chain to fully see what these saws can do.

Not playing any games either. I will backup what you were saying about the batteries tho in a big tree which I want after it will literally drink the smaller waukee batteries down stupid fast, I’m gonna have to break down now and buy a couple of 8’s or a 12 or something so basically another 400.00 in batteries who can’t enjoy that after dropping 350 on the saw but who cares it’s just pesos 🎉

Perfect for arborist, no exhaust fumes to breath in while suspended high in the trees or in a bucket truck.
It will be slightly heavier than what they are used to, but it will be worth the weight.
Run it against the Makita 18v X2 36v LXT or the 40v XGT. They are head of the game 💪🏽

I really wouldn't expect this saw to perform any differently than the existing 2727 M18 saw as it uses the same motor and controller.
It’s pulling a smaller chain on a shorter bar. It’s going to have a higher rpm
I doubt the motor is the same as this says compare to 35cc the 16” says compare to 50cc gas

False the 16 inch rear handle runs at 5500rpms this runs at 7700rpms they use a different motor not the same.

I have never run those saws, but you can see how it compared to a ms262cm. That saw rocked Milwaukees world. No comparison.

Like I said; I was basing my comment on other reviews I saw on the Dewalt. I have no 'hands on' experience.
Not to bad give it another 5 years they will be close to petrol chain saws. Nothing beats the sound of 2 stroke though.
