I work under the Research Assistant umbrella, but my official role is serving as a Policy, System and Environment Leader through schools to support and effect change through nutrition and physical activity. While I can work from home majority of the times, I don’t have a set schedule and have to attend trainings and conferences and may not find out about in person work tasks until the day before, so I have to juggle that with school and it can be pretty overwhelming. I appreciate watching your videos and your honesty and advice which helps me to think more about how I can make changes that will be beneficial and even get prepared for future classes!

      Aww, thank you and thank you for watching! I am in a full-time, accelerated BSN program. Classes are eight weeks, so every eight weeks my schedule changes. There have been times throughout the program where I only have to go to campus one night a week, and then I have clinical one day a week on the weekend also. There have been times during the program where I have had to go to campus four nights a week. So it can honestly vary!

    • @theluckienurse

      A fellow Marylander! :)
      It depends on when you are getting to campus… Frederick is probably about 45 to 50 minutes away from Tysons corner. But if you are heading there during rush-hour traffic first thing in the morning or in the afternoon, it would probably take you about an hour and a half on average (on a good day) to get to school.

    • @theluckienurse

      Hey! I would advise not working at all if it is an option. Or work part time at first and see how you manage it before going full time. I’ve now worked both from home and from an office being in school and it honestly depends on the job and your employer. My experience working from home was very difficult for school. Working in an office now is better for me, and I know of people who are the opposite

    • @theluckienurse
      @theluckienurse  Рік тому

      Hey, no I do not have those… Earlier in the program, we would have labs for classes like anatomy and physiology and biology. And then once we started our nursing classes, we had labs where we learned clinical skills. But once we started going to the hospital for clinical, those labs were eliminated. So, clinical basically replaced the labs that we were having. I hope that answers your question!

    Question how do you fit in sleep and do you work 10 hour shifts or 8 hour shifts at work ?

    • @theluckienurse
      @theluckienurse  Рік тому

      Hey! So I didn’t/ don’t have shifts for my job (I recently started a new job about a month and a half ago). I was in a salary position, so I was suppose to be working 8 hours a day, but would often work 10-12. With salary positions, a lot of companies over work you since you don’t get paid by the hour and don’t get overtime pay. Now, with my new job, I have set boundaries and usually work no more than 8 hours a day.
      And I am better about sleep now. I just prioritize it. There have been times in nursing school where I would get an average of 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Now I try to make sure I’m in bed and not doing any work or school work by 10pm every night!

      So I can’t speak too much about having kids while doing a nursing program because I’m not a mother… But there were quite a few women in my cohort who were moms and also worked. I even had a couple of women in my cohort who got pregnant during the program, delivered their baby, and kept going without missing a single day of class. It is absolutely not easy and I have no idea how they did it, but it is possible if you are determined.
