Sam, I'd love to see a shoot out between the 98, the 04, and 08, and the fourth gen. I think it would take some work, but I think it would make a great video. 12 valve vs 5.9 CR vs 6.7 CR vs 6.7 CR auto.
KDP, pump timing and gov springs...first thing I do to my 12 valves..some get fuel and air mods..but those first 3 things wakes them up for sure..glad to see your loyalty to the old girl !
It's not a lack of power issue Sam,, Your just kind enough to pull at a speed where all us truck guys can watch the "Fine Old Girl" roll past !! Really Appreciate ya taking the time & effort to make video's worth watchin' ! Don't let up !
Never get tired of these old Cummins. I'm currently driving big rigs, but I always love downsizing when I get some hometime. Currently looking for excuses to haul with my 2nd Gen when I get off for Christmas. 😅
Common rails do have more power but 12 valve’s sound so nice! Throw the exhaust brake on it turn the pump up and it should still pull what ever you need! Not always how fast you get there but how you look doing it! Still killing it in your videos! Please keep it coming!
Looks are very important, so is sound.....sounds awesome, looks even better. The bumper with the lights and winch really sets It off. Thanks for sharing Sam👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I would love to see how your dad's silver dually pulls the diamond C! Everytime you show a glimpse of that truck in a video, it makes me want one! Good Channel Sam! Keep it up..👍🇺🇸
Thanks for the videos and the information. I used it . This was a learning experience, not a cheap deal as I heard from some guys . But I now have what I wanted . As far a power yea mine does the job but is nowhere as powerful as a common rail engine, not that I care , it does not give any problems so far lol
The 04 vs the 98 would be a good video I think. Those are going to be what a guy watching your channel to just get started into the game is going to end up, and it would be good to see the positives and negatives of each truck. Serviceability, simplicity, power, towing, MPG, ease of modding, NV vs G56, etc. tow the same load with each truck on the same route so if a guy was going to buy one of these and start hauling he’d have a feel for what he’s working with 🤙
Own an 01 24v Ive found there safe and slow up to 18k lbs But i recommend getting soem guages popping in some 80-125 hp injectors and other goodies The 24v is closer to the commen rail in power and the last year was 15k lbs towing for 2nd gens lmao underated to say the least The 01\02 years can swap to third gen brakes which makes it stop like a dime
Fun fact the 98.5-02 years the only difference between 3500 and 2500 is dually rear and 1000 lbs higher gvwr there the same truck axles and everything Those over load springs came on the camper package which made it the same supension as the 3500
Love my 12v, first cummins i ever Owned, was finally able to get one, 205k mules for 6k. She's in rough shape cosmetically but mechanically is perfect. Ill probably hot shot it on the side after i get it setup.
Good to see the old 98 working. So it takes you a little longer to get there and back but it does look damn good doing it. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.
Sweet 12 Valve. I wish I had a G56 in my 12 Valve. It would tow so much better with 6 speed than 4 speed auto that i have. Lots of power with major upgrades and built trans, but would be a dream with a G56. It's about 700 hp with lots of fuel and compound set up. Runs cool with compounds. Would never tow again a 5.9 period without a compound set up. I dropped 400F EGTs with compound set up alone (60 psi boost and 1400F max EGTs now).
In my opinion 12v is the best candidate for upgrades in power. It takes a bit on these old pos dodge trucks, but with the right turbo and radiator setup you'll be making 300-350 hp 850-900 tq with less egt and coolant temp. At those levels almost makes the 5 speed adequate
I remember the days when 12V’s were new and every guy who owned one would brag how well they towed. Those were stock trucks as well... lol compared to new ones today they would feel gutless.. still sound great though
still have to love a 12 valve. i say you do a comparison on all the trucks towing the same load or comparable to the weight limit to the specific truck.
Lol 😝 I see and talk with guys pulling with old 7.3 Ford diesel, and talking about how great that old technology is, then they are absolute dogs in comparison to a newer 6.7 ford or ram and Duramax They’re great for weekend warriors, but the older stuff is not engineered like a modern day truck
I’d like to see a comparison. Since you’ve been doing all these 12v projects. It’s got me thinking, I had a opportunity to buy a 97 14 years ago and didn’t. So now I’m considering buying one with the mansmission. Not sure if I’d keep my 2014 with some stuff MIA. Some real world comparisons would be nice. I don’t really tow more then 8k behind my current setup. Thanks for the great videos and bad ideas!!
I am sorry I have not seen a stock common rail even come close to my 12 valve. I tow 20000 regularly and have been offered a lot of money for my truck because the way it pulls. Oh yeah it's an automatic.
@@VBELTandSON I haul a 14000 gross trailer gooseneck. And there has been a lot done to it powerdriven diesel has help a lot with power and fuel economy and there towing compound's are the cat's meow. And I still don't have $20000 in it.
I run a 97 f350 7.3ps which is 9k empty and tow a 13k trl and i go to my tractor show and i have a bigger hill that pulls me down good. I wanna get new 160cc 30% injectors and a new turbo and that should wake my truck up. The injectors will be first then turbo with pyro
It will happen . Your content is some of the best on UA-cam! Hopefully next time you do a jacket give away I'll win . Anyways I've learned alot about my 12 valve and my 05 cr from your videos. Keep the bad ass vids coming!
V-BELT and SON That would be awesome . I’m Looking for a dually 3500 Want to put a dump Bed or flat bed combo on it and use for my tractor business I do tons of weed abatement fire brakes spring seems to be coming early down here In SoCal. I only know what you’ve showed so I’m A rookie but i fix everything snd Service my Own vehicles any advice would be great 👍🏼 Thanks again love the channel ....
Always eanted a 5.9 cummins...they are killers. I got an offer on a Ford f350 IDI that runs good for a price you wouldnt believe. For now I'll take it.
My stock 07 srw 3500 with 6.7 and 6 speed was a dog in the mountains pulling 10k. My 02 dually 3500 with built auto and quadzilla is a work horse. Out pulls the 07 hands down. Of course that's with 7k in upgrades. Stock to stock the 07 wins easily
Hate to say it but of course the 08 tows better. Its simply more truck. Plus the 08 looks to be a 4500 or 5500. Different gearing, makes a world of difference.
The old trucks sure are nice, but they sure cant keep up with new technology!! Everyone including myself complains about california sometimes but its not that bad! Thse new trucks with all the emmisions stuff will still outpull an Old truck!!
well lets see I took my fuel plate made a zero out of it turned the star wheel change the washers on the tension spring adjusted the timing to 18 degrees and pull 17k with no problem and it cost me nothing. every truck you get you put lots of money in them. so for less than a grand you could put 191 DV's in and change the injectors with them set to 300bar pop pressure and believe me it will pull just as good as a CR truck or better and with that manual tranny u have in it good for ever.
That would be a trip if this truck pulled harder than my 5500. Not going to do it on stock air that’s for sure. I believe you and I have a very different definition of “it pulls it with no problem”
I build my 96 with 4k gsk fluiddampr 500$ well spent afc live and some arp stuff valve springs and the truck is retardedly strong . dont doubt the 12 valve at all so much more potential than u can imagine

Sweet truck there brother. 12 valve with a 6 speed is just plain awesome
PD Diesel Power love your channel man!
Love your channel
All a six does is split the 3-4th of the 5 speed. Not needed if you know how to shift
I love that the smog stuff fell off and so did the automatic transmission. Lol God bless
There never was smog stuff, it’s a 12V 😂
It’s always fun towing with an older truck every once in a while. Cool video Sam
Sam, I'd love to see a shoot out between the 98, the 04, and 08, and the fourth gen. I think it would take some work, but I think it would make a great video. 12 valve vs 5.9 CR vs 6.7 CR vs 6.7 CR auto.

You need to put a 12 valve 6spd in the old Ford high boy
Great video! I’ll always take my 12 valve over a new lol even if they pull better

Only thing sexier is a 1st gen with a 6 speed. Your truck is beautifully done
Deleted 6.7 kills everything. Still want to see the comparison. 👍🏻💪🏻
Always great to see a classic especially towing, stand out from the crowd 👍

It’s awesome putting the 12Valve to work nothing sounds better than that.
I didn't realize 12v's had the first "autostick" setup that dodge made. 😂😂 Nice truck!
I remember the day if you were pulling with a new 12 valve you thought you were in high cotton crazy how far these diesel rigs have come.
New diesels never be around as long as these old girls
Love ya work mate.. Killer chanel,,, keep up the good content.. Cheers brother from Australia ❤👌
Nice job!!!! Always good to take care of the family!!!!
It would help your truck alot to ditch the egr intake horn for a regular one. It's crazy how restrictive they are
That’s on the list of stuff I’ll be getting next week or so
Good to see the old 98 working. So it takes you a little longer to get there and back but it does look damn good doing it. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.
Someone needs to build a 5500 with a 12 valve thats got the sauce of your 08.....
Dam can’t beat the sound of a old ford she sounded killer
Great video as always thank for sharing tell Taylor she can talk some have a great day and stay safe out there
Do a proper towing build on that beauty. Twin turbskies, upgraded brakes and suspension, etc.
Maybe if I win the lottery lol
Sweet 12 Valve. I wish I had a G56 in my 12 Valve. It would tow so much better with 6 speed than 4 speed auto that i have. Run a nv 5600 speed G56 is junk I went through 7 of them in my 6.7 and my 6 7 was not built it was turned up just a little bit
I had a Diamond c commercial while watching this
Great looking setup 😬💪🏻 not the fastest for sure but she gets it done ✅
12 valves are the best

Tows good. Not bad for an old dog. Keeper running.
I remember the days when 12V’s were new and every guy who owned one would brag how well they towed. Those were stock trucks as well... lol compared to new ones today they would feel gutless.. still sound great though
And they DID tow great, considering the alternative was, what, a 454 or 460 gas?
still have to love a 12 valve. i say you do a comparison on all the trucks towing the same load or comparable to the weight limit to the specific truck.
old girl needs compounds and tuning and she will tow like a dream!

That's the biggest downfall of the 12 valves... cooling capacity. But not hard, or expensive, to get them to a very reliable 1000 ft-lbs of torque
Tow mirrors Hee Hee it tell the kids there only for towing. Thank You Awesome Channel
Love the bumper on the 12v 😎👌 You should def do a comparison video 👍
I am sorry I have not seen a stock common rail even come close to my 12 valve. I tow 20000 regularly and have been offered a lot of money for my truck because the way it pulls. Oh yeah it's an automatic.

Old rigs can still hang 👊💪
My 94 12V with some fuel mods and timing at 18 will break the tires loose in 3rd gear. I'm just out of air at this point... K27 is inbound.
The sound of yer 12 value alone is better then music you sometimes play
I can agree. Good music is harder to find than 12 valve
I like what yer doin you keep me entertained on a rainy day
you must have hit a really big bump to have the smog stuff and the automatic fall out.
It's a dodge so you are probably right.
Ever think of welding a platform on the neck of your gooseneck trailer ? Double your hauling and carrying capabilities on the gooseneck trailer .
I think a comparison would be neat to see
How have you not blown up to 500k subs yet is beyond me.
That would be awesome! I’ll keep pushing see if it can can happen someday 🤘🏻

Well time for 8.3L Cummins delivery valves injectors and turbo
Wow! I didn't know G56, that's badass man!
I call flipping the tow mirrors “moosing” lol.
Trailer brake lights not working on the R/H side @ 1.32 going down the driveway
Sam do you have to
Smog that truck ? I was reading 97 and older no Smog 98 newer yes need smog ?? Good to see the 12 valve working !

Hard to say.

Was that your dads gray 94 at the house next door where you were spreading gravel?
Get some compounds and fuel in that 12valve. Still won't stop great but will be a lot more fun
You might get there slow, but you 'will' get there. Delays due to breakdowns suck.
It's weird, it's like trucks got more advanced over time. Hmmm....
Funny how ppl don’t like to admit that. That’s the weird part
I don't know if you have said in a previous video but what clutch are you running in your g56 trucks
Dual disk South bend in the other two and single valair in the red truck

Haha reason why it got replaced with a dodge. Bad fuel mileage and Cummins pulls way harder lol but still fun truck
My 02 dodge has 355.gears in a dana 70 rear end how would you rate that for towing
Do a comparison please

Whats the gearing ratio on the truck?

Try towing that much with a 98 24valve on 35s. Need less to say it is in need of more turbos lol.
