I live in Morpeth; that fountain used to be slap-bang in the centre of the crossroads and 'bang' is an accurate word for it; it was a big cause of car crashes until it was moved several years ago! I've been enjoying these walks, seeing my beloved Northumberland through the eyes of a stranger who appreciates everything we have up here. Thank you :) ETA: the market is held in the market square again, but has moved about a bit.
Interesting to learn! I can imagine with the fairly narrow roads in Morpeth (especially around the Clock Tower) that it would be a challenge to navigate around the fountain! Good thing they moved it - although it's almost as if Morpeth had its own Arc de Triomphe with that in the centre of the crossroads :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos, Northumberland really is a spectacular county, and one of England's true hidden gems!
The Hollon Fountain was not a cross-roads. The A1 (both north and south bound lanes) ran to the north of it. It was necessary to turn off the A1 if travelling in either direction to go into the dead end of the New Market, where the bus station used to be, or to go past the Clock Tower and into Oldgate. Coming out of New Market or Oldgate involved a stop to get onto the A1, either to go North or South, at a point to the West of the Hollon Fountain. The road markings were extremely clear and any accidents must have been since the 1980s. I cannot recall any before then, but it is possible there was the odd one of which I am not aware.
It absolutely is! It may be the most sparsely populated county in England but even so it might be the most densely packed with gorgeous towns and scenery :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Currently staying in the court apartments, they are amazing! Thanks for the video and the historical facts - will be keeping them in mind as we walk around the town (in the rain).
Wow! Sounds like an impressive place to stay - and right on the doorstep of some of Morpeth's greatest history - which as I'm sure you know is all around the town, a great place even if it's raining a little :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much for your very kind words! I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the video and the captions - the history of Morpeth is certainly an interesting one, and I hope that I gave you a good flavour of what the town is all about :) Thank you for watching!
It's always interesting to learn more about places like this - Morpeth in particular is a really fascinating town, and a lovely one to be in as I'm sure you know well :) Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice video of the town. I enjoyed it. Great wonderful walks and history lessons. Beautiful and historical the town is. Hope to see more soon. Have a great day 😀
Thank you, and well done. If only, the days were made of 48 hours, I could show you the north of France ... in short. Thanks to your steps, I continue to discover, and to learn the history of your country. A last thank you for the moment filmed in slow motion of the churches. Professional fault! See you soon
I know the feeling! If only the days were 48 hours long, I could make more videos every day to show you too! I'd love to see the North of France if you ever do make a video - but I'm really glad to hear that you're enjoying these videos - it means a lot :) Thank you so much for watching!
Great video. I live in Morpeth and it’s nice to see others appreciate it. It’s also good to that you were factually accurate as I’ve now subscribed and will watch all your new stuff as a bit of a guide. All round excellent with a couple of comments: 1) The bloke on his phone at St James’ church was funny 2) Was it about 7am because I’ve never seen it so quiet, even though I appreciate it was Covid times?
In the 90s some rich relatives from down south came to celebrate my granny's 80th birthday and they rented the gatehouse for the week-end. We had a couple of great parties in there!
It is indeed! Full of history, some lovely sights and a very pleasant town centre atmosphere, I do love visiting Morpeth :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!
I did a hike up the river Wansbeck from Morpeth up to Bothel Castle recently, very very pleasant hike in the snow, shame I didn't have enough time to take in the town too as it looks nice with plenty of heritage
It is indeed! I love Morpeth and much of its impressive architecture - a lovely town to visit whatever the weather :) Thank you very much for watching - I hope you enjoyed the video!
I'm a Chadian origin girl from Saudi Arabia, and I've been living in Ashington for the last two & a half years. And I'm now considering to move to a nicer place in Northumberland. I'm kinda hesitant whether to move to Morpeth or Hexham. I watched your tours of both and I loved them... thanks for these amazing & informative vids. Please let me know if there's even nicer towns in this nice county!
That's a great shout! I've made a video in Redcar before too - you can check it out here if you'd like to see: ua-cam.com/video/-HWsDV4GJOo/v-deo.html Thank you so much for watching and for commenting - I really hope you enjoyed the video :)
Went to visit yesterday and gave up. I found it impossible to park my car anywhere as they have a disc parking system. You can't park without one and can't get one without parking.
Anyone else loves overcast weather and feels it makes some towns look exceptionally beautiful?

New for this video - I've been trialling more handheld filming over my normal bodycam style, please do tell me if you've got any thoughts about it!
Can I compliment you on the style of the video, the camera work was perfect and text amusing and interesting.

Alnwick or Warkworth & Amble. Hexham and Morpeth are nice too, both with easy access to Newcastle by train.
GREAT VIDEO KEEP THEM GOING AND STAY SAFE

A nice video. It seems extremely quiet. Was this early morning or late evening?
Went to visit yesterday and gave up. I found it impossible to park my car anywhere as they have a disc parking system. You can't park without one and can't get one without parking.
I love constant noise of traffic
Couldthe Birmingham University clocktower be one?
