Risa, you are the sweetest person. I am a hairstylist for 25 years and I am also disappointed that hairstylist were in your comments talking bad about colouring your hair at home. There is always a time in a place for at home touchups. I also think the colour quality of this product is probably way more high-quality than regular box dye and I always find you apologizing for things that you shouldn’t be apologizing for. I appreciate it that you acknowledge things, but don’t beat yourself up those of us that love you will always love you.❤

Look, There are people who want to save the money by doing their own touchups, and that's fine. It can't formulate for them, or add highlights, or cut their hair, if people want to save some money, then great. There are also people who are NEVER going to want to DIY, and look upon the salon experience as self-care and pampering. It MY job to do what they and L'Oreal technology cannot. I don't know what this color line can or can't do, but there's no knowing how well it will ever play with lighteners when they opt for a dimensional look, or want to change it up. The Redken 10 min pro color, for example, will NOT budge and WILL leave you with a "BLORANGE" band that is SO NOT CUTE on hairline highlights, later on, so consumers...be advised. My license isn't threatened by L'Oreal, once again, trying to undermine the pros of the industry. I guess they're better than some unknown company doing it. I would make sure my clients who use this product know I won't be guaranteeing and "re-doing" highlights that refuse to lift out the permanent color they combed on. Who knows? It may all be harmonious. Let's HOPE SO. That color correction $$$ is on them. Even with the $$, it's possible it won't lift out; not even with Schwartkopf's BLONDE ME. But this lady doesn't owe anyone anything. These beauty influencers are there to sell/recommend products, and pro's licensure doesn't cover DIY product knowledge. We're all just out there trying to make a living, right? Just know that hairdressers are people, too, and it takes more than a comb that squirts color to really know what you're doing. I can't wait to see the level 10's and highlifts. That should be interesting. I can see this being Ideal for the gal or guy who just has a solid color, never gets highlights or changes their color.

She is not threatened by my attempts at home to try to bridge. She guides me so I don’t make a mistake that will take a lot of work and money to repair. That’s why I’m loyal client. It just kills me that people are so nit-picky that the # of weeks of grey showing is important. The grey was showing, period! What difference does it make if it was 2 or 3 weeks?? I loved your excellent explanation about your honesty and integrity, Risa. Yes, the grey will show a lot sooner on darker hair. That's why at 74 I keep my hair blonde. Grey touch up every 12 weeks because the grey blends in. Yay! 😊 I will be like your grandma in my 90s!!

This is the 1st time hearing about this , I don't have Tik Tok or IG. Thank you for sharing. I'm 52 years old, I stopped doing highlights about 2 years ago, my hair grows so fast. I was going every 3- 4 weeks for root touch up, I only pay $70, thats 1/2 of what you pay, but we live an hour and a half from Billings, so apart from the exspense the time. So I started doing my own touch ups every 3 weeks, twice then I go to my stylist every 2 months. No matter if she does it, or I get my produsts at Sally's beauty supplies, Target or Walmart IT IS THE SAME RESULT my roots come back and need to be done at 3 weeks, if I stretch it to 4 I can't stand it. So Risa I know what you go through. I just asked my husband to get me this for Xmas, fingers crossed LOL. Thank you for sharing here on UTUBE. 😊

    • @rain3743

Yes, because hair grows. It really only becomes an issue when women want to change it up and get a dimensional / highlighted look. It doesn't necessarily become an issue, but we don't know what's in that color or how well it plays with lighteners. It's just an "unknown."

I SO appreciate you doing a video on home hair color. I just cannot afford the level of service that I used to do at a professional stylist and now my grays are growing in much more than years ago. I have been watching you for a very long time and your recommendations are GOLD. I will say that hair color at the drugstore has VASTLY improved from even 10 years ago. I started using it for touching up roots and then ventured out to kits that contain color and highlighting (all in one) and over time I have mastered it. It has saved me SO much money. Money I honestly didn't have. Now, I would recommend anyone that is going for a drastic overhaul or a complicated highlight to go a pro...but for roots...this is amazing. There are also some amazing root powders on the market to that I use around my face and along the front part. Totally fills in my thin spots and covers the grays. Never apologize. Your content is amazing!

I am 39 and have stubborn grey hair and I also am not ready to go grey. However it is so tedious to have to touch up every 3-4 weeks depending on how busy my job and personal life runs and if I feel I need to LOOK the part. However, this is not a product I would invest in as it is too costly even for those of us who don’t go to the salon. I simply buy box hair dye and split the amounts for two applications using a food scale for accuracy. Each cover up costs me between $3.50 to 7. Still in the convenience of my own home and time. Great review Lisa. As always very thorough. Merry Christmas 🎄

I really love your hair color, Risa - it’s very becoming on you! Your colorist does a dynamite job! I’m intrigued by that hair color device. I’m 58 and have been getting my hair colored (mainly blonde) for decades. After years of spending a fortune at the salon on coloring services, I decided that I had watched my hair professional go through the process enough times that I could do it myself. So, for the last four years, I’ve been coloring my own roots using salon quality color (like Redken), not box. Whenever I’ve wanted highlights or to have my hair cut, however, I’ve had my hair professional do it (I don’t mess with bleach or scissors). I, too, have gray hair around my hairline and also along my part and on my crown. I have a devil of a time trying to cover those hairline grays at the temples, and no matter what I do, they seem to be back after about two weeks. I don’t think it’s strictly regrowth, though - I think it’s because grays are just tougher to cover and maybe the color doesn’t fully do the job. One of your viewers mentioned the danger of covering up highlights when coloring your own hair, whether with box color or the device. When I color my roots, I prevent the color from messing up highlights or getting on my ends by coating that hair with conditioner to protect it.

I have the same issue with color penetrating those pesky gray temple hairs. I found on the internet that my cuticle isn't fullying opening to accept the color and I'm just coloring the shaft, which is why these pesky gray hairs reappear within 10days or sooner. What I do is put 20 volume developer on the temples and my part for 30min, then I mix up my color and developer at and apply on top of the 1st developer application and leave it for 60min. This really did help open the cuticles of the hair shaft, and now I tend to color 4-6wks versus every 2weeks. Hope this helps for you!

In my experience/opinion, when our gray starts coming in at a faster rate, I had to take my appts from 12, next 10wks, etc… point being, I’m now at 6wks for salon visits, is what it is, right 🤷‍♀️
In between visits when I’m getting the around the face grays showing up, I’ve found the root color sprays, powders, (whichever you prefer), work really good!!
I personally prefer gray away, (use both sprays & powders), but there’s so many choices out there, to each their own 🤷‍♀️

Hi Risa, this is the first time I'm watching your videos. I didn't see the short you mentioned, but I find you very genuine and sincere. I agree with you about how many hairdressers want their clients to visit more frequently, but it's become quite expensive to get your hair done every few weeks. Regarding the L’Oreal sonic device, I think it's a good alternative to box colours because it's easier to use, less stressful, saves time, and makes less mess.

Being a L’Oréal professional educator for advanced corrective coloring and corrective foiling. You did just fine. When coloring your “roots , regrowth, new growth “ different terms same thing. Formulation is doing more than 1 job..grey coverage and underlying pigment control. I could go much further into the details but you get the point. On your 6 week color touch up, your foiled hair can grab and drab out your highlights, temporarily. There are ways to avoid this but it is normal. Retouches need to be applied with great precision to not overlap past the line of demarcation or it will be a more severe and darker causing it to look like you have brown roots. As for the highlights looking darker, it’s just from the more porous hair grabbing the flat tone. When you rinse, do it fast with constant scrubbing at the roots until completely rinsed. I also tend to apply a deep conditioner before I rinse to help avoid the couple days of drab.

I'm only about 25% gray, so i do it every 6 weeks or so, and then just gloss the rest of my hair that doesn't need color. I'm a dark brunette though. So much great info, thank you!!! I just wanted to mention that I have colored my hair light ash blonde at home using box color (single process) for 30 years, so it is doable. I do the roots every 2-3 weeks and due to the frequency it never looks brassy. Everyone thinks I’m a natural blonde and stylists always think I’ve had it professionally done. Do NOT use box color for a full change of color, but once you get the color you want from a professional, you may be able to maintain it yourself at home and this device certainly looks handy.

There are so many different customers in the hair coloring world.
The unable to move their hands and arms to use that particular tool.
Those lacking a good sense of color.
      Those with nonfunctional eyes.
Those who just do not want to learn yet another tool and parts and make decisions.
So many seem annoyed with those prospective customers on a tight budget who need to look the part at job or in society, but refuse to pay a higher tier of their budget for a look. They forget they are judging people for doing something or ridiculing the person for not doing something.
Yes, my hair began silvering at age twelve very slowly.
Life has increased my silver rate.
The women in my family spent “the hair dye budget” on skin cancer treatments and prevention, so silver or salt and pepper happened with genetics.
I’ve been asked which dye and stylist I used for the stylish silver section of hair- genetic and the very disappointed look with my answer. 😂
I choose to spend my dye budget on my hobbies and not fade into “old age” which is really just what others have mental images of based on media and personal memories of women in their families.
I don’t know that I am more confident than you by my natural graying. I suspect that I just refuse to spend the money on that instead of other luxuries, instead. I also still see the original color more than the silver.
Now, I’m looking at texture products to give me more bounce and lift in baby fine hair. And the whole texture change with only one section going from a lifetime of barely wave to crazy curly.

I remembering reading about the L’Oreal hair coloring tool a couple of years ago when it was showcased at the CES show. It does look like a useful tool for people who are doing root touchups often and who may or may not be comfortable coloring their own hair at home.
I am constantly doing root touchups because my hair became wavy and porous when it turned gray. My hair also grows fast and does not hold on to color very well. No matter what brands or additives I’ve used, I am doing root touchups every 10 days or so. I also used to color my husband’s hair until this year and his hair never had problems holding on to hair color. So everyone is different, it is what it is. As to whether to go gray or not is a very personal decision. Thanks Risa for showing how to use the L’Oreal Colorsonic hair coloring too!

Hi Risa. I enjoy your videos very much. I don’t do a lot of comments but have to on this one. How you normally get your hair done at the salon is very similar to what I do. My grays grow faster sometimes than others. I actually just saw my stylist yesterday and decided to embrace my grays, partially because of the cost of covering them up. She added more highlights so the gray will blend in and I love it. I think that you would be just as beautiful if you ever decide to do something like that.

I dye my hair at home all the time. I found a fantastic hair dye and mixing two shades to get a perfect color. My roots grow like crazy and I need to cover them twice a month. And I personally don't care what hairstylists say unless I want to dramatically change my hair color.

Are you kidding me!! I love and adore you way too much. I admire you for making videos like this and I would listen to your advice on everything you try out. I would like to try that loreal colors once one day. I just haven't gotten a chance yet. Yes it is way too expensive to get a professional hairstylist to get your hair done and I don't really have time or money for it every month either. Just saying that you are a wonderful at what you do and just keep it up and don't stop being who you are. Thanks once again Risa. We love you!

Risa, my hair does the same. My hair looks just like yours after a couple weeks whether my colorist does my hair, or I do it myself. My colorist is super expensive but beyond amazing. I too, try to do some minor touchups in between because just my haircuts alone are $90 before tip so you can imagine how much my coloring is. I am going to purchase this item myself after watching you because I cannot stand the process of touching up my grays with box colors.

Risa I back you one hundred percent ❤ Ever since 4 years ago I've been coloring my own hair and I have my husband help me cut it with a Crea Clip to get a A-line bob. Seriously I think what stylists are charging these days is absolutely ridiculous! I have to laugh when they get their panties in a ruffle because a lot of us are figuring out how to color & cut our own hair. And do a good job too. I get prices have gone up for almost everything but I still feel SOME professional stylists are ripping the lips off people. Just saying 😌

Hi Risa - thanks for sharing this, I want to look into this device. As for comments - wow! Hairdressers should not say that - they don't know what people can or cannot afford, especially when you have to touch up so often - that's just not right. Also the comment about going grey - that is such a personal choice and just not a question or statement to say to another - you do you, that's it, that's all. You are the sweetest and kindest, love ya! So appreciate you 🥰🥰

Great explanation and it appears to be a great product. I have short hair and I do get many compliments on my style and color(s). I use Just for Men on the sides of my hair to keep that part darker around my face. I highlight my own hair on the upper half so that have a sort of ombre look all over. I think it’s flattering because of the comments I get. I’m 77 and don’t have enough grey or white to go natural. Anyway this device you demonstrated seems great for people to use. Thank you again for trying new things and sharing them with all of us 😍😉☺️😘

First of all, thank you for finally doing some independent coverage (i.e not seen in L'oreal ads) of this really groundbreaking home haircoloring device. Actually, I did see Christen Dominique, I think, in a short doing a promo for this as well, but you are my tried and true. (That's nothing against Christen Dominique, I quite like her as well). I don't see what the big deal is either about how many weeks root growth you had and I highly doubt that the new grey you see (that by the way, just so you know, was barely visible to me, you probably notice it more than everyone else) is the color fading. For $127 plus the color cartridge cost, I'm pretty confident L'oreal has included the same quality of salon professional color than whatever you get at the salon. I can't afford to go the salon and spend hundreds every 6 to 7 weeks as you were describing. So I DO box color my hair at home, and I do root touch ups about every 4 weeks. I actually happen to use L'oreal Feria box color, and I know pros say it's a don't, but I am starting to get greys at 44, and silly me, I also chose to go red, quite a bright red, and since I DON'T peroxide my natural hair (my natural color is a lighter ash brown), I just use the Feria box dye, my results after I've washed and dried my hair post coloring are pretty dark and a bit oddly toned, and it's not until several, several, SEVERAL washes later, when the original color result has faded, when my hair is the actual color I like, and by then, it's almost time to re-color. So I definitely CAN brush my hair, lol, and I for one do see the value of having an at-home "pro colorist" device as a happy medium between doing your hair at home with ZERO training like a colorist and risk hair remorse if you make a mistake and end up with a splotch of hair right at the roots that you missed and now you just look awkward (guilty as charged!) or spending exorbitant amounts of money at the salon. Great video, and thanks again Risa!

Omg I want this thing so badly! I absolutely hate the task of coloring my grays every 3-4 weeks. Hate it. I hate mixing the products, standing at the sink blah blah. Just the fact that thing gets multiple uses with one cartridge sells me! I never use an entire bottle of color so it goes to waste. I would love to just pick up that thing and touch up my hair when it’s time. I’m so getting it!
