With your fantastic help and direction Michael is becoming extremely proficient in the real golf swing of angular momentum golf. I believe few golf instructors know about this or exactly know how to teach it as you do. I really enjoy watching these top golf athletes in action, and how I continue to learn from you and them. I also struggle with getting my back elbow in the right position. I have at times have a flying elbow which causes me to come over the top.
The part about the hip bump and keeping the spine angle is a life changer 👍

2 yrs later i find this , ive been working on that outside the line takeaway that brings the club back fast left , trying to kill off a hook . Everywhere i look that takeaway is a no no but it just works for me . 👍

Ive tried so hard to fix this that ive developed a horrible habit of looking back at the club during my backswing causing an early hip turn and all the weight on my outside right heel...its horrible

Hey Pureimpact, a staple in Porzak Golf's teaching is keeping the hands and arms in front of the body's center(the chest). When the right elbow gets too high, it one goes beyond the bodies center. Another thing it does, is it throws off the timing and sequence. The body has stopped turning but the arms keep lifting, then the lower body starts while the arms are still going up, getting the arms stuck behind the body early in the transition. That leads to manipulation, stalling and needing to catch up the hands at impact. Hope that makes sense. We want to keep the arms connected to the bodies turn, and when the upper body stops turning so does the right elbow stop going up. Hope that helps! - Gabe

Question: why is the flaring of the right elbow up/behind body,instead of down, such an important element in the backswing? Does it lead to getting stuck or is it more of a problem with changing with plane to detriment of consistency?

Hey Paul, for Adam the main intention is actually connection. We have three main components of connection, first is club in front of hands, second is hands in front of the body. Then we maintain that connection through the whole swing. When the club gets too far on the inside or too vertical it gets outside of the body's center and some rerouting has to take place to get it back in front. It keeps the connection without any need to manipulate later in the swing. Hard to describe through text, Adam talks about this in a lot of the videos. Hope that helps some! - Gabe
I just made this adjustment to my swing. I was struggling with control even with wedges because I was bringing the club head inside too far on the takeaway. I could go 20 yards right or left. Then I took the club back for the first 3 feet or so leaving the head out and hands in. After that it is basically a feeling of raising the club straight up and rotating shoulders (instead of turning shoulders). The first ball I hit actually came to rest at the base of the target pole (essentially a hole in one). Every shot kept dead straight AND distance was perfect as well. Head OUT Hands IN resulted in a major game changing level of consistency. I think this method keeps the club on a consistent plane. It eliminates a lot of the variability of bringing the club inside which allows too many body parts to influence the contact position. Or I may just be FOS! 😂 It works for me.
Clubhead on Backswing and downswing will do the opposite of each other...on downswing you want to hit with the clubhead coming from the inside and slightly behind you with your hands leading...if you do "hands out, club in" on the backswing, you'll get the opposite on the downswing and come over the top in order to hit it or if you try to come back to the ball on the same plane you'll likely flip, chunk, or thin it, or you'll have to lift your hands really high at the top and then attempt to reroute the club back on plane (not impossible to hit great shots with this inside takeaway...Jon rahm brings the club slightly inside and hes incredible, as does John daly...but these guys are massively talented and freakishly gifted)
I love this feel but it makes my swing steeper. Why would that be? I assume that means normally I stand up in order to fake the shallow swing. What feels do you have to shallow in transition?
Best way to shallow, is to get the takeaway and get to the top of the backswing in the right position. Then getting it to shallow is 10X easier. Hard to say without seeing your swing. Thanks for watching and the comment! - Gabe

That’s funny. From the thumbnail I see that they are teaching here - but on the backswing - what I try to do on the downswing. (Hands in and clubhead out.) Sooooo, maybe to increase my consistency in that pattern in the downswing I should try hands in and clubhead out early in the backswing (as illustrated in the thumbnail? Gonna give it a try.

This will be a neutral ball flight with the ability to work it both ways… we shape the golf ball by adjusting our setup more than altering the swing
