The government had stopped the import of foreign snacks for about 6-7 months and only recently lifted the ban. Lay's chips, kurkure etc were banned from being imported into the company and that's when Nepali companies started taking over the market with similar products. The first snack you had was non existent about 6 months ago but now it's everywhere and the same goes for a lot of other junk food items.

FYI, Khata is originally a Tibetan ceremonial scarf. It is mainly use for the welcome ceremonies during some important events and weddings. In America and Europe u have beautiful culture of giving flowers for greetings and we Tibetan use khata for greetings.

Great choice, Doda burfi. I recently chanced upon it after a Nepali friend of mine introduced it to me here in Austin, TX. I found it in Chennai last time I went down and ate it. It is usually white in color but may also be gold. you will find them in other colors these days but that is due to the easy availability of dyes. otherwise traditionally they were white due to how expensive natural dyes were to procure back in tibet. Although I find it weird that with the ridiculous money that is being charged for a night, the reception that guests receive is not up to par for what is essentially a luxury boutique hotel.
