Welcome! Some useful info for your trip that I learned when immigrating- Cash is rarely used - some stores might not even have a lot of change if you pay with a big note. Tipping is not expected anywhere (but nice to do if you feel generous), and as such you usually pay for your café, bar, restaurant bill at the til (ie get up and pay). Getting the 'check' to your table isn't really a thing. If you buy alcohol, everyone with you must have id (not just the buyer) You can only park your car facing the direction of traffic (you'll get a ticket if you park the wrong way around!) and last you and all your family are covered by the health system for any accidents you might be unlucky to have (sprains, strains, broken bones!). All New Zealanders and tourists have mostly free coverage for accidents through a system called ACC which you can look up if you get a bump! (you likely won't need your health insurance for these things). This system replaces personal injury claims in the country - which means yep you can't sue here. Last, fun fact eggs in New Zealand don't need to be refrigerated (just kept at a stable temperature). In the US they wash eggs at the factory and strip the natural protective layers from the egg and need to be refrigerated as a result. Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip.
This is fantastic information!!! Thank you so much!! I had no idea about the tipping until we went to a restaurant! I love this, thank you for sharing!!!
@@ValieBallardwe kind of have tips, some places will have a tip jar on the bar but it’s less ‘tip your server’ and more ‘tip the staff as a whole’ to my understanding it gets shared out or used to get something for the staff to share. Definitely very different to the USA and way less official (I’m down south, so this may be less common in the north island) Glad you’re enjoying nz!! Very cute seeing you all discover the beach, something I definitely take for granted. Reminded me how lucky we are to be so close to the ocean
Legislation around poultry farms came into effect 2 or 3 years ago. Chicken had to farmed in a manner that was more humane for them. Barn chickens have decent space to lay in. But of course, costs go up. Everything has gone up, mind you. I hope you enjoy your stay.
We can hope with the extra cost the eggs are better for us, too!? I was so surprised by the cost! Sometimes we can buy 12 eggs for $2-3 usd but they are not cage free by any means! :) Thank you for the well wishes!!!
Actually many chicken farms went out of business, because of new Government regulations on poultry farming, the new laws were passed in 2012. Battery Caged Hens was outlawed etc. Then Supermarkets refused, colony caged eggs, colony cages are larger, but the Supermarkets argue, still not enough, freedom for the hens.. N.Z. hens are pretty clever, they're more intelligent than many humans ...as you can see The reason for the price inflation, after all the carnage, is simply there's a shortage, an even to free range you need a couple of Doctorates .. All the best for yours an N.Z. it's a wonderful country I hear ..🌝..
@@ValieBallard So the egg thing: US eggs need to be washed in bleach and detergent because salmonella is endemic in north American farms. NZ follows the EU model where salmonella is controlled at the farm stage. This means that the eggs aren't washed, leaving the natural air tight coating protecting the eggs intact and they shouldn't be refrigerated. The main reason for doing it this way is that washing eggs requires bleach and detergent, which permeates into the egg - this isn't considered food safe in NZ and EU. Upside is the eggs have darker yolks, more flavour and you don't get the slight chemical taste of USA eggs. Downside: it's significantly more expensive to produce eggs without washing. Even battery farmed chickens need more space and care, couple this with NZ & EU's tougher animal welfare legislation and you get our prices. Since we export to the EU, the washing eggs system isn't really an option. Now, you still shouldn't pull an egg out of a NZ carton and lick it - you should be fine; but not having endemic salmonella doesn't mean there's NO bacteria, so yk, just use common sense.
Lime pit warkworth is a fresh water swimming hole for free. North Auckland. Martins bay is a good place to swim at any time, or Snells Beach when the tide comes in late in the day, the water can feel like a warm bath.

Hi and welcome to NZ, hope you and family have an awesome stay and enjoy the culture and relaxed laid back lifestyle. Kiwi's fit on a continuum at one end crazy at the other amazing, you will find your feet don't be afraid to ask locals for help or information most will be keen as to help, but yeah you will get the random one. Looks like you are in Auckland 20% of New Zealand's population, no worries the other 80% will feel sorry for you, it is tradition for the rest of New Zealand to mock Aucklanders. Anyway take care, take risk, enjoy the opportunities and rewards, but live life to the full.
Just for the whole "Eggs not refrigerated" thing, we dont need to because we dont clean our eggs. They still have the natural "bloom" around them which is basically a natural vacuum seal stopping any bacteria getting into the pores of the eggshell. Whereas in America, you guys wash the eggs commercially.
As a kiwi, I was super confused when you said the temperature at the start! of course then I realised you were meaning in farenhight (I can't spell 😭), not Celsius. I also realised you went to the beach I just went to when I went up there from wellington

Have an awesomeness time.
Hat's off to you and hubby for taking the whole tribe to the other side of the world. Hope it all went well over here in lil ol expensive NZ 😆 thanks for coming team 👏✌️🇳🇿
Welcome to Aotearoa New Zealand!!! Enjoy your stay & be safe. Some tips. Use Sunblock every day especially very white skin. Even if it's overcast our sun burns badly. We don't have wild animals in NZ but dogs need to be on leash. Buying veges at a fruit shop is way cheaper than at a supermarket. Cheapest Supermarket is Pak n Save. Kmart is open til midnight in case you need anything. Traffic is busiest just before 10am & then by 3pm in Auckland. We don't tip at restaurants. Waiters/waitresses get paid wages here so no tips required. Plus, any tips go into a jar & the Manager decides on distribution to all staff. GST is included in every purchase at every store, restaurant, petrol stations. Most popular food to try in NZ is a kiwi pie. Google best bakery in your area. Bakeries provide cheaper lunch options for big families. You'll find pastries, pies, sweet treats, sandwiches etc. If going on road trips always let someone know where you're going & be careful on the windy roads. Especially if your not used to driving opposite side of road. "Kia Ora!" means, Hello, thank you, how are you?". Most drivers are courteous & overall people are friendly & helpful. Enjoy your stay!!!
Welcome to NZ watch out for sunny days our sun can be a burner with 15 min at heat of the days as we have hole in ozone over us. So doesn't take as long to burn so have sunscreen available and a hat.
Kia Ora, Its always a pleasure seeing new family's from a world away come and hopefully have a pleasant day. It's not perfect but it can be a lot better for all once this Government wakes up.. they won't but our locals are koolbananas 😊
I hope you try the meat pies and fish and chips. My favourite place for pies is Mt Richmond Bakery but almost any bakery will sell pies. With pies you get what you pay for. By the way K Mart is still open in New Zealand.

Makes ya proud & keeps ya grounded being a kiwi seeing videos like this
Gorgeous baby! Enjoy NZ 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
Thank you! 😊😊😊
You should come down to the south island the mountains are beatiful here❤❤❤
The people are racist tho and randomly stop you to ask where you are from and why I'm here blah blah blah 😂😂😂😂 never again
That's my suburb. Hope you enjoyed Long Bay! Great place all year round.
We love it there!!
You guys are staying just across the road from us. We live in one of the houses that back onto that park! Welcome to NZ
As a kiwi, I was super confused when you said the temperature at the start! of course then I realised you were meaning in farenhight (I can't spell 😭), not Celsius.
I also realised you went to the beach I just went to when I went up there from wellington
Love your Travel Videos Valie! And you've got a lovely family to do these trips with.
I'd like to highly recommend putting down 'Goa' on your travel list which is a state located in India.
Enjoy your time in New Zealand with the fam! 😊
Very Happy Family May God Bless you all😢❤
Hello geegeous families o miss you from Pakistan🇵🇰
Kia Ora, I hope you get as much joy as we do here in Aotearoa New Zealand. Watching your tamariki being at the beach for the first time reminds me of all of the little things like a beach that we kiwis take for granted because here it only takes a shortish time to get to either a beach or a mountain. Have an awesomeness time.
🫶🏻♥️🇳🇿😍🥰
Try shopping at Pak n Save for ‘slightly’ cheaper groceries
OMG the TV hanging on the wall appears to be crooked, how does this happen?
Cool hope yous enjoying yourselves, the weather getting warmer hehe
Hat's off to you and hubby for taking the whole tribe to the other side of the world. Hope it all went well over here in lil ol expensive NZ 😆 thanks for coming team 👏✌️🇳🇿
Thank you so much! ♥️
Kia ora and welcome to N.Z, enjoy your stay.
Yes food is cery expensive here.
Thank you!😃
The way tipping goes around here is it is more about contributing to a staff social fund than it is complementing staff wages.
Looks like you're having a great time
The beach look like Big Manly on the peninsula Whangaparoa Enjoy
If you've never been to a beach before, learn about rips and now to spot them before you take the children swimming in summer.
Youre not too far from North Head, good fun exploring the tunnels, its free and will wear everyone out,
Enjoy your stay.
Oh, take torches.
I need to look this up, wow!!
Hope y'all have a great time there, you gonna love it. 🤎🙌🏾
Thank you!
Loving the North Shore scenes
Enjoy. You will love it in NZ.
Thank you!
We missed you all
Try a steak and cheese pie, or Mince and cheese, one thing we do well here,is meat pies. Lots of flavours to choose from.
14:00 Sal's for American style pizzas 🙂
I hope you try the meat pies and fish and chips. My favourite place for pies is Mt Richmond Bakery but almost any bakery will sell pies. With pies you get what you pay for. By the way K Mart is still open in New Zealand.
Welcome to Aotearoa NZ beautiful family or whanau as we say here. Shop for food at Pak'n'Save it's so much cheaper and still great food.
Have a memorable stay. God bless you all.
Thank you! 😃♥️🫶🏻

make sure you read the road signs before parking on the road....especially the bus lane😂try and avoid infringements (ticket)
This took me a minute to get used to!! All the lines confused me initially 😅😅 I was afraid I would be getting lots of tickets, hahah!
Try the dijon style mustard , in a jar. Lot better.
Brown's Bay!... Welcome
