    Love the stray dog report 😂! That bridge is really neat. Podgorica has been through a lot, but it's still beautiful!

      @@MattWhitingsEurope quick question though. When I was looking at Montenegro about 6 years ago I was told I need my passport on me at all times. Is this still the case?

    • @MattWhitingsEurope

      The latest travel advice I'm aware of is that you must carry an official government issued form of ID at all times. So as a British citizen that would mean a passport or driving licence. They're the main ones anyway. I think I stuck with my passport just in case, although it's good practice to keep a copy in a safe place. Hope that helps!

    Hi Matt. Hope you're well! Really interesting video, thank you 😊 I've been considering doing a 2 day trip to here (as there is a direct flight from Stansted..), it wouldn't be long enough to really get out of the capital, so I was planning to just stay in the capital and explore. I'm now reconsidering that plan, though, as it doesn't look like there is much going on in the capital at all 😬 or would you disagree?
    Trying to plan a series of trips over October before the new EES system kicks in, but I might switch this capital out for another..!

      Good morning! I'd always say it's worth a visit just to see what it's like but in my opinion a day would be enough. I spent 3-4 hours there and still got to see everything in this video, although it would have been nice to slow down a bit and have the rest of the day there. The thing is there's so many places nearby that are more worthy of the time - Lovcen, Cetinje, Lake Skadar, Kotor, Budva, etc. I guess if you have two days I'd suggest one day in the capital and maybe a day trip out somewhere? Have they said how much the EES will cost yet?

      @MattWhitingsEurope Happy Monday! Thanks for getting back to me/the nice comment 😊 yes, I was thinking after I wrote that last night that I could spend one day in the city and make a trip out to that lake on the next day- the lake looks gorgeous. I'd need to get public transport there though and I'm not too sure how I would do that. I'll give it some more research. As crazy cheap as the parking was there (30 cents an hour!), I'm not brave enough to drive in Europe 😅 and I'm not sure how much the EES will cost, I don't think it will be too much though (i think i remember reading something about £30 ish, but that might be wrong). The main complaint I have with it is that it will do away with EU passport stamps for us. I've been enjoying collecting them!

    • @MattWhitingsEurope

      I seem to remember that public transport was sparse especially when you leave the capital, I remember seeing train tracks but they oddly enough just end once they've crossed a bridge near the abandoned Fort Lesendro. Real shame about the passport stamps, I too like to pick them up where ever I go.

    You're absolutely wrong about the tourists in Podgorica, there is literally too many both people and cars at the moment, I live there since I was born and it has changed completely last 5 years, the population got doubled in those years. Anyway great video, you have a lot of great places in Montenegro, make sure to visit as much as possible!

      Perhaps it was the time of year I visited then? I didn't see many tourists in Podgorica and was told that most people stick to the Kotor area. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the videos. As a local, are there any other places you'd recommend I visit in the future? I've heard that Durmitor National Park is well worth a stop?

      The places you must see in Podgorica: Nikolin dvorac, Plantaže, hotel Podgorica (its architecture), Medun, Komovi, vodopad rijeke Cijevne, listen Ksenija Cicvaric's singing, brdo Gorica, KIC Budo Tomovic, stadion Buducnosti,...

    I returned two days ago from Podgorica, except for the greenery and the beautiful river, I didn't see anything interesting there. Montenegro is full of wonderful places and natural beauties, the capital is not interesting.

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  4 місяці тому +1

      I think it's fair to say that most tourists tend not to visit the capital because there's plenty of better places to visit in Montenegro. I'm glad I stopped by for a few hours but very pleased I spent most of my time in Budva, Kotor, Tivat, Lovcen etc

    Did you have any difficulties with the language?. I guess English is spoken in every tourist area, but if I go far from it I should expect some difficulties in terms of communication, right?

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah that's nail on head right there. Places like Budva and Kotor were no problem at all but places like Podgorica and Lovcen were a little more challenging - I guess they see less English tourists overall. The younger are also more likely to speak English than the older. I didn't have any real issues though as most of where I visited take in day trips from the cruise liners and Boka Bay.

    30 cents an hour to park; yes, that's a bargain! I've been to Podgorica twice - to their bus station! 😂

    Lovely photography and narration. Annoying music.
    Podgorica was bombed over 70 times during WWII.
