My experience with Vyvanse has been relatively positive, I have been taking it for over a year. I was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, but the non-hyperactive version. I tend to have a low energy drive, which makes me procrastinate and over think, and I have low self-esteem, and I often keep to myself. But when I started taking Vyvanse 40mg, I actually became more energetic, and I no longer procrastinate. I also noticed that my self-esteem improved, and I am more willing to engage in conversations with people. I think it's safe to say that Vyvanse helps me break out of my shell.

@whoopdattrick9390 if you haven't been told already by your provider: I would definitely eat a little before taking it and I would take it before 10AM every morning. I take it between 7AM-8AM. It only takes around 25 minutes for me to feel it start working. I was diagnosed with BED & ADHD inattentive type and thankfully this drug helps with both. I can go all day until around 4pm without eating (though my provider says I should fit in a small meal during that span of time.) I highly recommend Vyvanse for anyone with ADHD inattentive type & BED. I have so much more motivation and I'm able to actually concentrate. It also help with my confidence overall.
@@TheBowmans13 I tried it for a week …I felt better at work and more productive but at home and at night I felt anxious and had no appetite…so I talked with my dr and I stopped taking it and started taking a anti depressant/anxiety prescription
If anyones going to see this, I have a great comparison if you’re trying to use it for binge eating. You know when you’re sick with a cold or a flu and you genuinely have no appetite and don’t feel like eating at all? It’s very much like that. It reduces your appetite and food just doesn’t seem appealing at all. It’s like you have to force yourself to eat. Eat a big breakfast so that if you are resisting food throughout the day, your body will be at least surviving off of a big breakfast. I take it for Binge Eating Disorder. I started on 20MG I didn’t have the success story as others who said they lost weight within the first week of taking it. I just got my dose up yesterday to 30MG I hope this helps more. I’ve gained a significant amount of weight from binge eating due to depression.
I'm just starting and only on 20mg but for me it feels similar to when I would combine CBD and coffee. I'm taking it for ADHD but I do eat when I'm not hungry so hopefully it helps this too! Thanks for the video
@@dralywood Maybe possible issues with them like Raynaud's or the people who have to be careful taking it if they have a condition such as Raynaud's. (It's making my Raynaud's syndrome flare up a bit.) Just an idea
Helpful content. I was on Vyvanse low dose daily, for six years for ADD/treatment resistant depression. Very, very helpful medication! However, after time, stomach and blood pressure issues along with some psychosis became very concerning! Decision made to go off. Off medication for six months. Seems reasons to take the med are back along with continuing side effects-but fighting, which is exhausting! Holding on. Pros and cons for sure. Hope this helps someone. 3:32
Thank you for this video I'm currently on adderall for ADHD and came clean to my psychiatrist that I've been suffering from binge eating my whole life and she recommends trying Vyvanse soon. When the adderall wears off I tend to go into that binge cycle 😭

Hello! I've recently started taking vyvanse and the difference has been amazing. However I can't shake this worry over potentially damaging my brain with long term use. Do you know if it damages the brains natural dopamine levels and receptors? Also do you know about drinking in the night if you've taken vyvanse in the morning? There's a lot of conflicting info on the internet!

Hi, I have been on vyvanse for a while and I remember half a decade ago an offhand comment from a mother saying that her son takes Vyvanse for some anger issues. In my own experience Vyvanse certainly has an emotion muting effect(at least at my dosage) and makes me more capable of staying calm mentally even if I may physically be a bit more jittery(elevated heart rate, less smooth motor control). But anyways I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of Vyvanse being prescribed for such an issue.
Another comment I would like to make is that as someone on 70mg(the max dose) who is 182 lbs, I have a decreased appetite while on Vyvanse but it has been very manageable and my BMI is just barely "Overweight" although I am quite athletic(~13% body fat). What I'm trying to say is that the decrease in appetite should be manageable as long as you eat three meals a day. Also the only time I ever experienced most of the other side effects was when I forgot I had already taken my medication and ended up ingesting two capsules(120mg at the time). That whole day my head was spinning and I struggled to quiet my mind. I couldn't stop worrying and I was restless. That experience has led me to believe that experiencing these symptoms(dizziness, restlessness) may be indicators of an overdose. I'm quite comfortable now at 70mg but I still experience a decreased appetite, slightly elevated heart rate(negligible when exercising), and insomnia if I take it at an inappropriate time(afternoon).
Wow, Karl! Thank you so much for such a detailed description of your experience with this medication. So many people are going to be able to learn from this! In regards to your question regarding anger issues, what I see clinically is that some children do have improvements in anger and irritability after starting this medication. There's often a link between anger and ADHD. Sometimes, the anger and irritability can be secondary to kids having things such as impulsive aggression, emotional lability, poor frustration tolerance, excess energy that becomes too hard to handle at times, etc. Other things to remember is that ADHD is also highly comorbid with things such as ODD, anxiety, and mood disorders (all of which can present with irritability). Sometimes, when we get ADHD symptoms under control, some of these other issues fall into place and improve as well. I, personally, have never used a stimulant medication to treat ONLY anger.... only anger that has been present with ADHD. I hope this helps! Having taken Concerta (36-54mg) and Vyvanse (70mg), I've experience less jittery or sporadic anger response with Vyvanse than Concerta. One might say, the mind tends to be a bit "less frustrated" with Vyvanse.
I have tried Elvanse, which is how Vyvanse is called in this part of the world, started with 20 mg, when the effects began to wear off increased to 30, then 40. It did give me mild improvement in ADHD, like slightly better focus and able to finish tasks and I had tremendous amounts of energy (after all it is a stimulant), though by the afternoon the effects faded away. Until 30 mg the side effects were mild, mostly loss of appetite. But then I grew terribly insomniac and it really didn't go away, I was getting depressed because of lack of sleep. I decided to quit the medication, but what the doctor didn't tell me is that you should do this gradually, so I got pretty nasty withdrawal effects, almost leading to a suicide attempt. Also, what no one tells you is that you do have amphetamine in your system, so if you're tested for drugs, you will test positive. In my country that means you're banned from driving. Obviously the positive effects of Vyvanse/Elvanse were not enough for me to live with the side effects.
Hi, your video is interesting, My son is 13 and just been diagnosed with a combination adhd, we have had the worst year going through lockdown as all routine was taken away. He was prescribed concerta xl 3 weeks ago he took it for 4 days but because extremely irritable and angry even if he thought we looked at him the wrong way. After 4 days we took him off it as he was so much worse than before taking it. Now he’s Ben prescribed lisdex 20mg but my psychiatrist told me that if one stimulant acted badly for him they all will. I’m confused! The main reason we wanted meds was to help with his impulsive behavior as it’s getting him in trouble and also he’s very short fused at times so wanted it to help with this. I’m so anxious about starting him on this Monday incase he reacts badly again. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Hey! I’m 28 and was finally diagnosed with combined adhd a few months ago. I tried concerta xl but it didn’t work for me, I didn’t notice any change apart from getting headaches and a bit more irritable. I am now on Elvanse 30mg and it has made such a big difference to me! My mood is so much better, I am calmer and can concentrate and focus a lot more. From the research I have done the last few months and from watching many videos it seems that a lot of people react differently to different stimulants and if one doesn’t work it doesn’t necessarily mean that they all won’t work. If you find that none of the stimulants work for him there is also a non stimulant medication called strattera (I have not tried this myself but I’ve seen many people who don’t react well with stimulants say that it worked for them) good luck in finding the right treatment ❤️
I would second this! Just because one didn't work, it doesn't mean that all of them won't work. People react differently to different medications. If someone I am treating fails one, we will always try another.
Hi Rachel , Thankyou for your message, this helps a lot! We are starting a 30mg dosage tomorrow I was unsure if this was too high for a 13year old. In our medication review I was sure the dr said she would start on 20mg that’s why I question it. I’m pretty anxious about starting the new meds as the concerta had a really negative effect. It’s been such a long journey for us and we are beyond exhausted by now. More than anything I want him to not react so badly over the smallest of things and not be so irritable. I’m currently homeschooling as he cannot tolerate school so hopefully he will one day feel he can manage. I’m glad you have found something that works for yourself❤️It’s not easy living it day in day out. I’ve had a really negative experience with our psychiatrist who told me if one stimulant doesn’t work none will as they all basically do the same just different brands which totally confused me. We are having to pay private as the nhs have extremely long wait. I want to find a psychiatrist that can sympathize not judge if any recommendations in the uk? Many thanks xxx

Excellent video - I am a 31 year old, 6 foot 3 male (medium build) and have been diagnosed with ADHD last week. I have been prescribed 30mg Elvanse (U.K. version of Vyvanse) starting dose and currently on day 2. I found on day 1, Elvanse took effect after 1.5 hours - I only realised it began to work as my heart beats increased, tingling to the lips, slightly dryness to the back of the throat etc. In all, 1 tablet lasted me 5/6hours where I felt no effects. Day 2 (Today) having taken the medication at 7am - I barely felt any effect. My Psychiatrist did indicate within my appointment that I could take a follow up dose during the afternoon, however I want to give it atleast a week to settle before doing this whilst in the titration period. My question: does my size/gender impact how effective a dose can be? Thank you in advance

Great question- There are so many different things that can impact the metabolism (and therefore dose effectiveness) of a medication. Some factors could include age, gender, genetic variability, nutrition, muscle-to-fat ratio, hormone differences, etc. When dosing this medication in children, we will often use their weight to help guide us. However, the approach in adults is different. With adults, we will start low dose-wise and increase it gradually and slowly to find the most effective dose. I always encourage my patients to try a dose for a solid week or so before making a dose adjustment. This gives the body time to adjust to it from a side-effect standpoint and gives us a better idea of how effective it is. Hope this helps! Is there a difference between cardiovascular events and increase heart rate? How common are these serious side effects? I’ve been diagnosed with adult adhd but I’m too afraid to go on medication because of these potential serious side effects 😳
the side effects are extremely minimal compared to the enhanced quality of life you get from taking medication for ADHD. I was also diagnosed as an adult and take vyvance. Takes some time to get used to but its life changing.
Hey Daniel- this is a really good question and yes, there is a big difference between the two. The FDA puts a warning on all stimulants about the potential for cardiovascular reactions. It states: "Serious Cardiovascular Reactions: Sudden death has been reported in association with CNS stimulant treatment at recommended doses in pediatric patients with structural cardiac abnormalities or other serious heart problems. In adults, sudden death, stroke, and myocardial infarction have been reported. Avoid use in patients with known structural cardiac abnormalities, cardiomyopathy, serious heart arrhythmia, or coronary artery disease." When it comes to increased heart rate, the risk according to the FDA drug label is 2%. They do not give rates for those who experience severe cardiovascular reactions. However, they are quite rare, especially if the person has no history themselves of cardiac disease or family history of cardiac disease. I hope this helps clarify things. Dr. Aly P.S. For Me (60mg Vyvanse) it works great agents anxiety and makes it easier to talk with new people, it’s a little like alcohol but you Don’t get the dizziness and you can think clearly :)

It's just formidable! I've been on Vyvanse for 5 years, it makes my mind razor-sharp and hyperproductive as I have never been before. It's the ultimate nootropic, I wish it was allowed for anyone to buy! Although not specifically approved for this purpose, for me it also helped a lot with depressive symptoms, Vyvanse lifts my mood and helps me with social anxiety as well.
Can Vyvanse help with racing thoughts? I take Adderall XR, but even while taking that medication, I still struggle with my thoughts bouncing from one thing to the next and it's difficult for me to focus on the task at hand. I feel like I need something to quiet my brain down.
Useful video. But I wouldn’t say complete remission if symptoms. Won’t make me more organised. But will help me with focus and concentration which can help with organising. Pill can’t teach the skill. But if found this medication so helpful. Almost life changing. Executive function is better. I’m still titrating (week 4/5 as doing slower increases). i will say vyvanse compared to adderall- vyvanse made my brain go silent and calm and actually help me think through tasks whereas adderall made me get tasks done, but it was frenzied. i actually cried when i first took vyvanse and everything was „quiet“
Why did my probiotic make the Vyvanse not work? I had to stop the probiotic when I started Vyvanse and now three weeks later I have massive heartburn, but if I take the probiotic, my Vyvanse seems like it doesn’t work and I am taking it at night. anybody have a suggestion?

I just subscribed you are great ! My doc is switching my to 70mg of Vyvanse on Tuesday . I was on Adderal 30mgIR twice a day and it didn’t do anything . It was so odd , I still ate like normal , I slept like normal and I had no effects period . It’s the oddest thing . I’m hoping the Vyvanse works for me !

No negative side effects but also no positive . I am getting a sleep study done next month for sleep apnea to see if that could be the issue . I don’t know what other medication to try honestly :(

I'm on 20mg of Vyvanse and I have mixed reviews. I definitely am able to think better and more logically. I can understand what I read and am less emotionally explosive. I had a massive headache the other day, which was the 1st time, and my blood pressure went up that day, otherwise it remains low-average. The issue I have is with people and in public. I am not willing to engage with everybody who wants to talk to me, I feel more reserved, in that I have to feel a connection with the person, but I am cordial. I still get some weird stares, that has been something that has bothered me even prior to medication, but as I said, my reaction is reserved, so I will be controlled and notice, instead of get p-off. I sometimes feel peaceful which is weird for me, is it normal? But I can also feel anxious (I was always anxious) and when it's the case, I feel more speedy, which I don't like. Not sure what to think of all this, maybe my brain is getting used to normal or maybe this is not normal I don't know.
Great question! Vyvanse often causes people to poop and has been shown to cause diarrhea in around 7% of adults who take it for ADHD! There are a few potential causes of this: 1) It's important to remember that Vyvanse is a CNS stimulant, meaning that it increases the amounts of norepinephrine and dopamine in a person's body. Initially after taking the medication, the increase in these neurotransmitters can lead to a "fight-or-flight" response. However, after that subsides, the opposite response can occur- which is the "rest and digest" response (digest=poop). 2) Vyvanse can increase anxiety (~6%) or jitteriness (~4%) in some people. This can affect gastric motility, which leads to more pooping. 3) Many people take the medication in the morning with breakfast. Food + coffee (a bowel stimulant) + Vyvanse = pooping more. 4) Vyvanse can also irritate someone's stomach, which can lead to increased pooping. Vyvanse the only med that works for me, surprisingly, the active ingredient, dextroamphetamine, makes me feel way worse when taken as Dexedrine pill. For some reason the slow release of dextroamph that vyvanse does make it way more effective for me
I'll consider it... I also have tourettes though and supposedly bipolar. I think my bipolar diagnosis was accurate. I am 💯 definitely ADHD. Soon getting screened for OCD, PTSD and autism too... anyhow, I know some meds need to be avoided with tics or bipolar. But also, the binging wthat comes with ADHD is getting out of control and then I just end up to doing an unhealthy amount of exercise. I really need something that will help my brain and calm those fireworks when I'm around food before they even begin.

Vit C reduces the uptake of Vyvanse in the gut and so the amount of medication is less in the body. Taking Vit C/orange juice with Vyvanse in the morning is NOT advised. Dr. Rob

I suffer from adhd and I think BED as well, I’ve never got real treatment for my adhd. The catch is I have a past of drug abuse, do you think my doctor will prescribe this to me?
Hello, Ive had ADHD my entire life(Im a 43 years old man and I enjoy weightlifting. Im in good health but im worried about the heart issues eg- high blood prressure and any other heart issues this medication can bring on. Is it safe for me to continue going to the gym each day and lift heavy weights while on this medication? Im always paranoid im going to have a heart attack while in the gym. ADHD has absolutely destroyed my life, I just want to feel normal and accomplish tasks but I can't. Weightlifting has been the only saving grace in my life, but I still feel like it's not enough and I now have to turn to medication.
Hey Maggie- Vyvanse is not the same as speed. While both are stimulants, their chemical compositions are very different. Speed is composed of methamphetamine where Vyvanse is comped of amphetamine. However, I did just find a case report where a patient also found benefit in trying a stimulant. Great question! Vyvanse is only FDA approved for binge eating disorder in adults at this time. I saw a psychiatrist recently who told me he couldn’t diagnose me for ADHD because I would need to have been diagnosed with it before the age of 12. He also said that anybody who is over the age of 12 and has been prescribed medication for ADHD has been receiving it illegally. What do I do here?
One myth that needs to expelled is that it shouldn't be taken with MAOIs i take 70mg with Tranylcypromine 60mg twice a day and its great but there are no real side effects. Everyone is different but the real risk with MAOIs is serotonin toxicity not the "cheese effect" which is still overly emphasised based on old literature. This combination could be helping a lot of people

@whoopdattrick9390 if you haven't been told already by your provider: I would definitely eat a little before taking it and I would take it before 10AM every morning. I take it between 7AM-8AM. It only takes around 25 minutes for me to feel it start working. I was diagnosed with BED & ADHD inattentive type and thankfully this drug helps with both. I can go all day until around 4pm without eating (though my provider says I should fit in a small meal during that span of time.) I highly recommend Vyvanse for anyone with ADHD inattentive type & BED. I have so much more motivation and I'm able to actually concentrate. It also help with my confidence overall.

If anyones going to see this, I have a great comparison if you’re trying to use it for binge eating. You know when you’re sick with a cold or a flu and you genuinely have no appetite and don’t feel like eating at all? It’s very much like that. It reduces your appetite and food just doesn’t seem appealing at all. It’s like you have to force yourself to eat. Eat a big breakfast so that if you are resisting food throughout the day, your body will be at least surviving off of a big breakfast. Hope this helps! 1 week in and 5 lbs down.

I take it for Binge Eating Disorder. I started on 20MG I didn’t have the success story as others who said they lost weight within the first week of taking it. I just got my dose up yesterday to 30MG I hope this helps more. I’ve gained a significant amount of weight from binge eating due to depression.

Helpful content. I was on Vyvanse low dose daily, for six years for ADD/treatment resistant depression. Very, very helpful medication! However, after time, stomach and blood pressure issues along with some psychosis became very concerning! Decision made to go off. Off medication for six months. Seems reasons to take the med are back along with continuing side effects-but fighting, which is exhausting! Holding on. Pros and cons for sure. Hope this helps someone. 3:32

How did it go with the binge eating after changing?
Hello! I've recently started taking vyvanse and the difference has been amazing. However I can't shake this worry over potentially damaging my brain with long term use. Do you know if it damages the brains natural dopamine levels and receptors? Also do you know about drinking in the night if you've taken vyvanse in the morning? There's a lot of conflicting info on the internet!
Don't drink on vyvanse. Take a couple days off from your meds before drinking at least

Hi, I have been on vyvanse for a while and I remember half a decade ago an offhand comment from a mother saying that her son takes Vyvanse for some anger issues. In my own experience Vyvanse certainly has an emotion muting effect(at least at my dosage) and makes me more capable of staying calm mentally even if I may physically be a bit more jittery(elevated heart rate, less smooth motor control). But anyways I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of Vyvanse being prescribed for such an issue.
Another comment I would like to make is that as someone on 70mg(the max dose) who is 182 lbs, I have a decreased appetite while on Vyvanse but it has been very manageable and my BMI is just barely "Overweight" although I am quite athletic(~13% body fat). What I'm trying to say is that the decrease in appetite should be manageable as long as you eat three meals a day. Also the only time I ever experienced most of the other side effects was when I forgot I had already taken my medication and ended up ingesting two capsules(120mg at the time). That whole day my head was spinning and I struggled to quiet my mind. I couldn't stop worrying and I was restless. That experience has led me to believe that experiencing these symptoms(dizziness, restlessness) may be indicators of an overdose.
I'm quite comfortable now at 70mg but I still experience a decreased appetite, slightly elevated heart rate(negligible when exercising), and insomnia if I take it at an inappropriate time(afternoon).

In regards to your question regarding anger issues, what I see clinically is that some children do have improvements in anger and irritability after starting this medication.
There's often a link between anger and ADHD. Sometimes, the anger and irritability can be secondary to kids having things such as impulsive aggression, emotional lability, poor frustration tolerance, excess energy that becomes too hard to handle at times, etc. Other things to remember is that ADHD is also highly comorbid with things such as ODD, anxiety, and mood disorders (all of which can present with irritability).
Sometimes, when we get ADHD symptoms under control, some of these other issues fall into place and improve as well.
I, personally, have never used a stimulant medication to treat ONLY anger.... only anger that has been present with ADHD.

Having taken Concerta (36-54mg) and Vyvanse (70mg), I've experience less jittery or sporadic anger response with Vyvanse than Concerta. One might say, the mind tends to be a bit "less frustrated" with Vyvanse.
I have BPD so I tend to become super angry or emotional, but also have a lot of depression. My psychiatrist just prescribed me this!
I have tried Elvanse, which is how Vyvanse is called in this part of the world, started with 20 mg, when the effects began to wear off increased to 30, then 40. It did give me mild improvement in ADHD, like slightly better focus and able to finish tasks and I had tremendous amounts of energy (after all it is a stimulant), though by the afternoon the effects faded away. Until 30 mg the side effects were mild, mostly loss of appetite. But then I grew terribly insomniac and it really didn't go away, I was getting depressed because of lack of sleep. I decided to quit the medication, but what the doctor didn't tell me is that you should do this gradually, so I got pretty nasty withdrawal effects, almost leading to a suicide attempt. Also, what no one tells you is that you do have amphetamine in your system, so if you're tested for drugs, you will test positive. In my country that means you're banned from driving.
Obviously the positive effects of Vyvanse/Elvanse were not enough for me to live with the side effects.

My son is 13 and just been diagnosed with a combination adhd, we have had the worst year going through lockdown as all routine was taken away.
He was prescribed concerta xl 3 weeks ago he took it for 4 days but because extremely irritable and angry even if he thought we looked at him the wrong way. After 4 days we took him off it as he was so much worse than before taking it.
Now he’s Ben prescribed lisdex 20mg but my psychiatrist told me that if one stimulant acted badly for him they all will. I’m confused!
The main reason we wanted meds was to help with his impulsive behavior as it’s getting him in trouble and also he’s very short fused at times so wanted it to help with this. I’m so anxious about starting him on this Monday incase he reacts badly again.

Hey! I’m 28 and was finally diagnosed with combined adhd a few months ago. I tried concerta xl but it didn’t work for me, I didn’t notice any change apart from getting headaches and a bit more irritable. I am now on Elvanse 30mg and it has made such a big difference to me! My mood is so much better, I am calmer and can concentrate and focus a lot more.
From the research I have done the last few months and from watching many videos it seems that a lot of people react differently to different stimulants and if one doesn’t work it doesn’t necessarily mean that they all won’t work. If you find that none of the stimulants work for him there is also a non stimulant medication called strattera (I have not tried this myself but I’ve seen many people who don’t react well with stimulants say that it worked for them) good luck in finding the right treatment ❤️
I would second this! Just because one didn't work, it doesn't mean that all of them won't work. People react differently to different medications. If someone I am treating fails one, we will always try another.

We are starting a 30mg dosage tomorrow I was unsure if this was too high for a 13year old. In our medication review I was sure the dr said she would start on 20mg that’s why I question it.
I’m pretty anxious about starting the new meds as the concerta had a really negative effect. It’s been such a long journey for us and we are beyond exhausted by now.
More than anything I want him to not react so badly over the smallest of things and not be so irritable. I’m currently homeschooling as he cannot tolerate school so hopefully he will one day feel he can manage.

I’ve had a really negative experience with our psychiatrist who told me if one stimulant doesn’t work none will as they all basically do the same just different brands which totally confused me.

Excellent video - I am a 31 year old, 6 foot 3 male (medium build) and have been diagnosed with ADHD last week. I have been prescribed 30mg Elvanse (U.K. version of Vyvanse) starting dose and currently on day 2.
I found on day 1, Elvanse took effect after 1.5 hours - I only realised it began to work as my heart beats increased, tingling to the lips, slightly dryness to the back of the throat etc. In all, 1 tablet lasted me 5/6hours where I felt no effects.
Day 2 (Today) having taken the medication at 7am - I barely felt any effect. My Psychiatrist did indicate within my appointment that I could take a follow up dose during the afternoon, however I want to give it atleast a week to settle before doing this whilst in the titration period.
My question: does my size/gender impact how effective a dose can be?

Great question- There are so many different things that can impact the metabolism (and therefore dose effectiveness) of a medication. Some factors could include age, gender, genetic variability, nutrition, muscle-to-fat ratio, hormone differences, etc.
When dosing this medication in children, we will often use their weight to help guide us. However, the approach in adults is different. With adults, we will start low dose-wise and increase it gradually and slowly to find the most effective dose. I always encourage my patients to try a dose for a solid week or so before making a dose adjustment. This gives the body time to adjust to it from a side-effect standpoint and gives us a better idea of how effective it is.

Is there a difference between cardiovascular events and increase heart rate? How common are these serious side effects? I’ve been diagnosed with adult adhd but I’m too afraid to go on medication because of these potential serious side effects 😳
the side effects are extremely minimal compared to the enhanced quality of life you get from taking medication for ADHD. I was also diagnosed as an adult and take vyvance. Takes some time to get used to but its life changing.
Hey Daniel- this is a really good question and yes, there is a big difference between the two.
The FDA puts a warning on all stimulants about the potential for cardiovascular reactions. It states:
"Serious Cardiovascular Reactions: Sudden death has been reported in association with CNS stimulant treatment at recommended doses in pediatric patients with structural cardiac abnormalities or other serious heart
problems. In adults, sudden death, stroke, and myocardial infarction have been reported. Avoid use in patients with known structural cardiac abnormalities, cardiomyopathy, serious heart arrhythmia, or coronary artery disease."
When it comes to increased heart rate, the risk according to the FDA drug label is 2%. They do not give rates for those who experience severe cardiovascular reactions. However, they are quite rare, especially if the person has no history themselves of cardiac disease or family history of cardiac disease.

If you are prescribed for severe binge eating (obviously over weight) should I worry about possible heart issues ??
It's just formidable! I've been on Vyvanse for 5 years, it makes my mind razor-sharp and hyperproductive as I have never been before. It's the ultimate nootropic, I wish it was allowed for anyone to buy! Although not specifically approved for this purpose, for me it also helped a lot with depressive symptoms, Vyvanse lifts my mood and helps me with social anxiety as well.
Can Vyvanse help with racing thoughts? I take Adderall XR, but even while taking that medication, I still struggle with my thoughts bouncing from one thing to the next and it's difficult for me to focus on the task at hand. I feel like I need something to quiet my brain down.
It made my muscles seize up, especially my hands. I use Ritalin with nothing like that.

Pill can’t teach the skill. But if found this medication so helpful. Almost life changing. Executive function is better. I’m still titrating (week 4/5 as doing slower increases). i will say vyvanse compared to adderall- vyvanse made my brain go silent and calm and actually help me think through tasks whereas adderall made me get tasks done, but it was frenzied. i actually cried when i first took vyvanse and everything was „quiet“
Why did my probiotic make the Vyvanse not work? I had to stop the probiotic when I started Vyvanse and now three weeks later I have massive heartburn, but if I take the probiotic, my Vyvanse seems like it doesn’t work and I am taking it at night. anybody have a suggestion?

I'm on 20mg of Vyvanse and I have mixed reviews. I definitely am able to think better and more logically. I can understand what I read and am less emotionally explosive. I had a massive headache the other day, which was the 1st time, and my blood pressure went up that day, otherwise it remains low-average. The issue I have is with people and in public. I am not willing to engage with everybody who wants to talk to me, I feel more reserved, in that I have to feel a connection with the person, but I am cordial. I still get some weird stares, that has been something that has bothered me even prior to medication, but as I said, my reaction is reserved, so I will be controlled and notice, instead of get p-off. I sometimes feel peaceful which is weird for me, is it normal? But I can also feel anxious (I was always anxious) and when it's the case, I feel more speedy, which I don't like. Not sure what to think of all this, maybe my brain is getting used to normal or maybe this is not normal I don't know.

Vyvanse often causes people to poop and has been shown to cause diarrhea in around 7% of adults who take it for ADHD! There are a few potential causes of this:
1) It's important to remember that Vyvanse is a CNS stimulant, meaning that it increases the amounts of norepinephrine and dopamine in a person's body. Initially after taking the medication, the increase in these neurotransmitters can lead to a "fight-or-flight" response. However, after that subsides, the opposite response can occur- which is the "rest and digest" response (digest=poop).
2) Vyvanse can increase anxiety (~6%) or jitteriness (~4%) in some people. This can affect gastric motility, which leads to more pooping.
3) Many people take the medication in the morning with breakfast. Food + coffee (a bowel stimulant) + Vyvanse = pooping more.
4) Vyvanse can also irritate someone's stomach, which can lead to increased pooping.

Vyvanse the only med that works for me, surprisingly, the active ingredient, dextroamphetamine, makes me feel way worse when taken as Dexedrine pill. For some reason the slow release of dextroamph that vyvanse does make it way more effective for me
I'll consider it... I also have tourettes though and supposedly bipolar. I think my bipolar diagnosis was accurate. I am 💯 definitely ADHD. Soon getting screened for OCD, PTSD and autism too...
anyhow, I know some meds need to be avoided with tics or bipolar. But also, the binging wthat comes with ADHD is getting out of control and then I just end up to doing an unhealthy amount of exercise. I really need something that will help my brain and calm those fireworks when I'm around food before they even begin.

Doesn’t Vitamin C reduce the efficacy of Vyvanse? If so, mixing Vyvanse it with orange juice would reduce the positive effects.
Vit C reduces the uptake of Vyvanse in the gut and so the amount of medication is less in the body. Taking Vit C/orange juice with Vyvanse in the morning is NOT advised.

Hello, Ive had ADHD my entire life(Im a 43 years old man and I enjoy weightlifting. Im in good health but im worried about the heart issues eg- high blood prressure and any other heart issues this medication can bring on. Is it safe for me to continue going to the gym each day and lift heavy weights while on this medication? Im always paranoid im going to have a heart attack while in the gym. ADHD has absolutely destroyed my life, I just want to feel normal and accomplish tasks but I can't. Weightlifting has been the only saving grace in my life, but I still feel like it's not enough and I now have to turn to medication.

Hey Maggie- Vyvanse is not the same as speed. While both are stimulants, their chemical compositions are very different. Speed is composed of methamphetamine where Vyvanse is comped of amphetamine. Meth is much more stronger, addictive, and dangerous than regulated stimulants.

I, personally, have not used stimulants to treat DPDR given the lack of solid evidence supporting its use.
However, I did just find a case report where a patient also found benefit in trying a stimulant. Check it out if interested: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7239558/
Ultimately, I think it is something that is very interesting. However, more research probably needs to be conducted before this approach becomes common practice.

Great question! Vyvanse is only FDA approved for binge eating disorder in adults at this time. With that being said, I'd talk to your local provider, as some might be using the medication off-label in teens.

I saw a psychiatrist recently who told me he couldn’t diagnose me for ADHD because I would need to have been diagnosed with it before the age of 12. He also said that anybody who is over the age of 12 and has been prescribed medication for ADHD has been receiving it illegally. What do I do here?
Find a new psychiatrist. Everything they said is a flat out lie and untrue.
One myth that needs to expelled is that it shouldn't be taken with MAOIs i take 70mg with Tranylcypromine 60mg twice a day and its great but there are no real side effects. Everyone is different but the real risk with MAOIs is serotonin toxicity not the "cheese effect" which is still overly emphasised based on old literature. This combination could be helping a lot of people
