I was using Virtual DJ 8 in this video, but they have updated Virtual DJ & have moved the Remix Mode from the Sampler to the Hot Cue Pad. Hit the little little down arrow next to "Hot Cues" and look for Remix Points.
Very nice tutorials, i however had a question, what transition techniques do you use to have a smooth mix from song A to B...Could you as well talk about harmonic mixing if you know something about it, and lastly 2 thumbs up for your efforts...
Yo, I had the same problem and was pulling my hair out for a half hour until I think I found a fix. In the "Folders" view on the bottom, right-click "Sampler" and choose "Create new sample bank..." Name this new bank {remix mode} and it should auto-populate itself with Remix Markers just as it does in the video. Note that remix points are deck-specific by default (I don't know if you can change this) so the points will only show up for the selected deck.
I'm not sure how many remix points you can have. Something in my brain keeps telling me it's 99, but if you are using the mouse & keyboard to DJ, you are probably going to be limited to the amount the skin has.
Echo papa u r The best thanks For sharing vdj tips. I have maschine Mikro 2. And if can do a mapped for that will be awesome 4 sampler, loops,Cue point n secuencer. Thank u again. Blessings
Thanks for watching Andrew. If you download Effects straight from Virtual DJ, they typically install in the correct folder for you automatically. If you are manually installing effects you should find it in the directory MAC OS X: ./Users/{username}/Documents/VirtualDJ/ Unfortunately, I don't have a Mac so I can't show you.
In this video, I noticed your "skin" is different than how it's initially set up with VDJ8. Did you install a different skin or is there a way to move the area around? Specifically how you have the Hotcues in the top right, then effects, then loop. BTW thank you for making these videos, I just got my FIRST console "VMS5" and first time mixing with anything and your videos have really helped out.
Chad Hendrix when I made these videos they were on version 8 and that was the default skin. Now they are on version 8.2 and the default skin is updated.
I don't know if this comment section is still monitored or not since the original post was published more than 2 years ago. But here's a shot anyway. I have uninstalled three times. I have reset to factory defaults three times. I have read the manual several times. I do not have any remix mode option available when I right click on the samples name window. I have a list of features, but I am confident there is no "remix mode". Any advice or suggestions?
I have a question - Is there a way of having say... a 4 beat kick drum in the sampler, that will beat match (sync) to any song you are playing? I thinking using the kick drum as a way of mixing out of a song and then mixing in a different song over the kick drum.
Nice tutorial Echo Papa!! I have a question X you men, is posible to change the way that the hot cues work in VDJ 8? I want them to work the same way that the hot cues in Serato Dj!!? is a option for that??
***** yeah..there is a setting in virtual dj..go to settings...then in options...then in search window type cue..the list will appear.. simply change the hotcuemode to stutter...it will now works as it works in serato...enjoy
Great tip... I have a question on turning logos on/off when certain videos are displaying during the performance. Is there way to map the keyboard so you can turn off the Showlogo on/off during certain videos?
Hey Echo Papa, if I make a remix point in a song, then change that song later, can I still use the same (in sampler) to mix after the song is not there but on a different song loaded on same deck a previous song was where I created the remix point?
How can you set automix play length to say 45 seconds for each song in the playlist. Do I need to create fade out points for each song or can you set the automix end point to 45 sec. and all songs will fade out at the 45 second point. I am setting up a Music Bingo and would like to set some sort of auto-fade for all songs in the automix playlist.
thank u very much... this remix point u made. it is possible to prepared it at home (saved) before i can play it with the party ? what if i made a remix point 5 songs this will not disappear everytime i load it to the deck?
i'm new to this and old school lol;; i 'm having trouble with the sampler pads , first all would work but then wouldn't work , i know this should be an easy adjustment but when you don't know , you don't know lol;; trying to keep up and stay busy , lol;; thanks
Long shot but, do you have any idea how I find out which of vdj 8's features have been mapped to which buttons/knobs of the numark N4? Currently loving the features of both the software and controller but I'm just having to randomly stab at the loop, hot cue and shift buttons on the N4 to see what happens as it seems there's no documentation on how to use them.
Hey Darren. Plug in your controller, then go to the settings menu (looks like a small gear in the upper right hand corner), then down the left side, click controllers. At the top left you will see your controller list. It will probably show your keyboard and the N4. Click the N4. It should show you a list of everything that your button are mapped to. If you are not happy with your commands, you can always change them. Look for my video on Simple Controller Mapping for a better idea of what you are looking for.
ok, yeah that tells me what the buttons do, if i have the time/patience/intellect to learn the script language. i was hoping there was a more visual way of seeing this, like a photo of the face of the controller, with all its functions AND also the alternate functions of the buttons that are used in conjunction with the shift button, all clearly labelled.
like, i cant really keep going back to that list of script every time i need to remember what something does, I would have thought there would be more info on what features of vdj could be used via each specific controller, seeing as though they've gone to the effort of providing controller specific software, like serato did by providing an overlay for your controls if you choose to use their software.
Hey Darren. I agree, It would be cool if they made manuals for all the controllers that they support, here is a list of the manuals that they do have www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ8%20Controllers.html unfortunately the guys over at Atomix don't have lists for all their controllers, and looking at the N4, it can be a tricky controller with a lot of the buttons pulling double duty. I'm in the same boat, I have 4 controllers, and VDJ does not have a manual for any of them. But after a while my hands just know what the buttons do from practice. And true, SeratoDJ does have good support, but they only support 58 controllers. At last count VDJ supported 239.
whats up echo papa ima big fan i dj myself and was wondering if there any site where i can get some drops o loops from you and send a shout out to djlokez in one of your vids hope to hear from you soon peace out good lookin out for all of us beginners !
Help!!!!! My Virtual DJ 8 doesn't have a remix mode and when I make a new sampler list it will not let enter a sampler. It does not show the squares that you show. What can I do to fix this. thanks
Virtual DJ 7 & 8 has different Graphical Interface: My Tiny TIP (You'll do the rest LOL) - Virtual DJ 7 - Remix Mode is in the SAMPLER PAD (See: In this video) - Virtual DJ 8 - Remix Mode is renamed as Remix Points & can now easily seen (Just go to your Deck Pads & Left Click)
Cue points don't appear in the remix mode, only remix points. You have to go into the POI editor and change your cues to remix points to see them there.
I was using Virtual DJ 8 in this video, but they have updated Virtual DJ & have moved the Remix Mode from the Sampler to the Hot Cue Pad. Hit the little little down arrow next to "Hot Cues" and look for Remix Points.
TheDuck Army It is possible to make the sampler activate and certain points in your song automatically. But it's not just a flip of a switch, it takes a little bit of coding. But then, the song will fire off the sampler every time it hits that point in the song.
For that you need software like Abelton Live, Fruity Loops, ACID, etc, a stack of VST synths, compressors, and distortion plug-ins. With Virtual DJ, the best you can hope for is a mashup of your song with an existing Dubstep song, on maybe layering some precorded dubstep samples that you load into the VDJ sampler.

You can make this easier by adding drop down menus on the pads while in remix mode. All that opening new windows stuff is too much. Streamline the workflow!!!
Hallo Echo Papa ,i from Eritrea .There are no words to express about u .Because U R my teacher. Ich habe viele Teknik von dir gelernt. Danke Sehr
Echo good shit man.Appreciate you breaking it down bro

Why do I sound so hyper in this video? I watch it again and it makes me laugh. Must have been a Red Bull day...lol.
A little, but if anything that is appropriate for UA-cam. Good video, thanks for making it!
Glad it helped. Thanks :)
+Echo Papa You sound good. Always on a good mood. At least that is the idea I have.
+joao l Thnx

Excellent, just a beginner. thanks for keeping it simple
Bro! it's Amazing You solved my problem! Thanks!!!
dude awesome explanation props to you and keep it up...and thats not just the johny walker talking
Ha, ha...even if it is, thanks man. You made me smile.
Love these videos. I know this is 7 years old. I am looking for the remix mode in Sampler but not there. Are Hot Cues as smooth as remix points now?
Good question
I can't find it either
Very nice tutorials, i however had a question, what transition techniques do you use to have a smooth mix from song A to B...Could you as well talk about harmonic mixing if you know something about it, and lastly 2 thumbs up for your efforts...
Thanks for this tutorial. I appreciate the instruction. I've been doing this "method" with 7.4 the long, hard way for a long time.
Thanks for the feedback.
Cannot find Remix mode, Only Audio FX and Famous and Instruments and Videos and Scratch only.
same i think its because he has a diff version

Ok thanks so much!!
Thank you anyways
how do you rename a sample bank
Great video, in the RMX mode how many samples can you have? Is there a way of having more than 9 remix points?
Many thanks.
I'm not sure how many remix points you can have. Something in my brain keeps telling me it's 99, but if you are using the mouse & keyboard to DJ, you are probably going to be limited to the amount the skin has.
I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between remix points and hot cues
Start at 6:30 and you’ll at least know why remix points are good to have
sick video, Virtual Dj 8 looks like the one to buy.
Very useful and Handy for beginners :)
Echo papa u r The best thanks For sharing vdj tips. I have maschine Mikro 2. And if can do a mapped for that will be awesome 4 sampler, loops,Cue point n secuencer. Thank u again. Blessings
good
Hey great channel on VDJ 8! How do you install effects from VDJ website to the right folders in Mac for VDJ 8?
Thanks for watching Andrew.
If you download Effects straight from Virtual DJ, they typically install in the correct folder for you automatically. If you are manually installing effects you should find it in the directory MAC OS X: ./Users/{username}/Documents/VirtualDJ/
Unfortunately, I don't have a Mac so I can't show you.
OK thanks look forward to more videos!
Your welcome. Thanks for watching.
So i recently watched your video and i am using vdj 8.3. Could it be the remix mode was removed in my version? I really wanted to try it out
I have the same question

Sort of. If you click SLIP mode, it will sort of act like Serato, while it is playing, but not while it is paused.
I have a DDj Sz but I Don't want the cue point to start playing the music i want push the diferents pads and just move between cue points!
You are not the first person to ask me about that, but there is not a setting that I have ever found, sorry.
: )
***** yeah..there is a setting in virtual dj..go to settings...then in options...then in search window type cue..the list will appear.. simply change the hotcuemode to stutter...it will now works as it works in serato...enjoy

What console do you have?

Used this with the VDJ8 provided Novation Launchpad mapping, whole new ball game.
That sounds sick.
Is there a way to store loops . That can be triggered at anytime and will match the key and tempo of whatever song is loaded?
Thank you to share, best :)
You're welcome
thank u very much... this remix point u made. it is possible to prepared it at home (saved) before i can play it with the party ? what if i made a remix point 5 songs this will not disappear everytime i load it to the deck?
Once you set a remix point, it is there till u delete it.
really nice

How to do it with two songs
Remix Mode only works with 1 deck at a time, but you can hotswap the deck by hitting the Tab key on your keyboard to jump from one deck to another.

Almost, it makes it act more like a sequencer. But if you load it with drums, it would be like a drum machine.
