    Nice to see advanced features on an amp that are truly useful. That bias switching is very cool and nice to see the smart foot switch. Reminds me of the VHT footswitches where you could assign the graphic etc with a channel change with the mini switch. But even better is to see an amp with bells and whistles that has a killer tone. Many multi feature, high dollar amps that while they may have midi and voicing switches up the wahzoo, seem to forget how they sound is what matters the most and you just a generic clean and characterless high gain. I love and resent 3rd power because the amps sound great but my wallet can’t get there…lol

    You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes "you" get what you need. As a hybrid it's an option as is a Fractal, Kemper etc. In a studio a tool. Live it would be impractical. But I think what we wish for and what we get are shown here. Sure, I'd love one of each of the essential food groups of amps at home, in a studio or if I had a road crew and tech's to gig with. For obvious reasons a Fender isn't a Marshall isn't a Vox as much as a blackface isn't a tweed and JTM isn't a JMP. Practically, the maintenance and volume of classic vintage versions is a bridge and wallet too far and the twain will never meet. Having said that, Michael consistently offers viable solutions and applications in all settings. His use and application of Friedman amps is testimony to his experience, playing and ear which are exceptional. This reminds me of my first electric guitar which was a Godin. It was versatile in a cover band, but when playing with any other guitarist it wasn't a Strat, Tele, Les Paul, acoustic or synth guitar and sat nowhere. After selling it, I moved to what I could afford and what I wanted. Like Indiampa Jones and the Holy Grail remember to "choose wisely" or be a mere mortal who uses 'the' right tool for the job or compromises with close-ish but doesn't die unless they paid too much. :-) When gigging most of the people we play for wouldn't care or know. Best.

    • @BigHairyGuitars
      @BigHairyGuitars  Рік тому

      Hi Edward. Yes, I agree, it is premiumly priced. But it is fully hand wired on turret boards. The workmanship is there. The Bias switch does bring a lot to the party.

    • @edwardgrassel872
      @edwardgrassel872 Рік тому +1

      @@BigHairyGuitars its cool to switch it, but its probably a set it and be done for a gig, which you could do by just biasing any other amp anyway. I believe in innovation, and this is innovative, but pricing out 90% of gigging musicians just is a hard pill to swallow.

    • @BigHairyGuitars
      @BigHairyGuitars  Рік тому +3

      @@edwardgrassel872 I totally get you. You're not wrong at all, but for some people having a 100% hand wired made in the USA amp is important. Certainly if it was an PCB import amp, it would cost 1/2 as much, but that's not really what 3rd Power is about. Like Ferrari or Porsche.

    • @CHRONOSMUSIC
      @CHRONOSMUSIC Рік тому

      @edward grassel in terms of power tubes. Yes you would set it and forget it. I cant think of another amp that not only allows power amp tube bias. But preamp section bias. This is unique to the dirty 6vel. Most other amps will have the ability to bias the power-amp tubes, but not swappable between different tube types (el34, 6v6, 5881, 6l6 etc).
      The power tubes are bias-able from the rear panel with a pot and test points.. the front panel switch is for preamp. So if you were to add cascaded gain, the colder pre-amp bias would help keep things under control, tight and percussive.
