I haven't used my Yuneec 4K in four years. lol This video refreshed and taught more than I knew. Now I'm headed outside, with notes, to practice. Thanks a lot!
Great teaching video, Jeff. The only thing I would add to a new flyer is, if you are flying and get confused or crossed-up somehow, just let go of the sticks! You will hover, and with GPS you will hover in the same spot. Take a deep breath, and think for a minute what you want to do next. Keep your mind ahead of where you want to go, then fly there. I'm watching these for the second time and still learning. Nice job!
You know, that's a GREAT tip. I'm going to start a series of short videos with quick tips for Q500 owners, and I'll mention that as part of one of those videos!
Yes agreed, that's easy do when you have GPS lock. what scares me is what to do if you lose GPS... I have not & hope to not, be in that situation... I have always shown many Satellites @ least 6 on controller and many more on the "Q" But if you lose GPS, as far as I have learned, UR On UR OWN!!!! Don't B 2 High so you know your orientation.
What a briliant tutorial,,,,two in one really 1. how to fly a yuneec quad and 2. how to edit and present a vidio.....both done beautifully. i will definatly be watching for more info on the yuneec from your channel more than any other.....so beautifully done in depth but explained in a straight forward manner for all to understand......spot on Jeff......your a pro...Thankyou
+brianfindsall Hi Brian - thanks for the great feedback! If I could get a break on work I'd finish up a few videos I have in progress, including camera settings and firmware updates. They're coming, I promise!
Thankyou Jeff, i really look forward to watching you future vids...really like your style of presentation. always easier to learn from someone who knows how to put things over...ATB Bri
Simply OUTSTANDING instruction, Jeff!! I wish I'd seen it sooner. I got my Typhoon 4K for Christmas '16, and even though I'd had a good bit of practice with a Syma X5C, I promptly crashed the Typhoon and broke a blade within about 10 seconds?? I'd read the documentation, but it doesn't come close to preparing a beginner. So, the aircraft has been sitting in my living room waiting for me to get up the courage to give it another try. Your video series has given me the knowledge and motivation to get back out there. I'll update the f/w and get started ASAP!! Thanks for the quality work!!! Frank
You are exactly who I created these videos for. I think there aren't enough introductory level videos to give new pilots the knowledge they need to fly comfortably and confidently and that's what I try to do. Prepare for success - fly in an open park with low winds, have a plan of the things you want to try on the first flight, keep the drone close by to begin with - and fly with confidence. Let me know how the flight goes!
+Omar Calhoun My pleasure, Omar - be sure to post after you've done your first flight! I'm always interested in hearing what people think of the Q500 after they get to fly it.
Bad weather stopped me for flying. But it's going to be nice Sunday and I will definitely let you know immediately after I fly. Thank you for following up with me. I'm excited to take flight.
Great job on putting this video together. I expect this will make my first flight more successful. You presented information in concise logical manner . Thank you for your efforts.
I received mine in the mail today and will start my testing on it as soon as possible. Although I am an experienced quad pilot and have owned a few gps quads already, your video has certainly prepared me for what to expect from the Q500. Thanks
Hi Paul - Thanks! You're exactly the person I created this series for, people who are entering the hobby and flying this type of aircraft for the first time. I'm glad you found it helpful. Do me a favor - let me know what you think about the Typhoon G after you've flown it a couple times? I own a G but I put a CGO3 camera on it as soon as I got it, so I've never flown mine with the GoPro gimbal or MK58.
I will let you know. I have got the flight sim coming so my first flights will be purely virtual. I feel a lot more confident after seeing your very clear explanations on the controls and being able to see the effects.
Such a nice calm and professional tutorial. I just bought this drone waiting for the arrival. I feel much more comfortable with my understanding of the controls functions and options before first flight. Thanks!
Thanks! Just have a plan for what you want to practice on your first few flights and keep the aircraft pretty close and you'll do fine. Let me know what you think of it after your first flight!
Jeff Sibelius Hi Jeff. I sure will. All of your videos have been simply the best. I was top 100 out of a quarter million guys on Playstation Formula 1, so I look forward to trying to get good with this controller.
Jeff Sibelius one question. If there is an object that you want to fly a circle around and have the camera keep focused on the subject, what stick motions would achieve this?
This is tricky with the Q500. First, put the aircraft in Angle mode. Then, with your nose pointing the object, push your right stick right and your left stick left. The right stick will put you in motion and the left will rotate the nose, forcing the quad to fly in a circular motion. The tricky part is balancing the amount of input on the two sticks so you rotate and move proportionately to create the circle motion. If you watch my video on Angle vs. Smart mode, I use this to create a partial circle, wrapping around the end of a building. The Typhoon H and Phantom 4 both have an auto fly feature that does this for you . . . it's a feature that is just a little ahead of the Q500's time.
Awesome! I'm glad it helped. If you choose a good place to fly that is free from obstructions, keep the drone in turtle mode and keep the drone fairly close, your first flight should be safe and fun!
+Carol Midani Welcome from Richardson TX! The Q500 4K really is an amazing aircraft. If your son is a newcomer to flying, I hope you can get him watching my video series - I focus on safety and good flying practices, which is a message all new pilots should embrace. Let me know if your son has any questions and I'll be happy to help.
Very well done and in depth. Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly demonstrate everything you talked about. Future videos will be great! I look forward to them. Have a great day!
Brilliant! Just bought a second hand one and was bewildered by the options. Sadly as I am near an airport I can't get to test it until tomorrow but I can wait.. just. Great informative video.
+Cooper David I'm glad you found it helpful. I'm working on a new episode for smart vs. angle that goes well beyond the basics of these modes. Then there is the firmware update video and camera settings video . .. I've got a lot more to do. LOL
Thank You Jeff. This was incredibly helpful. I just purchased a Q500 4k today and flew it briefly this evening. (I was super timid for sure) I feel A WHOLE LOT better about my next flight after watching this video. I will definitely check out your others. Nice Job!
Thank you scotty - that's exactly what I want to hear from people who watch the videos. I understand being timid - I have more than 300 flights but it took me a few weeks to bolster up the courage to do my first flight with the Phantom 4 Pro . . . I did that this morning. So I know exactly how you feel!
I just want to say, thank you a bunch! You're instruction videos helped me have safe and enjoyable first flight, with my new Q500. Even though it is HOT as hell here in Dallas Tx. I could only get in flight cause I was sweating all over the transmitter. Keep them coming.
I'm glad you found the video helpful! Nice to hear from a fellow DFW flyer too. I flew at Breckenridge park yesterday, working on another video for the channel. I was recording the transmitter screen and drips of sweat were literally splashing on the screen while I flew. Don't know how useful that will be LOL. Where'd you fly in Dallas? I want to find a good spot where I can catch the skyline some time.
I'm a USAF vet myself, got out after Desert Storm. Getting together to fly sounds like a great idea! You might find yourself in one of my videos though LOL.
Jeff, an absolutely superb instructional video. Professional class video in every way. Thank you for your time and effort, it paid off big time. I just received my Yuneec Q500, I haven't even unboxed it yet which is unusual for me. Normally, I fly first and read later. That's what I have done with all of my previous RC aircraft including my beginner quadcopters with reasonably good results. I wanted to "do it right" with the Yuneec though and your video is by far the best I have found yet. I haven't searched yet but it appears you have a series of videos covering this drone which will be very useful and much appreciated. Thanks again! :-)
Thanks, robonik! I'm glad you found the video helpful. You'll find several dozen videos on the Q500 and Typhoon H on my playlist at ua-cam.com/play/PLKNqtWs7eHBX3d5siZsfELfbL4kRWsyde.html
Fantastic Jeff. I've worked on various professional video projects throughout my life and worked closely with the behind-the-camera production staff, post-production, and the talent. Your work on UA-cam is technically impressive and the content is delivered in a comprehensive, highly organized and appealing style. If I had to guess I would say that you have professional experience in video production. Thanks again for the great work and directing me to your playlist, Robin
That's really nice of you to say, but I have no experience with video editing prior to starting this channel. I've spent a lot of time studying youtube videos on other channels though, that's for sure!
+OctoberLandon Thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful. I've got more basic videos and some advanced videos planned for the coming months - by the time I'm done the Typhoon H will be coming out and I'll have to start over LOL.
+Doug Taylor thanks Doug! The likes and subscribes really do help the videos rank higher so other people can find them, and that helps my channel a lot!
These are great videos and very informative. I’m expecting my Yuneec 500+ in 24 hrs and can’t wait to give it a try. I love these videos as they are easy to use and follow. I’m hoping to have many hours of fun and taking some excellent photos and video footage.
You'll enjoy the Q500 - it's so stable and easy to fly. Just be careful in the wind, as it tends to spin around in windy conditions. But otherwise it's a great first drone.
This video is outstanding for a newcomer like me. You will surely have lots of subscribers as more pilots begin flying Yuneec products. I especially like the background music. Your voice is calm yet firm and gives confidence to the new pilot that she or he can complete the steps you outline. The split screen is another powerful visual aid. I have noticed that other videos either show the aircraft or the ST-10 controller, whereas one can see the nexus between the two in your work. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video series and for sharing your expertise. Wishing you a Happy New Year.
+Lou Aymard Thanks for the great feedback! I really tried to target this series to people like you, who are just getting started with the q500. I've got at least three more videos planned for the series, and other videos planned on top of that, so I expect this year to be pretty busy.
Excellent series (class!) so far sir. I've never been more excited to learn. Great job on the videos, a tremendous help above & beyond the user manual. Thanks
Thank you melanie. The Q500 is in its later product stages, but it's so stable and reliable that you're right, you should be able to enjoy it for a long time to come.
First flight was fun but short. A little too windy but the Q500+ stayed in the air. I didn't take it more than 15 feet in the up. I will fly again when it's not so windy out. Still flew easy and very well considering the wind conditions. Glad I have this.
+Omar Calhoun Wind is what causes me not to fly more than any other factor. If it's higher than 9 mph I just don't take off. I use uavforecast.com to find little pockets of time where the wind lets up enough for me to fly, so sometimes I'm doing it early in the morning or around dusk. I hope you get a good opportunity to fly soon!
Hello Mr. Sibelius Sir, hats off and thank you very much for your awesome Q500 guide !!! Your work is priceless and a MUST see, not only for me. Subscribe & thumbs up is given. THANK YOU !!! kind regards, Frank
+Frank Mende Thanks, Frank! It's exciting to hear that these videos are actually helping folks out. I'm assembling the next episode right now so I should have something posted soon.
Great video !!! I'm just learning to fly I have a blade Nano. I hope to purchase the Yuneec Q500 4K+ around April. I will keep watching your videos and learning more about the Q500 !!! Thanks from Ga. Danny
+Danny Whitlock Thanks! You're doing things very wisely - this is the same approach I used. I started with a Blade Nano, then got a couple outdoor toy quads to practice with wind. My first A/V quad sat for almost a month while I practiced flying the toys to be competent and confident before putting $1000 in the air for the first time. April will be a very interesting time. Yuneec will be coming out with their new Typhoon H hexacopter at that time. You should be able to find some good prices on the Q500 4K. I've got three different videos partially shot and I'm working all of them now. This weekend I plan to shoot the raw footage for two more videos (although those two will not be aerial). So I should have several more videos coming out soon!
+dheller777 It really is a nice quad to fly, remarkably smooth and reliable. It's not fast at all but it does what it does very well. If that's what you want from flying, you'll love the Q500.
@@JeffSibelius Your welcome! I have watched ~Many Videos! before attempting to fly my Yuneec Q500 4K for the first time & "This video" *Your Video* is the one i went with... And i had a very successful first flight and many more after that... I Always make sure i am in *Rabbit Mode* at take off, and all of your other tips for first flights... Thank you again my Friend!.. U... R... a GR8 Teacher and instructor regarding my Yuneec Q500 4k Drone...
Jeff great video very helpful I am just getting started with drones and the Yuneec Q500 4k is the drone I want to get I am starting with the simulator they sell first I figure better to crash it on the computer then for real thanks again. Winfield
LOL there's nothing wrong with doing that, Winfield. I think you'll feel pretty comfortable with the controls in no time. When you go out for your first flight, just follow these few steps: 1. make sure you've done your calibrations 2. pick a day with little or no wind 3. Keep the aircraft pretty close to you for your first flights 4. Fly in turtle mode - keep it slow so you have time to react 5. If you take off in Smart mode, be sure to put the aircraft farther than 26 feet away from you before you take off. 6. Finally - when in doubt, let go of the sticks. The quad will sit and hover until you regroup and figure out what you need to do.
+OctoberLandon One of the videos I have planned for the near future is a closer look at Smart and Angle modes. I'm going to try hovering one aircraft over the demo craft to show what the demo is doing more clearly. There are also some additional benefits for using Smart or Angle that often get overlooked so I'll explain them as well.
Great aircraft. If you can afford the Q500 4K you'll love the better camera, but the Q500+ is a great way to start - that's what I did. The extra battery is a big help. You can find 3rd party batteries for much less than Yuneec batteries and they work great. Check out carolinadronz.com to see what's available. The Yuneec case is ok but it's not very durable and it's a pain to lug around. Check out my video on accessories for the Q500 from $50 - $500 - there is a case you can buy for $55 or so that is far better., It's larger, but it has wheels and a handle and is a lot sturdier. I'm doing this from memory - if you don't see it in the video I just pointed to, check out the other accessories video for up to $50.
Absolutely. Will do; probably later this week or this weekend. I just got it yesterday; do I need to calibrate accelerometer and compass now or I can wait? How about the binding? Is that necessary?
+Vic Startsman you should not have to bind the aircraft of the transmitter. It should have shipped to you already bound. I would encourage you to go ahead and do a compass and accelerometer calibration even though it probably isn't necessary. It doesn't hurt to do it and that way you can be confident that you're ready to go.
Jeff thanks with all your help on my first Q500 flight. Your videos do trick. Only got in one flight though cause it's so Damn HOT here in Dallas Tx. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!!
Jeff Sibelius New Yuneec Q500 owner. First test use went good thanks to your tutorial videos but second attempt, the left control button controls the Quad fine but when attempting to toggle left and right to move the Quad camera no luck...it will not move. The right controls work fine. Have you had this happen?
You want to check with mode are in 1 or 2, also I can't remember off the top of my head, but try calibrating your transmitter controller. There are a few UA-cam videos on how too.
What certificate are you waiting for? You must register with the FAA, but once you do that you're legal to fly. Just go to federaldroneregistration.com/ - in five minutes you'll be ready to fly! If you want to fly commercially, meaning you want to get paid for flying, that's when you need the Part 107 Certificate. That program doesn't start until the end of this month.
+907nvl I'm glad you liked it. I do have more in the works . . . some are for beginners but I'll move into some videos of interest to more advanced owners as well. If you have any suggestions for videos or questions you want answered, post them here!
Thank you! This was a very helpful video. I just got this drone yesterdayamd flew it for the first time. Nearly lost it in the wind. Got very lucky it some how cleared a wall and landed on it's own. Good thing I was on empty housing development. I was used to pilot mode and didn't realize what smart mode was doing to my controls. Are you in Dallas by chance? I think I saw a dart bus haha.
Hi Jesse - I'm glad the video helped! The Q500 is a great drone but the wind really is a weakness for this drone. I'm in Dallas and I enjoy flying with subscribers! Join my facebook group . . . I post there all the time about looking for fellow dronies to fly with in this area. facebook.com/groups/207962269731489/
GREAT video's sir. It is good to note though that your video's also applies to Chroma. With that said I have a question? When you change the geofence in the firmware to set the boundaries for smart mode, I am guessing this is also changing the geofence for AP (angle mode as well. If it is not and an entirely different setting PLEASE advise. Setting the distance is a must since I have very close neighbors and do not want to fly in their yard. I have been poking around and noticed the lowest boundary setting is 20 meters. Can I set a shorter distance? Thank you in advance for your response. Best Regards
+jay j Hi Jay - I have to admit I don't know the answers to your questions. I extended my geofence limits out to the max distance I would fly and just haven't tried going beyond that. I'll see if I can find out tho
+jay j One thing did occur to me about this . . . if you fly in SAFE mode, setting your geofence lower than 20 meters gives you a very small window for flying - that safe boundary around the transmitter is 26 feet, or about 9 meters. That means you would be restricted to flying in an area only 11 meters horizontally between the two restricted zones.
The Q 500 uses a dynamic home point so your whole point is wherever it last saw your transmitter. So if you take off and walk 100 feet away the Q 500 will think of that spot where you're standing hundred feet away as your home point. If you walk 100 feet away and then go a little further and loose connection to your drone from your transmitter The Q 500s home point will be the last place it actually knew where your transmitter was. Where you calibrate your compass has no effect on your home point.
I would like to get the Typhoon H or Phantom 4. Just that I can't afford it at the moment but if I do eventually get a Typhoon H, I'll for sure go back to this video before I fly it. It's very informative.
+PhotoVideoSamplesEtc I'm glad you found it helpful. There will be some differences on the Typhoon H I'm sure, but a lot of it will be relevant. I plan to get an H as soon as they're out, so at some point I may have a first flight video for it as well, if the differences justify it.
Thank you so much i appreciate all your hard work/set up. I am picking up mine tomorrow....what is the best way to land it for a newbie? Also can i put the speed in between the turtle and rabbit mode? Finally do you know if the regular box comes with the sunshade? Or just the bundle. Regards :)
Hi Tek. As far as landing, as long as you're not flying in windy conditions, I encourage you to land manually. When you hit RTH it may not come down right where you want it - like on a bush, a curb, a nearby car LOL. Just get the quad to about 6-8 feet off the ground and slowly bring it straight down to the ground. You can put the speed between turtle and rabbit - it's a slider so you can choose any speed between the two extremes. You should get a sun visor with your Q500 but it's really awful. I recommend getting something like this: www.ebay.com/itm/PRO-Sun-Hood-shade-Yuneec-Typhoon-quad-q500-ST10-transmitter-5-5-/121926976865?hash=item1c636a0561:g:6EwAAOSwUuFW1iZP
Hi Jeff ,does the q500 return to home backwards or forwards, I am seriously thinking of getting one of those Birds and yes, I know it is an old machine now but at least you can still get the parts and stuff for it , so not a problem ,take care Mr.Sibelius ,very nice review .
Hi Jeremy - thanks for posting! I had to watch this video again to remind myself . . . the Q500 flew backwards as it returned to home rather than rotating to point back at home. Now, if the drone were pointing sideways when I triggered the home button, I'm guessing it would come back while pointing sideways. I always loved flying the Q500. It was a very stately aircraft. Its biggest challenge to me was how it handled wind . . . it was like a flying frisbee sometimes. So I moved on to other drones that can handle the wind better. But the Q500 was pretty much my first drone so I will always like it!
@@JeffSibelius ,thank you very much Sir and have a great day .Oh and keep those reviews coming cause I am not seeing you at all these days ,take care and stay safe .
+Joe “Hose A” Cerda I use Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, and it's a pretty simple program to use. Movie Studio has 90% of what Sony Vegas has and costs a fraction of the price. The Movie Studio suite comes with Sound Forge Audio Studio, which I use to clean up my narrations, and a dvd creating program in case you want to output to a DVD to watch on TV. I bought a copy of Cyberlink's Power Director on a Black Friday sale but haven't yet installed or tested it. This is supposed to be an excellent program as well.
Do you still have the drone? The reason I ask is everyone is selling them I just brought one with the fly more package and it has everything now that I see everyone purchasing them I’m wondering if I should have brought it since I stayed near an airport I get the no-fly zone error light
You'll need to fly the drone further away from an airport . . . DJI and Yuneec drones have the no fly zones built into them. The only drone worth buying that doesn't have the NFZ is Autel, but you don't want to fly anywhere close to an airport anyway.
Very good video! I bouth Yuneec Q500+ and had my first tour today after first to download firmawere to drone and ST10+. I begin in smart mode. It was strange to fly. Before I fly DJI Phantom and I had nose and camera forward. In smart mode It was diffrent. First this safty circle and sticks was strange fore me. But I understand that I had to set st10+ In Angel mode. Then camera/nose be like I use before. I have a question. Do you calibrate every time?. Some says that only after firmawere download and If you travell moore than 10 Miles. But how drone find home if not calibrate?. In angel mode, If drone is to far away. Can you set over to home mode?. I bouth this With carbon case and 2 battery+ many other thing.
+teknofil007 If you have flown a Phantom, the Safe mode on the Q500 will feel very strange. I encourage you to get familiar with Smart mode though. You can use this mode to create some videos that you can't do in Angle mode. I do not calibrate every time. I calibrate when I do a firmware update for sure. I also calibrate if I go long distances. Calibrating after each flight is unnecessary though. I drove almost 1000 miles away from my last point of calibration and flew without recalibrating, with no problem. I typically do a calibration every month or so just to be sure. Your Q500 will set its home mode based on where the transmitter is. If you don't lose your signal the quad will return to your transmitter even if you move after you launch. If you lose signal the quad will return to its last known position for the transmitter. This happens automatically. You don't have to do anything to set a home position other than establishing your GPS connection when you start the aircraft and transmitter.
+Jeff Sibelius Hei Jeff! Thanks fore answer Its help me to understand moore. On my phantom I had to calibrate every time. And my phantom was Ustabil so after some time I sold It. And now Im a owner of Yuneec Q500+. I had only 1 test In smart mode. Nexst time I will use angel mode. In begining sender and drone wait fore Gps signal. Its Intresting and good to know that calibrating every time Its not necessary. Your video Is very good! You exsplain so other can learn easy. Thanks agein!
I've been looking around for an answer to this, Devon, and I can't find a definiteive answer. Check out the channel Gadget Guru at ua-cam.com/users/TheVOGdotNet - some time ago he did some videos on the Typhoon G that were very good, and he may answer that question. I was able to fly the Q500 with the Wizard while using a wifi connection, so I'm guessing that you can, but that's a guess - I don't want to give you inaccurate information.Do me a favor - if you do find the answer to your question, would you mind posting that information here?
Jeff Sibelius will do, i am going to take out my drone to an open field and test it out, i will let you know how it goes, thank you for the information, I will also check out that video see if i could get some sort of idea
what i dont understand is if you manual land it you want to avoid going straight down because of what you called vortex ring, but in home mode it seems the quad lands straight down?
that's a great observation. vortex ring state occurs when you descend too quickly straight down into the turbulance created by the props. You'll notice in home mode it descends very slowly - and that's the reason why.
hello have a question what happens if u fly the drone out to far and lose signal will it fall from the sky? or automatically reuturn to home if its in smart mode?
hi Jeff! thanks for your videos they are really helpful !! ;) ... i did my first fly with my new Q500, it was great but battery discharged after around 15 minutes (i saw the alarm on ST10 display) is it normal?? i thought i could fly for around 25 minutes... is there any tip to maintain fly more minutes than 15 minutes ? thank you in advance for your reply ;)
Hi Fabio - sorry, just saw this . . .. 25 minutes is marketing hype. If you get 17 or 18 minutes, you're doing well. Best way to keep your batteries healthy is to charge them just before you use them, don't leave them charged for several days and run them down to the warning messages before you recharge them. Also, keep them out of heat and direct sunlight.
Hi just wanted to know if you could help me out been out with the q500 4K the other day holding GPS fine but it seems to be rocking from side to side not a lot though what do you think it could be
Rocking side to side? My first thought is you should calibrate the compass and accelerometer. A bad calibration can cause a cyclical pattern, like a toilet bowl effect. If that's not it can you put a video of it online and post a link?
Hi Robert - at this point, no. There are more capable drones on the market now, even in that price range. And Yuneec has completely fallen apart for consumer drone owners - I wouldn't count on getting parts for a Q500 if you needed them.
@@JeffSibelius Thanks for the reply. Would would you recommend for a purchasable drone? I really like the idea of having the camera display on the RC controller instead of having to use your phone plus the RC controller together. If you were to purchase the Q500, what would be the maximum amount that you would be willing to pay? But you're right, there website doesn't have much for replacement parts. This sucks cuz I really like the way it looks and the extra controllers that helps with the angle of recording the video.
@@robertpolanco1831I really, really wouldn't buy a Q500 at this point at any price. The drone has been discontinued for several years and I really worry that it is essentiall a disposable drone at this point; I just don't know if you can get parts to replace anything that breaks, including batteries. If you're really invested in the Q500, call Vertigo Drones to see what their availability of replacement parts is. They are probably the top Yuneec repair company now. I love the built in view screen as well. But if thats your priority you really have two choices. Q500 or Typhoon H. Of those two I'd go with the Typhoon H. It's a MUCH more capable drone, it has six motors, a better camera, and is just a more capable drone. Its viewscreen is better as well. Like the Q500 parts may be an issue, but it's a newer drone sohopefully parts won't be as much of a problem. Again, call Vertigo. The more I fly the Mavic Air 2, the more I'm impressed with it. And now it is compatible with the Smart Controller, so it gets you away from using a phone . . . at a price, of course. Honestly, the best drones you can get would be the Mavic Air 2, Autel Evo, Fimi X8 SE 2020 or Mavic Mini. Probably in that order. If your budget can afford more, the Phantom 4 drone is awesome and you can get the Crystalsky monitor, which is awesome compared to a smart phone. Or you can go with the Mavic 2 zoom or pro; I think the Smart Controller works with both of them.
I haven't used my Yuneec 4K in four years. lol This video refreshed and taught more than I knew. Now I'm headed outside, with notes, to practice. Thanks a lot!

One of the best videos available for new Q500 flyers. Nice job!
Thanks!
This is a prime example of how to make a "how to" video. Very nicely done.
Thanks, Dave - I'm glad the video helped. This has been my most viewed video and I try to use it as a template for tutorial videos I produce now.
After watching it, I subscribed to your channel, and will be watching more.......if I can find the time. LOL
LOL I know how THAT goes.
I just got a Q500+ and I appreciate the videos. Thank you from South Haven Michigan!
+Omar Calhoun My pleasure, Omar - be sure to post after you've done your first flight! I'm always interested in hearing what people think of the Q500 after they get to fly it.
Superb video, thanks Jeff. Getting my Q500 today, your video makes me feel a lot happier about my first flight.
Great tutorial! This is first class teaching.
Thanks for an awesome video.
Thanks, Tony!
Bad weather stopped me for flying. But it's going to be nice Sunday and I will definitely let you know immediately after I fly. Thank you for following up with me. I'm excited to take flight.
Easy to understand - worth watching - especially for beginners.
Great video. Thank you. I just got a Yuneec 500 4k. This is very helpful.
Just bought a used q500 4k. Thanks for the straight forward lesson on flying the quad
I just did the same. How is yours holding up!?
Great job on putting this video together. I expect this will make my first flight more successful. You presented information in concise logical manner . Thank you for your efforts.
+Paul Janouskovec Thank you Paul, I appreciate that. Look for a couple new episodes in this series in the next two weeks, depending on weather.
Thank you for a great series of videos. I am an absolute first timer but feel you have given me the confidence to fly safely
+Jonathan Vaux That's great! Have you purchased a Q yet?
Jeff....amazing job on the video with great voiceover. I learned so much watching this one. Thanks!!
Thanks!
I received mine in the mail today and will start my testing on it as soon as possible. Although I am an experienced quad pilot and have owned a few gps quads already, your video has certainly prepared me for what to expect from the Q500. Thanks
+JPG23 I'm glad it helped!
My Yuneec Q500 g arrives tomorrow. Thanks for these series of videos. Very informative and as a complete newcomer very very useful. Thanks again.
Jeff did you ever get to the UK when you were in USAF?
I never did - I only got as far as New Jersey LOL. I was stationed in NJ, Abilene TX and southern CA.
That's exactly what I want to hear. You'll love the simulator. It's a lot of fun to play with.
LOL you should have no problem with the controller then - and the Q500 won't fly fast enough for you to get too fancy with the banks and curves LOL
Very nice, Jeff. Your vid is like putting me right in the driver's seat before my first flight.
+Tom Mack Great! I'm glad it's helping you get started!
Great vid. Building up nerve to go for my first flight. This helped A LOT!!! Thanks!
Awesome! I'm glad it helped. If you choose a good place to fly that is free from obstructions, keep the drone in turtle mode and keep the drone fairly close, your first flight should be safe and fun!
@@JeffSibelius Great ideas. ..and thanks again!
My son just got the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K. Amazing drone. Thanks from Texas!
Thanks! I'm glad you found the video to be helpful.
Brilliant! Just bought a second hand one and was bewildered by the options. Sadly as I am near an airport I can't get to test it until tomorrow but I can wait.. just. Great informative video.
Excellent video! Just received my Q500. Can't wait to fly it. Thank you!
Glad the video helped - have fun with your Q!
Just what I needed.I will take this along when I attempt my first flight. Thanks!
Great video ! Thank you for some very informative tips !
It is NICE TOO KNOW YOU ARE HERE IN BIG-D!!!! I flew out in Lancaster at Valley View College.
You look around my age TOO LOLOL. I'm just retired NAVY guy. Would you like to get together sometime?
Lancaster . . . I haven't flown in that area yet. I get around to a lot of places around the Metroplex but I'm always looking for more good spots.
I'm a USAF vet myself, got out after Desert Storm. Getting together to fly sounds like a great idea! You might find yourself in one of my videos though LOL.
Really nice put together video! I will be buying the Yuneec Q500 4K in the next few months and this video will really help me get started! Thanks!
+Byron Gillespie thanks Byron! In a couple months you may be able to get the 4K even cheaper than it is now - it's a bargain at its current price too.
Thanks again for the great work and directing me to your playlist,
Robin
That's really nice of you to say, but I have no experience with video editing prior to starting this channel. I've spent a lot of time studying youtube videos on other channels though, that's for sure!
That is amazing you are very talented and generous. Thank you again for your time and effort.
Jeff, my UAV is a model Typhoon Q500 4K are all of your Yuneeq videos applicable to this model?
Exactly what I was looking for. Great flow to video. Good work.
Thanks!
Very useful video, one of my favorites for the Typhoon!! Thank You and your work is very appreciated!!
Thank you, Michel - it really is good to hear that the videos are helping people feel safer and more confident in their flying.
Excelent video and series! Just bought mine yesterday and watching your videos has been very helpful! :-) Thank you very much! :-)
I'm glad you found it helpful!
very good instruction on how to pilot the 500. well done
Thanks!
Very well made video.
Full of information delivered in a methodical way.
I wish I had seen this video before my first flight.
Wow! I was looking for a video that would explain basic aircraft control. I'm so glad I found you. :-)
+OctoberLandon Thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful. I've got more basic videos and some advanced videos planned for the coming months - by the time I'm done the Typhoon H will be coming out and I'll have to start over LOL.
Hi Jeff, much appreciate your videos. Made setup, calibration and first flights easy and painless. Very glad you made these.
Thank you, Marina. I'm putting out several Typhoon H videos right now, but I have more Q500 videos in the works!
Well thought out and comprehensive videos. Thanks for the help.
+Jon G. Thanks, Jon, I appreciate that.
Thanks Jeff, your videos are very interesting and helpful.
Thank you David!
Well done Jeff! Thanks for posting. Liked and subscribed!
Hey Jeff,
Great job in explaining these basic operations. Just what I needed after getting one of these quadcopters.
Thanks Eric!
lndeed you are a very good teacher. Subscribed and liked!
Excellent video. Thanks for making a comprehensive first flight video for the Typhoon.
+wowfactorytv Thanks!
:)
These are great videos, thank you for making these.
Thanks, Mr. Q!
Excellent series (class!) so far sir. I've never been more excited to learn. Great job on the videos, a tremendous help above & beyond the user manual. Thanks
+DJ SOUL FORCE Thanks! Let me know if there are any questions I should cover in future episodes.
Thanks Jeff! I don't know if this could have been done any better! Nice work! :)
Thanks, Scott! I appreciate that. I'm now working on a first flight video for the Typhoon H, very similar to this one. I hope to have it out shortly.
absolutely great instructional video Series ! Thanks
Thank you Charlie - I'll have a new one coming out here very shortly!
Thank you so much for this video. Super helpful.
Thanks Tim, I'm glad it helped!
My pleasure, Tim. Glad it was helpful for you
really like your no nonsense videos. I can learn a lot from you and enjoy my drone for many years.
I recently purchased this same model for my production company. You tutorial great. .
Hello Mr. Sibelius
Sir, hats off and thank you very much for your awesome Q500 guide !!!
Your work is priceless and a MUST see, not only for me.
Subscribe & thumbs up is given.
THANK YOU !!!
kind regards,
Frank
+Frank Mende Thanks, Frank! It's exciting to hear that these videos are actually helping folks out. I'm assembling the next episode right now so I should have something posted soon.
Great tutorial. Thaks for taking the time to make and post this video.
+Jeff Sibelius Thanks, Jeff I will be watching more of your videos !!! Lots of knowledge and very informative !!! Thanks , Danny
Very nice video. Thanks you for sharing. I have several other quads and am also considering a quad from Yuneec. Fly safe!
+dheller777 It really is a nice quad to fly, remarkably smooth and reliable. It's not fast at all but it does what it does very well. If that's what you want from flying, you'll love the Q500.
Another *GR8* Video! Thanks ~Jeff~
Thank you, Philip!
Very helpful video thanks I got a question what is the screen size of the radio ST 10+........I know the ST10 SCREEN SIZE is 5.5"
I think the ST-10 screen is 4.5" and the ST-10+ is 5.5"
Thanks for your answer
Jeff great video very helpful I am just getting started with drones and the Yuneec Q500 4k is the drone I want to get I am starting with the simulator they sell first I figure better to crash it on the computer then for real thanks again.
Winfield
LOL there's nothing wrong with doing that, Winfield. I think you'll feel pretty comfortable with the controls in no time. When you go out for your first flight, just follow these few steps:
1. make sure you've done your calibrations
2. pick a day with little or no wind
3. Keep the aircraft pretty close to you for your first flights
4. Fly in turtle mode - keep it slow so you have time to react
5. If you take off in Smart mode, be sure to put the aircraft farther than 26 feet away from you before you take off.
6. Finally - when in doubt, let go of the sticks. The quad will sit and hover until you regroup and figure out what you need to do.
I will and I know it'll be fun to learn the sticks and capture some great pics and vids. Thanks again!
Thanks Jeff. Excellent tutorial. Good content
oh yeah, and thank for clearly illustrating the different aircraft behavior from Smart Mode to Angle Mode! :-)
Thank you for this very easy to understand
Glad it helped!
Thank you Jeff. Very nice. I'm about ready to Go for it and pull the trigger on a Q500+. I'd like to get the case and an extra battery! :)
Excellent. Thank you, Jeff. I should be receiving her today or tomorrow. :)
I want a full report after your first flight!
This is Episode 3 in a series of videos designed to help you complete a safe and successful first flight with your Yuneec Q500.
+Jeff Sibelius many big thanks Jeff. Thanks again from jogjakarta :)
+episodetujuh Thanks!
Thanks for the flight instruction.
Glad to help!
great video jeff! I purchased my first Typhoon Q5004k! waiting for my Certificate from the FFA to take flight! this video is very helpful!
+Jeff Sibelius I did register there I'm waiting for my digital copy! Hasn't arrive in my email yet
got it! your video helped me alot! safely landed! got 6gb of footage! :D cant wait to upload it!
Great video for the Q500! Hope there are more coming.
+907nvl I'm glad you liked it. I do have more in the works . . . some are for beginners but I'll move into some videos of interest to more advanced owners as well.
If you have any suggestions for videos or questions you want answered, post them here!
very good and informative video coverage of all of the functions. greeting from Galveston.
+Christopher Fleury Thanks! I'm glad you found the information helpful.
This is a great video!! thank you!
+mp.Studio.Works Thanks!
Join my facebook group . . . I post there all the time about looking for fellow dronies to fly with in this area. facebook.com/groups/207962269731489/
impressive. great job on the videos. looking forward to more videos
That means you would be restricted to flying in an area only 11 meters horizontally between the two restricted zones.
thank you Jeff. useful information about flying typhoon drone
Thanks!
Great teaching video.
great job! thanks from Italy. just a question, the home point on the q500-4k is the take off place or the last place where you calibrate the compass?
Thank you! Very helpfull!
Thanks!
I recommend getting something like this:
www.ebay.com/itm/PRO-Sun-Hood-shade-Yuneec-Typhoon-quad-q500-ST10-transmitter-5-5-/121926976865?hash=item1c636a0561:g:6EwAAOSwUuFW1iZP
Great video i have learnt a lot thanks
+Paul Hughes Thanks, Paul - I'm glad people are getting some value from the videos.
This is the best so far
+Jack Karmonpet Thanks Jack - this one took the most work and the others were all leading up to this one for sure.
I noticed here on the comment section A few people were considering the yuneec Drone I had just bought it good luck trying to get warranty work
great videos, what video editing software are you using?
+Joe “Hose A” Cerda I use Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, and it's a pretty simple program to use. Movie Studio has 90% of what Sony Vegas has and costs a fraction of the price. The Movie Studio suite comes with Sound Forge Audio Studio, which I use to clean up my narrations, and a dvd creating program in case you want to output to a DVD to watch on TV.
I bought a copy of Cyberlink's Power Director on a Black Friday sale but haven't yet installed or tested it. This is supposed to be an excellent program as well.
+Joe “Hose A” Cerda Joe - I just saw an ad for Power Director at up to 70% off. Might be worth checking out!
+Jeff Sibelius thank you...I will
Superb video! Thank you very much.
Thanks, John - I appreciate it!
Awsome you the best on the tube
Vary helpful, thank you so much
+Dan Dibble Thanks Dan! I think I just shot the last footage needed for my next video, so I hope ot have it posted soon.
Great video going to purchase A Q 500 4 K Soon
+Paul Hughes Thanks Paul! The Q500 is a terrific quad for aerial videography. You won't find anything that is much more stable.
Well done. SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks! Just get a Q500?
is it ok to run the gopro app while flying the typhoon G? i heard it is not a good idea due to interference with the wifi
The Q500 is designed to return to the transmitter's last known position if signal is lost - it's a great feature
hi Jeff! thanks for your videos they are really helpful !! ;) ... i did
my first fly with my new Q500, it was great but battery discharged
after around 15 minutes (i saw the alarm on ST10 display) is it
normal?? i thought i could fly for around 25 minutes... is there any
tip to maintain fly more minutes than 15 minutes ? thank you in advance for
your reply ;)
Jeff Sibelius will do thanks
I truly enjoy being in one of videos.
I'm planning to buy a used one for $450. For being so old of an item. Do you think it's worth buying at this time and price? Thanks
