- Gladiator II is an upcoming epic historical drama film directed and co-produced by Ridley Scott. Serving as a sequel to Gladiator (2000), the film was written by David Scarpa, from a story by Scarpa and Peter Craig, and stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington. It was produced by Scott Free Productions in association with Red Wagon Entertainment for Paramount Pictures. The story follows Lucius, the former heir to the Roman Empire, who becomes a gladiator after his home is invaded by the Roman army, led by general Marcus Acacius, during the reign of co-emperors Caracalla and Geta.
A sequel to Gladiator was discussed as early as June 2001, with David Franzoni and John Logan set to return as screenwriters. Over the next few years, Scott offered occasional updates, including the possible involvement of the original film's lead actor, Russell Crowe, and plot ideas around the Roman afterlife and different historical time periods. Development was halted when DreamWorks sold the rights to the property to Paramount in 2006.
The film was finally announced in 2018, and Mescal was hired in the lead role in January 2023, with a script by Scarpa. The rest of the cast signed on over the next several months, and filming took place between June 2023 and January 2024, with a five-month hiatus due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes (including the 2023 actors strike). Gladiator II is scheduled to be released internationally, including the United Kingdom, on November 15, 2024, and later in the United States and Canada on November 22.

Paul won an Olivier for playing Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire revival in the West End. Reviews used the words, "Brutal", "Terrifying", "Explosive". He possesses the range to pull a Gladiator character off, don't fret.

I'll probably watch because Denzel & Pedro are in it. Judging by the trailer, the plot of the movies seems chaotic. Also, it looks like switched the actor for the character of Lucius. Too bad they couldn't bring back the original actor to play that character as an adult 😕
My takeaway - Paul looks better in a skirt than short shorts
I’m so excited to see this, I could actually cry. 😭 If you had told me when I was a kid that 25 years from now, I would be watching the trailer for the sequel on my phone, my head would have exploded………and I would have been very confused. 😂
I reckon Paul Mescal could draw you in on a human/soulful level. Almost like he's out of his depth and it'll make the story more compelling

Looks great. It might not reach the rights of the first, but I will be happy if its close.
The music in the film is by a good composer (Harry Gregson-Williams) who has done loads of films, and Scott has used him before on The Martian, Kingdom Of Heaven, and The Last Duel. The modern stuff is sadly a thing the studios push in trailers these days.

Mescal is so far superior an actor to Russell Crowe, he's gonna bring actual humanity rather than pompous postering with faux gravitas and little truth.

The director feels he was or called him "perfect" for the role. He did not audition him for it. Ridley saw his breakout Baata winning series Normal People, called him directly for this film and that was that!

I love your first part with Russell Crowd. But in the sequel he faces a large and surprising cast and in his desire to achieve a good story. But that imperfection of including the rap theme in the trailer felt strange. But I hope it only happens there.
Ridley still a great filmmaker but his screenwriting was really problematic for napoleon,this is why Christopher Nolan surpassed him ..dark night, Oppenheimer,insterstellar are extremely well writed..with great pacing...

Absolutely hate the hip-hop in this. Couldn't they even just remix Now We Are Free? The music took me out of it entirely.
It's just a complete mood killer and such a daft decision from people who probably only put it in because it featured the word "coliseum" in the lyrics and they probably thought it was genius level creativity. Hans Zimmer's score for the original is absolutely iconic and remixing something from that with a slightly modern twist while staying faithful would have been so much better.
Let's hope there is no airplane in the sight.
