@@zephshoir yeah, I cant read it, but anime has basically made me able to understand when something is spoken... I can get by watching hololive japanese and that's good enough for me lol...
Actually, by just immersing yourself in the language, you can pick up on speech patterns, and get a rudementary layout on how the grammar works. Among vocabulary, etc, it's actually very viable. Think of babies learning their first words from mom, It's the same concept.
the surprising part about anime is how much more slowly its spoken versus, like say a Japanese news broadcast, or a talk show, or even when the IRL voice actors talk during their own radio shows. you can get pretty good at understanding anime without subtitles and still fail hopelessly at anything IRL (i know this because I tried haha)
@@wyatt5677 I doubt that bro. I've been watching subbed anime for over 20 years and only picked up on some words and statements. When they start going into long, complicated diatribes I'm totally lost. If you supplement watching anime with classes or self study then yes it's a huge help. By itself no way.
Gura is such a good student. She just sits still, listens while duct tapped to the chair and forced to never take bathroom breaks while balancing apples on her head and getting rick rolled.
The stream is absolute gold and surprisingly legit class for Japanese 101 (useful phrase learning). Prop to Kiara how she structure each word group, the flow went extremely well. I enjoyed the whole stream and please make this a series. I will watch everyone of them. Ps1. Gura learning speed is scary. Ps2. Otsukaresame! Seriously Gura put in so much brain power in this stream.
I am Japanese. There are hiragana, katakana, and kanji in Japanese. Hiragana and katakana correspond, so the only difference is the shape. However, there are 106 of them in all. (I usually use 46) The number of kanji exceeds 100000. It can't be counted. (I usually use about 2000) Kanji is difficult to remember even for Japanese people. In addition, it is said that the number of Japanese vocabulary is the largest in the world. However, I think that this ridiculous amount of vocabulary can capture the difference in small features. That's why I think Japanese anime and manga culture has developed.
Little did you know at the time you typed this that an interaction between Kiara and Gura on Twitter would basically solidify the meme that Kiara and Calli are Gura's mom and dad You know, the one where Gura posted her crude MS Paint drawing of her and Calli, and Kiara said "Good job, Gura! What a cute drawing of you and Papa...! So proud of you! I'll put it on the fridge OK? ❤️👍" twitter.com/takanashikiara/status/1364821115546165250?s=19

Kiara, in regards to English speakers asking one another "how are you?", or "how are you doing?". Most will simply respond, "I'm fine, you?". Not a question but a question with an answer. To ask "politely" how the other is in turn. This comes from a time of polite discourse and general greeting. Now before I go off talking about a plethora of issues that relate to that subject itself. In terms of language, it's use, and decay, alongside nations, and peoples. I will simply say that in general people anywhere use a statement like that, to speak civilly or politely. But the façade of manners or care is not the reality of it. I would say most who ask that anywhere, in any language; they're putting on airs of civility. One because they feel they have to. And two because they're not thinking. Most speak without giving much thought beforehand, operating automatically. Again for a myriad of reasons. So no, it is not an "English speaking" specific thing. Keep in mind, whom is speaking a language, has more to do with it, than what language is being spoken. Including decays and "influences" on those individuals. But of course, there's a long complex history in relation to languages and this Earth. Much of which I am overlooking here.
Things I picked up today: "How are you?" "Gura you?" Otsukaresame deshita. Oi oi oi maji fuzakenna. & finally Kiara and Gura would never gonna give us up, atleast not in Japanese. / In Kiara´s Class you get a 🍎. In other classes you get a ⭐. But the Beatles got 🍎⭐

52:25 Gura spitting facts here. After starting to properly learn japanese, I notice that I had already learned way more than I expected (both in vocabulary and grammar) just from anime. Gura's pronounciation is really good. Watching Japanese movie, drama and Anime really helps you a lot to pick up some words and able to learn it. Most likely anime because Voice actors do pronounce Japanese in correct way and can hear it clearly.
That's true, but hearing it pronounced correctly only gets you so far - more important is to try and mimic it, which I guess Gura did by learning japanese songs.
First: I'm sure we all know a special GRIM Student that Kiara would be most certainly loves to give SPECIAL Student privileges. ;) And I ALMOST knew what Kiara was doing when she had Gura speak those lyrics! There was so something familiar about the words. that I could not place it. And when Kiara finally revealed the truth, I just started to laugh for few straight minutes. :D One of few times to be thankful about loud workplace and wearing a air-filter mask and headphones (same with my co-workers). :D Great job Kiara with this little gag! XD But in all seriousness, I loved this Stream greatly! I have some little understanding of Japanese language, also thanks to Anime and other Japanese media. I even sometimes even take out some clips from my favorite Anime, to just listen to and try to speak the lines in there. And now the Hololive girls are now also other way to absorb Japenese. And this most certainly helped me a lot to learn even more. I might go and listen this more times in future (as I can be somewhat slow learner). Thanks Kiara for an educating Stream that was of course REALLY much fun! :D Of course thanks to Gura also, for being a good Shark Student to you. :) Just be awesome as always!

One good way to learn actual speaking Japanese that the way people talk is to check Yuta that Japanese Man. His videos show how Japanese people talk every day. So the stuff we learn in text books is overly formal and not natural when having a conversation, Yuta brushes us up with proper slang and speaking habits. Anyone who is interested should check him out. For instance in greetings when your name would be Nakajima Goro, you'd say. "Domo. Nakajima Goro desu." The desu can also change to da, or some other suffux depending on formality. Hajimemashite is super formal and usually used in business or formal setting, like when exchanging business cards or for instance, these gals in show business when greeting a manager or some attending some formal party. Also "Watashi no namae wa Nakajima Goro desu" is rarely used. "Watashi no namae" can be seen when reading a script, narration, etc and almost never used in casual greetings. Also Hello can be used for "domo", "ohayo", or "konbanwa". Also in show business (and corporate depending on the company) you never greet someone with "Konnichiwa/Konnichiha". You use Ohayo. yes ohayo means good morning but in a business sense no matter what time of day always greet someone with "ohayo" or "ohayogozaimasu". Using konnichiwa in business is frowned upon. Konbanwa which means "good evening" though in some cases can be used during the evening, but in most cases it's safe to use "ohayo". I'm still learning slang and it's hard to break away from formal business talk. And most business talk what we see in text books.
In Kiara’s defense, she did mention the “watashi no namae wa...” is super over correct, like “textbook” correct. It’s definitely not natural/conversational, but it’s definitely a good thing to learn the proper form first and then informal/casual later on.

Gura spitting straight facts about being able to learn Japanese from Anime
You definitely learn vocabulary but anything deeper nope

@@Meonium there is a lot of japanese learning app out there start by learning common words and phrases so you get used to it first
I am Japanese.

Kiara becoming the counterpart to Coco
Meanwhile Luna: _swears in English_
Things I picked up today:
"How are you?" "Gura you?"
Otsukaresame deshita.
Oi oi oi maji fuzakenna.
