I still remember the first time I heard Teen Spirit and Nevermind. May 5 1999. I was on a bus on an 8th grade class trip to Dc. The guy next to me offers me his portable cd player and gives me Nevermind. I hit play and the first few chords started to Teen spirit. Then the distortion kicks in and I remember the hairs on my neck started to stand up. By the end of the song my life was changed. I still, to this day, have never had anything even remotely close to that type of profoundness happen again. Those are the moments that make life worth living. Thank you Kurt , Dave , Krist and butch. You all changed my perspective on life for the better

When the audience booed the opening act to Nirvana and when Nirvana came on Kurt said "Since you booed our opening act, we aren't playing Teen Spirit."

I remember back in 1990 i was 7 years old and i was listening to rap music like crazy.. one day i walked in my living room and saw these 2 fingers making a power chord and then i heard the most amazing thing i had ever heard in my life.. Smells like Teen Spirit.. i through my oakland raiders jacket out and i found some old ugly clothes and put them on.. a green flannel and a ripped pair of jeans.. that was a moment that changed my life forever..

I agree with the whole "this WAS real music" part but the "Grunge died in 1994" part I disagree with. I think it was just the beginning. Nirvana started a legacy and once it was gone more awesome Grunge bands had their time to shine. Nirvana will always be the best Grunge band ever and all 3 members will always be the kings of Grunge.

why do people always have to put in some sort of negative comment when talking about nirvana? why can't we just say what an amazing and legendary band nirvana was and leave it at that? god forbid we leave videos on a positive note. to quote a few ' well nirvana's not the original grunge and they are not my favorite and blah blah blah. who fucking cares?? no matter what you say, nirvana's power was undeniable, and they have already gone down in history as this amazing band that changed music!!

    • @xxoxia

And without Butch Vig, the record wouldn't exist, so really, 4 people made it.

Yeah, a lot of people never realize that Bleach and that Butch Vig demo with Chad are what got Nirvana signed in the first place. Without either of those recordings, they never would have been able to record Nevermind as we know it. It would've been some stripped down, lo-fi, shitty Nevermind. A lot of people (including Kurt) try to act all cool and say that it would have been better that way, but let's face it, we've all heard Nevermind songs in that form in the box set... Nevermind is much better as it is.

I dont. dont misunderstand this, i know he couldnt have done it alone, ofc, but i think everyone involved in Nirvana music was replaceable except Kurt. and this is a raw, cold truth for some. his voice was very unique, his appearance very appealing, but whats really irreplaceable was his messed up mind. he was the brain of it all.

I love how the commentors in the video knew Kurt's every thought and claim that Kurt intended to cause a teenage angst ridden movement. Every interview with Kurt he expresses how his agenda wasn't that deeply calculated. As a fan that's what drew me in 2nd to the fact that the music was explosive. The fact that he didn't have to try and be cool or hype up the bands rep. Which in my opinion is what maded him great. Simply not being fake. :)

I was born in 1980 in Seattle. So i was young when nirvana became a huge force but when they became a global phenomenon I definitely remember the radical change from the 80's scene to the new 90's. They were like the Beatles at that point. And as a kid just hitting puberty the angst rang true. It was cold, it was rainy, it was dreary and it was easy to identify with. That said I was wearing ken Griffey jr. Shirts and refuse to lose, mariners shirts at the time.

my experience to music came from my uncle, who was a massive stereo fan, and a heavy metal metallica guy, which quickly became my favorite band. when he put in nevermind, i remember it so vividly, that album cover became gold to me, it was the only thing i wanted, but i was only 8 or 9 n wouldnt own it until i was like 13, via napster! walmart didnt have the tape. it was such a different sound to heavy metal an classic rock, which were my only two musical knowings, that an what i thought was shit pop radio music which ive grown to appreciate. wasnt till like 1999 when we got our first comp, and i lived on napster at bout 14 that i finally was able to burn the cd

I see that Nirvana would have wanted to even discuss their specific songs from In Utero. The way he just did Breed was so awesome. I'd like to know if Krist and Dave, and even pat could do that all over again with Nirvana, even if it's like a different parellel universe kind o thing, as in you can't really do the same exact stuff again. I enjoy most of the thought myself or people on vacation or living life and getting the experience of Nirvana live doing all their songs.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard Curt died. I happened to be visiting Disney World and a busboy in a restaurant told me. Probably because I was wearing a Nirvana shirt. All the blood drained out of my face.
I remember, later that day, telling "Goofy" to fuck off because Curt Cobain just died.

I wonder what else Kurt Cobain needed in life to be happy.....he probably thought if he left music, his fans would called him a "sell out"......I suppose it's not easy filling in everyone's expectations.....Kurt said once he would of loved to be the drummer in the band, were nobody really know's you....I think that says volumes to what Kurt was really about......being famous wasn't his MO....but he loved writing and playing music......you know there is plenty of musician's who write music and sell it to famous artist....there make a good living doing that....that's what Kurt should of done......I really think he would of been happy listening to his music on the car radio sung by pearl jam or sound garden etc.

He would of killed himself at some point no matter what. He talked and thought about it way before he was famous. He said he was going to be a famous rock star and kill himself at the height of his fame in the 7th grade. He proved he wasn't joking.

We don't know the future. Take a look at disco for instance; everybody said it died in the 70's but then somehow in the last 5 years, it's come back with a more modern feel to it. A lot of kids my age (I'm 18) are discovering bands like Nirvana everyday. There may be a resurgence of sorts, if not "grunge" then maybe a punk sound or experimental, or a metal sound mixed with punk elements. Who knows! Only time will tell.
