Safety Harbor Firearms KES (Kompact Entry Stock) Review
I SBR'd my Zenith Z-5P and wanted a good stock for it that would be compact. I was going to just get the Choate folding stock, but then I saw this and decided I wanted to try it out.
So far it's been a great stock. The product itself is good. Finish is nice, but the fit took some work. My lower pin couldn't make it through the stock hole. It seems they've updated their product description recognizing that. I just bored my hole out a tad with a drill and it fits perfectly.
The one gripe I have is that I tried contacting their customer service and never got a response from them, ever. I had emailed them to ask a question and also to let them know that their website was insecure and risking customer info. No response ever. They have since fixed their website (after I posted the insecurity publicly on Facebook groups so they were aware) but it doesn't seem that they care about customer info. The stock itself is good though. - Спорт

I am so pleased I found your channel as I have been trying to find retractable stock for my MKE AP5-P. The welded side plates on the end of the receiver prevent an A3 stock being installed and then read you have to have them grinded off and buy an adaptor etc. Now this beauty can slide between the welded side plates and your golden.
Thanks again mate.
Hey man, I am glad it could help you! Thanks for watching.
thanks for the insights brother. I get this is an older video now but it is still helping. Appreciate it man
Appreciate the kind words!
Great vid. Bought one for my MkE. Great addition! Thanks
Thank you!
Nice Gun brother. Love the growth of your channel. Keep it coming!
Haha, thanks brother! I'm working on some stuff then I'll be posting more stuff again.
Thank you for the info on the lack of customer service with harbour. Good video
Thanks for watching!
Very informative video..thanks!
Thanks!
Sweet looking setup
Thanks!
I've had the same experience with their customer service. I've been trying to get info on the KES tailhook setup for the full-size MP5. I finally just bought an HK stock and got it modded to take a tailhook. It cost me more, but I feel like it'll have better lock up and work out better long term.
Yeah it's really unfortunate because their stock is actually pretty nice. If they would just be a little more concerned with their customer's info and actually respond to customer service inquiries they'd be rock solid.
Good on you for calling on them for the security risk . Don't really sound like a company I want to do business with . Weapon looks killer !!
Yeah I was pretty bummed that they didn't really seem to care. Thanks! It's a super fun setup!
have you tried BT telescopic stock/brace. i have 3 of them. and i love how they deploy. i don't have to push the button!
I have not. I will have to check it out.
I love it
Thanks!
Nice gun dude. Basically a dream setup for me. I recently got a POF 5k which is a reverse stretch mp5. I'm looking into getting the Safety Harbor tailhook brace but I'm not exactly sure if the full size mp5 brace will work or not? I think it will because the rear end only has 1 pin which looks just like mine. Not exactly sure though. Hopefully they will respond to my email.
Thanks AJ! This was my dream setup as well and I love that I was finally able to get it. I think it should fit as long as your POF is made to spec for the platform. It may be a little tight as I mentioned in the video but I am sure it will fit with just a little bit of messing around, if you're okay with doing that. Hopefully they respond to your email as they never responded to me. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Can't find an mp5k tailhook version anywhere
Maybe I missed you discussing this. The MP5K and it’s clones have metal plates covering the stock channels on the receiver. Did you have to cut the plates in order to use this stock?
Negative. The plates don't cover the channel completely. They just kind of go over it. So the rails for the stock slide underneath the plates without any modification (at least in my case with the Zenith Z5P. I believe it's the same with other clones)
Love the gun! In order to have that stock did you need to SBR it?
Thanks! Yes, this is classified as a stock so you would need to SBR it to be legal. They do have the same setup with an arm brace, though.
Awesome thx amigo! Looks like their sites sold out=[ I’ll keep checking.
@@sbk567 Good luck!
What drill bit size did you use to open up the pin holes?
I don't remember off the top of my head. I just picked a bit that was snug in the hole or close to snug and slowly traveled around the inner diameter of the hole while I had the drill going. I took minimal amounts off until it fit.
Seeing this video is a few years old and assuming you still have it, how is the wear in the channels on the receiver? Do the stock rails take a toll on the receiver finish? How about the black oxide on the rails themself?
Still love the stock itself. Virtually no wear on the rails or in the channels. On a scale of 1 - 10 on how much wear there is, it's like 0.5 out of 10 (very faint marks if I get the light just right). But in full disclosure, I don't slide the rails back and forth too often. Typically only if I need to make it more compact for travel or storage. Otherwise I set it full length and forget it.
@@ArmatisReviews This is comforting news. I really do appreciate the reply. Thank you
@johns14m No problem! 👊
Hey I’ve been wondering, after it’s been fully extended, can you push the button again and pull the stock/rods completely out?
I do not believe so but I will try to double check and let you know if it does.
Thanks for the video. Is there an adapter that goes on the kes to use with a gearhead works tailhhook?
I swear they did when I bought my stock but I wonder if they took it down after the ATF released their new "ruling" on braces. You might want to ask them if they have those since that "ruling" isn't currently applicable. If not, they have a picatinny adapter for the back of an MP5k that maybe you could use to get something like that going?
You have to order the one for tail hook, don’t order the stock one. Tail hook sold separately.
@@acefrm1593 Good info! Thanks.
What optic mount are you using on your setup?
Dude sorry! I thought I had responded to this. At the time of this video I was just using the pic rail mount that came with the Zenith. I have since switched to a Midwest Industries MP5K Top Rail.
How sturdy is the stock? If you grab the but pad while fully extended and rotate it clockwise and counterclockwise, does it have a lot of rotational movement?
Hey Mark! Excellent question.
I feel that the stock is very sturdy, and I don't believe it would give any kind of rotational flex like you're asking about. I can try to remember to test it out tonight when I get home and give you a definitive answer. But my initial thought is: "No, not really".
Hey Mark, yesterday got busy but I tried it out this morning before work for you. Here's a video of the test. It has slight wobble because of the tolerances for the stock rails but it doesn't really rotate from the force after I stop twisting. It's an all metal stock and honestly pretty sturdy, I think. ua-cam.com/video/vy2Bne_tXuE/v-deo.html
I’m considering this stock for a Stribog. Can you comment on how much up and down play is in the stock when extended?
Great question. I just went and looked and there is virtually no play vertically. It's the slightest of movement.
Armatis Reviews Thank you!
Hey man just bought one. I put it on my AP5. The stock when extended wiggles. There's quit a bit of play. I was wondering if you have the same experience? Is it normal for this kinda of stock? It's a lil more play then I'd like.
Wondering this also🤔
Have you ever tried to fire it as a cheek pistol with the stock completely collapsed? I’m talking in a similar manner to the way demonstrated concepts cheek welds different pistols. Thanks in advance.
I'm afraid I haven't. Once I put the stock on I have used it normally. Why would you want to cheek it if it's SBR'd and has a stock?
@@ArmatisReviews much tighter package in tight spaces and easier to pie corners in, and around doorways in a HD situation. Also, just fun to try different things. Looks to be very viable in a cramped vehicle too. Thanks for the reply, and love the content. Take care fren.
@@honkhonk1555 That's fair. Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
@@ArmatisReviews Ayyy, look what just got posted. ua-cam.com/video/MGPxVfhpkYk/v-deo.html
I've tried to buy one but they seem to running into manufacturing issues. I bought the PTR 9kt but already had to send it back. I'll have my video up as soon as I get it back. Check us out at Info not Wars. Thanks man
Thanks for watching
Are you still running this stock???
there is not many stocks/braces available for the sp5/clone 2 pin... i wish the SB hpw was not so damn bulky
Yes I am. Still holding up well.
Where did you put the engraving on the firearm after you SBR’d it?
I put it in the channel on one side of the receiver. So it's still plainly visible but also doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
Isn’t this a brace? Why would you SBR it....
@@Incogpinoy1985 no
6:24 this is all i needed to hear really
Customer service is a big one for me, if they were behaving like this, its a deal breaker for me! even if it was 3 yrs ago.... They're not a big company and i'm sure the same people are still there...
Yeah it was a bummer for sure. Still haven't ever heard back from my inquiry :)
Got the length measurements for form 1?
Barrel: 5.8" (for the model I have, Z-5P), overall: 24"
@@ArmatisReviews Is 24” the length from stock collapsed to end of fixed muzzle device/barrel?
@@dylanz7567 Funny enough, the ATF has you measure the overall length with the stock fully EXPANDED, not collapsed, for an SBR (typical illogical sense for the govt) to the end of your muzzle without any devices screwed onto the muzzle. So if you have a like a 3lug adapter mounted on your muzzle, remove it for your measurement.
did your stock have any play at the connecting point?
Like where it goes into the receiver and has the pin pushed through?
Yessir I got a CZ Scorpion and while the rods are rock solid, the stock has some play and wobbles right at the hinge point that it connects to the gun. @@ArmatisReviews
@@adamaputesol1631 I just went to double check for you and no, mine is tight as can be. I am trying to remember but I seem to recall that it was a tad tight going into the receiver of mine. So, not sure on the scorpion, sorry. I don't have one. You could reach out to them and see if they have any insight.
I drove to Safety Harbor yesterday and they were surprised too, but it looks like my receiver is out of spec, and made of polymer. I put a thin strip of velcro loop into the groove where the stock slides into place, and the slop is gone. @@ArmatisReviews
@@adamaputesol1631 Right on! Glad it's all taken care of.
Any issues yet?
Nope. So far so good.
My Z5P is the smoothest shooting gun in my collection. I have a SB Folding Brace, and I’m selling it now to buy Safe Harbor’s Tailhook 1 model. Thanks for video & info. Check out some of my videos on my channel.
Did you ever get it? If so, how’s it holding up?
It’s a good brace, but I ended up selling it. I Eform1 the gun, and I have 3 stocks for it.
if anyone has an sp5k kes stock please lmk they sold out
Best of luck!
@@ArmatisReviews would you sell me yours by chance
@@TheSoymilkboy No, sorry man. I like mine.
Good start, but work on your audio as it's a little quite.
Thanks for the comment. I just got a new lavalier mic I am dialing in so that should help. Thanks for watching!
No place to rest your cheek on that stock, right?
I still dig my cheek into the stock. It's not the best cheek weld or the most comfortable but it works. It's not exactly a rough recoil weapon so it's not too bad!
Wonder how many of these “SBR” are really “SBR”
What do you mean?
I’m talking about someone just throwing a stock on their pistol to shoot it. And just claiming it’s a SBR so no one questions it. Lo
