The Goonies is my all time favourite movie. If I won the lottery, I would buy that house and open it up to anybody who wanted to see inside. The feeling I would have inviting people in the view a peice of their childhood history would be amazing!
In 2010 my son and I (on his 8th birthday) flew from Phoenix to Portland and then drove to Astoria for the 25th Anniversary Reunion Event. We stayed in a tent at Fort Stevens State Park and attended the events during the daytime, including the Walsh house. A truly remarkable experience. So glad we went!
I watched this movie so many times with my siblings and the best tume to see this is during summer and rainy season. One of the best movie upto now.Hey you guys!!!!

I'm British and I met Sandy years ago when visiting the house, while staying in Portland. She was a very friendly and welcoming lady, but I can see why over the years she's had her patience tested. Does anyone know if she is still the current owner? Seeing some of the locations of my absolute favourite childhood movie (along with The Lost Boys and Home Alone!) was an honor, and an experience I'll never forget. One thing that did surprise me was the Astoria-Megler Bridge! I think you're on it for else than 10 minutes from what I remember, but it seemed to take forever to cross! Astroia is a magical place and people who live there are extremely lucky!
It really brings alot of my childhood memories everytime I watch this movie because I can relate to some what these adventurous kids did when I was their age.

And now as of this comment we are only 8 months away from the 35 anniversary. The Goonies was released on my 6th birthday, so it will always hold a special place for me.
This is just amazing, I’m so happy the locals are earning for the success of the movie too. I hope the lady who owns the house and the her neighbours are also charging a fee for upkeep, maintenance and their lack of privacy.
I always said that the Goonies had one of the greatest opening scenes of any movie. It comes out of the gate swinging with a barrage of action; a prison break with a gasoline fire, a police chase with guns and a beachside car race. And, as if that weren't enough, it manages to incorporate the police chase into the introduction of EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Goonies in their own humorous scene except the Walsh brothers. And it manages to do all of this in just 5 minutes.

Who the hell buys such an iconic house and acts like the don't care about its legacy? Also, how on earth didn't that house cost her millions? Seriously, that neighbourhood should be bought by someone like Troy's father and turned into a Goonies theme park/museum.
I think what most of you are missing is that this is in a residential neighborhood where real families live. The house is not on a through street. You can't just drive past it and gawk at it. It's up on a hill on a private driveway along with a couple other houses within a larger residential neighborhood which forces fans to park a distance away and walk up to where it is- which is very intrusive to the families living there. In a perfect world, someone would build a replica of the house somewhere else in the commercial section of town and use it as a tourist destination. The problem with this is that not enough "Goonies" tourists come to Astoria to support such a thing.
My question is why buy a house that has such a cult following and you and your neighbors don't like being disturbed by fans that probably drove hundreds of miles to see it? Sell it to someone who appreciates it for what it is.
From what the owner said, it sounds like only a few people would come by when she bought it-- but then there was a Goonies anniversary and many more people started coming after that. I think she's pretty patient! 1000 people a day? Yikes!
@@bookdear I agree with you. Anyone over 40 knows what that house meant to them. We all can relate to this movie in some way. Between the Goonies and E.T., those were the pinnacle of life growing up in the 80's. One day I want to make the trek up to Oregon to see this homeland Mecca as well.
Ha! You need someone who was born in the 80's to buy the house from her so that 1. she can live a quiet life somewhere else in Astoria and 2. the new owner would understand what The Goonies means to people and find a way to control the tourists. Perhaps put the house back to how it was as a set and run tours. Just an idea. Everyone loves their privacy and people visiting should be respectful, but let's face it. This house is a memory to many people.
As an 80's kid I totally agree. If I could buy that house I'd do pretty much the same thing. Any 80's kid would own that house if they could do and profit from it as well. A dream for so many.
it's to bad the town of astoria did'nt take the pirate ship ,,it was offered to anyone that wanted it for free, they could of made a lot of money charging tourists, big mistake.nobody took the ship so they destroyed it.
I don't know what the heck the lady is complaining about. I would quit my job and she said a thousand people a day want to see the house. Charge 100 bucks each to let them go in and walk through for 5 minutes. Do the math that would be 100,000 grand a day. You would make a million bucks every 10 days. That house is so valuable id pay 10 million for it because I know I could tipple that money in one year. Some folks dont think straight. You could even charge 50 extra to let the really Big fans go up into the attics where they found the treasure map. Im not kidding when I say Id pay that lady 500 bucks just to let me walk around in there for 5 minutes including the attick. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to actually be up there.
When I visited for the 30th Anniversary, she let us go up into the attic, but the attic scene was actually filmed on a set because of the extreme difficulty of hauling equipment and crew up into the real attic.
I remember seeing the house for sale on Ebay for $300K around 1998. I was in high school and so pissed I wasn't able to purchase the home. That house wouldve paid itself off in no time
