this content is wonderful, short and sweet, thorough and entertaining. thank you for your excellent work, I hope to see you return at some point in the future.
Thanks for your review presentation on the DC40. The DC40 was my introduction to digital cameras. I bought mine in 1996 and still have it. In fact, I even bought (and still have) the Tiffen Telephoto Converter Lens (1.5x37mm). However, I cannot find my serial to 8 Pin mini connector cable. Might just have to pick one up and shoot some low-res pix for old times sake. Thanks again.
if you guys want to play around with one of these get the DC 50 !!! its a big difference. it has a PC CARD SLOT (so you can put a compact flash card in it) you still need a special program to convert the "raw" file format it uses. IIRC the program is called UFRAW which will convert to another format EPS I think? but that format can be read by irfanview. It also has a color LCD screen :-)
Wow thanks for this! I just got one of these in an auction lot of old cameras, and it actually works! A testament to the build quality you mentioned. My first experience with digital cameras was the Coolpix 950 in around 2000. So amazing this technology existed way before that. Now if I can just find an old serial cable and a Windows 98 machine🙂😝
Did you ever find a serial cable? I received one and it had 47 pictures on it still, thought that was crazy. They said they only lasted a year but it makes sense the flash chips would store the data for longer than that since it's not going anywhere or requiring any sort of battery backup.
My final year university project in 1997 was to help build a Google Streeview type program with Macromedia Dreamweaver and thousands of photos taken using this camera. I had the job of stitching the photos together using a special program and putting in the hotspots manually. These days Google does all this stuff with an automated process but it is pretty much the same.
So the shitty red wasn't just MY camera. Good to finally know that after 25 years. I still have mine buried in the closet somewhere in pretty much mint condition. Was very happy to learn that IrfanView was able to handle the .kdc format when nothing else would. Certainly was NEVER worth the A$999 I paid for the bloody thing.
I just got one of these today. It appears to be in good working order.. i just was able to push the 1.5 firmware update to it, however I'm missing software for it. i find one called "pta31.exe" but I've tried to install this and every attempt gives me an error that says "general file transfer error.. ...error number -42" I also have a macintosh which has the same serial port (quadra 650 OS 7.5.5) and I'm trying to install the software on either a windows xp machine or windows 98se machine). Anyone know some software that really works and installs properly? do I really need "software" or maybe I just need some twain drivers?
Heh, thanks for that, I appreciate it. The truth is I haven't been able to fully commit to this channel yet, because of life stuff, so I haven't been calling much attention to it. As soon as I get my stuff together I'll be sure to start pestering friends and family to sub, so as to get the ball rolling.
Please come back your contents very good.

Amazing, one friend of mine just found it at home and gave it to me as a present ah ah ... I have now understood I can use it 😁
Cool man :) did you end up taking some pictures with it?
I have this camera but no wire to connect to a pc. Do you know the ref of this item?

I don't like seeing an item being dismantled.
How don’t you have subs again?
