Why it's harder to write an essay than a fanfic, by someone who is pretty decent at essays (at least in uni on a computing course). 1- deadlines. Fic writers generally only have deadlines set by themselves, and the guy who set them is a tool anyway. Essays? Deadline set in stone. Result: Pressure. 2- conciseness. Essays, especially shorter ones, require that you display comprehensive knowledge of the subject in very few words. Getting the right info in and cutting back on the waffle is tough. Fics: I can assure you that 70% of my words in any given fic classifies as waffle. 3- research. Getting into a research rabbit hole for an essay gives you maybe one or two useful sources, but wastes a lot of time. Finding the information needed for citations is somehow worse than finding the paper itself. Fics: you can use the results of your uni essays research rabbit holes to get your next plot point. Most other research rabbit holes wind up useful in some way too. No need to cite.

To the point of the last one, the reaction time of fanfic/original fic readers to something being stolen is unmatched. I had a work of mine stolen and posted elsewhere two or three times (the same fic) and by the time word got to me, without fail, people were already reporting the bajeezus out of it and it was down within the hour of me hearing about it. The fic reading community is nothing to be trifled with. This happened YEARS ago and it still impresses me.
The one at 7:20 is relatable. I found some of the old fics I'd written and cringed so hard I tore the pages out of my notebooks. One of the fics took up the entire notebook, and I literally removed the spiral ring from the binding just to get all the pages. Two days later, I went outside to the firepit and burned all of the pages to ashes. I would rather watch their worlds burn than have another person fall into awareness of their existence.
My old fics are uploaded in Ao3 but I couldn’t bear to read them to judge if they’re worthy of deleting. I can’t just delete them either just in case there’s that one soul out there who likes my shitty fics and would be devastated if I ever did delete them cause I myself reread shitty fics that I found years ago to this day. So I just leave them there

I remember a reviewer my one fandom had a while back that was commenting on random fanfics with reviews saying that it was "pig sh1t" and that their stories were better and to read theirs. They seemingly made an account that copied someone's actual account name (with slight differences). I got two messages warning me about the reviewer about an hour before I got a review from them. We all kind of banded together and this reviewer (who we dubbed "pig sh1t") eventually disappeared. They ended up popping up in another fandom of mine and my first thought was "aw I missed you".
Murther is for the people who just wanted a wholesome fluffy ship with cool magic stuff maybe a touch of angst but not anything to bad. And as a member of the PJO fandom I can confirm we are basically just a queer summer camp, even our straight characters are bisexual icons and I have even seen IRL shipping wars over Percico vs Percabeth...

as someone who reads a lot of kpop fanfics: yeah, there is A LOT of omegaverse. and it's all highly kudosed as well. very often i'll skim the tags and be like "yeah, that sounds nice!" and then i'll read the description and ... "that was the day he found out he was an omega". i've really stopped reading them but i used to and i've seen... stuff.

I remember reading fanfics when I was younger about a certain anime ship (still ship it) and all the fan fictions would always go down like this: •Mc (female character) is kicked out of the group because she’s “weak” (even though that’s super ooc like holy shit😭😭) •Characters are super ooc (guy mc is shipped with insults her? Everyone is against her? The other girl who is considered a “rival” to the ship is evil?) •Character gets pissed and becomes a god/queen/princess of certain species in the anime (if you know you know). •”Epic” time skip revenge story where Brocken😭💔💔⛓️🖤🖤🖤🖤 mc character shows off magic powers. •Turns out the other female character was hypnotizing the group the whole time and she gets killed off in the end. •The mc and the one guy character who hated her because he was hypnotized or some shit get together. •In the authors notes there’s shit like “sorry for all the rival female character lovers, she’s evil in this story” like BITCH- •Probably closer to a self insert fanfic than a actual fanfic about the character- If you know what I’m talking about props because that was a very dark age lmao
I remember when I used to read only on wattpad, and I used to see things about how good ao3 was and how terrible wattpad was. So I tried to use ao3... and I was so confused with the way the whole thing worked, I immediately set back to my wattpad journey. I can't say that my expierences on wattpad were terrible, I read some good fanfiction, I read some incredibly cringey fanfic that I would not read again, and I read some actual original books (I know right). But... I somewhat recently decided to give ao3 another try, and I understood how to tag a lot better and navigate the website. Now I only really read on ao3, and I have found so many good works. (the amount of works that make you scroll to the top and start again that I have red...its honestly scares me)

I never understand when people say ao3 is hard to navigate. The competition is WATTPAD. I may have started on Wattpad, but finding ish on here was harder than an alpha male’s di- Instead of a checklist of tags, and database of used tags, you have to manually search or them and make sure they’re used? Not to mention the amount of Y/n and first person that you can’t even filter out. Maybe that’s just me, because the ao3 filter system is my bread and butter.

And you know there's some wild fan or desperate journalist who has made the celebrities that have them aware because there's always that person who can't keep it fantasy and _must_ be out here going too far with it. I highly suggest that when you are done, to go read the Sirius POV. It's written by an author called Rollercoasterwords and is really high quality. I think they rewrite it very nicely but also followed the plot MsKingBean89 made. It's one of my favorites!

I can’t stand the (Y/N) fanfics that make the insert perfect and everyone loves them. The best ones are the ones where the author actually tries to make the insert build relationships.
I agree! This genre of fanfic is SO much more than its generic stereotype! If there's any reader-insert fic writers out there reading this, I'd just like you to know that you ARE valid and important and you've got an audience--and a pretty big one at that! :)

as someone who reads a lot of kpop fanfics: yeah, there is A LOT of omegaverse. and it's all highly kudosed as well. very often i'll skim the tags and be like "yeah, that sounds nice!" and then i'll read the description and ... "that was the day he found out he was an omega". i've really stopped reading them but i used to and i've seen... stuff.
My friend reads k-pop fanfics a LOT, like we'll be in class and I'll look over, and what you know, it's the red and white ao3 site... but anyway, I have seen some interesting ones, since said friends occasionally recommends some to me even though I have zero idea who these people are.

I remember reading fanfics when I was younger about a certain anime ship (still ship it) and all the fan fictions would always go down like this:
•Mc (female character) is kicked out of the group because she’s “weak” (even though that’s super ooc like holy shit😭😭)
•Characters are super ooc (guy mc is shipped with insults her? Everyone is against her? The other girl who is considered a “rival” to the ship is evil?)
•Character gets pissed and becomes a god/queen/princess of certain species in the anime (if you know you know).
•”Epic” time skip revenge story where Brocken😭💔💔⛓️🖤🖤🖤🖤 mc character shows off magic powers.
•Turns out the other female character was hypnotizing the group the whole time and she gets killed off in the end.
•The mc and the one guy character who hated her because he was hypnotized or some shit get together.
•In the authors notes there’s shit like “sorry for all the rival female character lovers, she’s evil in this story” like BITCH-
•Probably closer to a self insert fanfic than a actual fanfic about the character-

I remember when I used to read only on wattpad, and I used to see things about how good ao3 was and how terrible wattpad was. So I tried to use ao3... and I was so confused with the way the whole thing worked, I immediately set back to my wattpad journey. I can't say that my expierences on wattpad were terrible, I read some good fanfiction, I read some incredibly cringey fanfic that I would not read again, and I read some actual original books (I know right). But... I somewhat recently decided to give ao3 another try, and I understood how to tag a lot better and navigate the website. Now I only really read on ao3, and I have found so many good works. (the amount of works that make you scroll to the top and start again that I have red...its honestly scares me)

And you know there's some wild fan or desperate journalist who has made the celebrities that have them aware because there's always that person who can't keep it fantasy and _must_ be out here going too far with it. Even if I was super into a real person or band, that concept would keep me up at night even if I hadn't actually written any ideas down. I would be so mortified about that. Can't weird out a fictional character, they can't accidentally be exposed to my trash mind, they can't care.

I thought you were referring to it happening if you were a celebrity or something, while they are still human (of course) and deal with that kind of stuff, my guess it wouldn't be as surprising/scary/ect. But if it was hardcore smut and ect, X reader and completely serious I would be terrified. And If I was an average civilian and it was written by some stranger than I would absolutely want it to stop.
i 100% agree, that’s why I try to avoid rpf as much as possible. I think it’s so weird how so many people are ok with making stuff like this, not thinking of the consequences of how it would affect a real person. I am an avid fan fiction lover but when it involves real people who cannot consent to things like these, it’s just icky.

I highly suggest that when you are done, to go read the Sirius POV. It's written by an author called Rollercoasterwords and is really high quality. I think they rewrite it very nicely but also followed the plot MsKingBean89 made. It's one of my favorites!
