Loving these sunny summertime shots on a very cold winter day. The homestead is coming along so wonderfully- I can’t wait to go on a similar journey some day.
I started watching your homestead journey from a townhouse with no yard…and 6 kids, my husband, and a dog, not knowing my life would totally be changing soon. We just finished moving from Utah to Texas and moved onto…4 acres 😱. We are doing so many projects on the house, and there will be a lot more to do on the land to prepare for possibly getting animals. Love that we’re both doing this now and it just feels that much cooler watching your videos.
I believe the pronunciation of “hearth” is similar to “heart”, like an “a” sound (harth). Unless there is some New Zealand variation that I’m unaware of :) You house is starting to feel like such a warm and calming space 💛☺️🏠. I love the beautiful pieces you displayed on the shelf. I can tell you guys have a lot of special and unique pieces that you cherish and love in your home ❤️❤️
Hey Carrie! I have a rescue dog too and he was very dog reactive when we first got him due to poor socialization. Once we saw a trainer things got so much better! A lot of it was us learning how to advocate for him in social situations and properly introduce him to new dogs. He is still dog selective at times but now we know how to handle it. So glad to see you being responsible and helping Lanka through this! I know it can be really frustrating having a dog that sometimes lashes out in public but is a complete sweetheart at home 💛 sending you all love
Couldn’t help to think how content and serene you are Carrie… the last year has really brought about some beautiful changes. It was a heck of a lot of work and stress and looks like it was worth it in the end!
Great to see your spice jars from The Warehouse. I usually make a label with the best before date to put on the bottom of spice jars. Handy for spices that you buy for a special recipe & then may not use again for a long time. During the last lockdown I went through my spices & got rid of the more antique ones.
I second this advice! We recently went through our spices and had to throw half of them out as they'd expired - a lot of them spices I bought for specific recipes but didn't use again :(
Watching your progress I have to take a deep breath. You’re getting so much done it’s amazing. I have quite a long list of projects I want to do but I also have to realize my time is minimal right now and so are my funds. So I’ll just keep squirreling away and one day I’ll get to do a big remodel like this - hopefully ☺️ I love following along though because I feel like it’ll give me an idea of timeframe and what to expect. So thank you for sharing
See this is awesome, showing every project you guys are doing at the same time and explaining how its going to go one by one throughout the year. I love that and get inspiration from seeing you guys tackle one project at a time and get stuff done, showing growth and progress 😀😀😀😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃😃
Someone may have already mentioned this but Hearth is pronounced ‘harth’ - at least in NZ and Australia - not herth - yours is going to look amazing with those beautiful tiles 😍
It’s so nice to see how your home is coming together. It’s always best to take time to do the things you want in you home and it’s so rewarding when you see the results. Lovely. Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪
You have a beautiful place.Love the tiles then the hearth will look finished You did a great job with herbs Alex the curtains you did a great job handling.them .
You are going to LOVE using those spice jars. I did the same with those Warehouse jars for our spice drawer. Made cooking so much nicer. And good call on the spices from Moore Wilson - much less packaging and much fresher/better quality that heavily processed and packaged stuff from the other grocery stores.
Hi Carrie … thanks for the awesome vlogs and inspiration. Off to The Warehouse to sort my spice drawer😂 I’m looking forward to seeing the house and garden progression and also just wanted to wish you and Alex all the very best for 2022🥂💛
Oh my gosh! I love the Beautiful tiles you picked out for your fireplace and the pretty curtains! It’s always so fun seeing how your house is becoming a beautiful home! ❤️
I totally understand being worried about your dogs’ interactions with other dogs! We’ve found that our dog can be a little mean/not friendly to other dogs when we are present. But when he’s at dog daycare and we aren’t there, he is absolutely fine. The owner of the dog daycare said this is likely because he is being protective or possessive of us when another dog approaches. So interesting!!
Hey... Great video. Took me a long time to get to the end cos I'm in middle of moving house, but I wanted to see it all so bit by bit, I finally got to the end. Love Lanka, he such a cutie. Yes dogs sense our energy and react accordingly. So if we're nervous or anxious, their protective instinct steps in... Dogs are great aren't they, and great protectors. I had a doberman and she was such a beautiful dog. Must be trained from 6 weeks tho, or you'll have trouble. They are very intelligent and love discipline. House is coming along super fantastic. Great job 👌. By the way, we sound hearth as in heart. Not sure where and why we call it that but I like to think it's because in the old days the fire would've been like the heart of the house. You have great taste and skill and you and Alex compliment each other. Just loving watching your journey. 💃🎶💖
Thanks the pleasant video. So Carrie, have you gone back to Los Angeles for a visit yet since you left? I'll make a little confession, I'm from LA too and was originally following you and your husband on his channel when the two of you were living in LA. By the way, is your dog Lanka still with you?
How 'bout this idea: You invest some time and watch all previous videos, including the new one, just like Carrie invested her time to create all these videos for us? :) NHF.
@@Eruieth I'm an old subscriber that was following her and her husband Alex the Vagabond years ago when she was living in LA before she got married. I had mentioned about 3 videos prior that I stopped following for awhile and just started following her again.
@@LuminousBlanc I did watched the video, just up to the 13-14 minute mark before having to log off and head to the gym (LA Fitness) before it closes at 5PM on the weekend.
At 4am this morning my puppy needed to go wee-wee and Omgosh the moon was absolutely beautiful so I got my cam out and took photos, but I so know what ya mean, I have thermal blackout drapes from ceiling to floor scored mine from Bunnings 👍🏽 and they're perfect. Lanka will get there but not sure about that plant, is that a terracotta pot? If so it can dry your potting mix, repot into a deeper pot the root base needs room to grow and breath, I love your choice of tiles can't wait to see what it looks like when your done, you have that Midas touch Carrie 🧡 have a great day 🌞
Consider putting in an outlet for oil heater, when electrician visits. They are ugly, but awesome in winter, especially for taking the edge off the chill. Lols, I grew up down those ways so i know how cold it can get there.
Great video like always! Thanks for all the inspo! There's no other more relaxing UA-cam creator than you and relax and calm is exactly what I'm getting from you ❤ well I get that from your husband so it's a win win 😊🙏🏻
I thought of you and your loved ones when I heard of the tsunamis. I know you don’t live on the coast but I wanted share that the nations and people of New Zealand and Tonga are in my prayers!
Spice organization: where and how do you store the extra bulk of what doesn’t fit into the jars? I know it’s probably simple and something like in their original packaging in a box in our cupboard. But thought I might be able to get a new idea just in case.
Carrie, I would love to know how your electrician is doing a full re-wire. Like you guys, my partner and I have just decorated our home but now we’ve realised we might need re-wiring done and the electricians are telling us they will have to channel into all of our lovely walls and totally destroy our kitchen. It sounds really invasive. I’d love to know if there is a better way!!x
naught willson , he so cute . hi carrie those little things makes a diffences doing your spices jars , changing your selves to nice bowls and it suits the photos above it very nice and simple . its feeling like you two ( your personal ideas) fruit trees are growing surrounding are so beautiful look forward to more videos thanks carrie haere ra ( bye
Love how far you have come and how your house is coming together xxx Have you thought about bringing the tile around the border of the hearth and down to the floor ? Just a thought !
Love seeing all the projects you and Alex are doing and how amazing it has been to follow along on your journey with the house from where it was at the start to where it is now and to see where it will keep going! 😊 I would possibly rethink putting the spices above the oven and the heat and any steam from the stove might negatively affect them, they last a lot longer in a cool dark place. Which sadly often means not having them on display 😂
The glass in the door of the fireplace: My mother dips wet newspaper into the ashes and rubs down the glass with it, the glass is always beautifully clean because of it.
Hi Carrie, lovely to see your updates! Your home is looking so pretty! With so much beautiful sunlight coming through, the sofa and dining table will get faded. Do you cover them during the day?
I have the same issue with my dog, and we found we didn't get much out of our training. I'd love it if you'd share what helped if you're able to improve the issue.
Hi Carrie! Lovely video, as always. Your home looks breathtaking. I absolutely love the amount of sunlight beaming through. How many bedrooms do you have in your home?
I really enjoyed this video, everything is looking like a place to thrive. If you are getting the floating lights get additional switches for the main light also next to the bed. I had this when I lived in Germany and its really is like a hotel and so convenient. Also greys are starting to get dated, I would be wary of adding greys in more permanent larger jobs that are expensive to change. I little bit here and there is classic, but if you have grey all over the place it will time stamp the house.
As always, the hardest part is left to me. Carrie, everyone is interested in what you will do with the lamb, will you slaughter it yourself or, because you raised it, will you sell it to another butcher? ;)

hahah yeah I was going to mention that! it's HARTH in the US too, like "heart" but with a "th" at the end.
I love the clean look of the shelves. You should add some plants/ fake plants to brighten it up! 💛🪴

The glass jars are available at The Source bulk foods shops. I believe they have stores in NZ.

I don’t know if the pronunciation is different in New Zealand but in the US “hearth” is pronounced “harth” (like the name Garth) 👍🏻

Woolson is too much and I can’t take it!! Love you all three of you!
In winter, I would make sure that I start drawing the curtains before the sun sets to trap in the heat from the daylight
Love your style. You're very good at home decor, sometimes I take notes! 😀
