One of the hard parts about learning technique in tennis is you hear so many different tips that often conflict with each other. Shamir mentioned that he was doing a stomp to end his volleys before you told him "Contact-1-2", and I was told about the stomp as well. I'm learning a lot from this channel. lol
I imagined a wall in front of the racquet today when volleying and tightened the grip handle as I struck the ball. WOW!!!! What a huge difference it made. The tightening of the grip as I hit the ball actually helped freeze the racquet and with the control. ..... I applied the same tightening of the grip when doing high volleys and overheads and my percentage went up 80 percent. Then I used the tightening of the grip idea with my backhand slices and approach shots and improved my consistency by 90 percent. Thanks Niko!!
I am an old coach and teaching professional so I really appreciate this video. Excellent teaching and the student has very good footwork. Near the end of the lesson the importance of continuing to move forward instruction is so important. The top volley players always move forward. When I coached High School Tennis my players that played Hockey and Basketball did this naturally. In both of those sports players are conditioned to move to the net or goal and keep going. I liked to use a three ball drill with players taking first ball at service line and moving forward for second and third ball then touch the net after third ball. When I was developing as a tournament player John McEnroe was The touring pro that I would watch for volley tactics. I do love Nadal’s fast feet and court coverage. I would tell my players that you cannot hit a shot if you don’t get to it.
Thanks, I am also a 4.5 player that have the same issues with the volleys and I immediately noticed the difference after doing what you recommended. Need to keep working on those thanks again
Awesome video. Lots of great tips that are easy to practice and take away. Always good to see a student laughing and smiling because of how suddenly and significantly his strokes have improved.
Made my first comment 3 min in. I am at 2/3 of the video and I have to say this video is filled with gems. I haven’t got chance to practice them but now I find out the reasons that caused many of my miserable volleys. Thanks!
Very interesting tips that I had not heard of previously. I can't wait to try them since I need a net game if I have any chance of competing next week. I am 47, and competing against the under 35s.
@@YesSirPhil Hi, thank you for asking. I have won my last 3 local +35s tournaments here in Kosovo, and I am considering playing some A-category just for the fun of it. Fun fact, a big-hitting player to who I had lost to 60, 61 about 2 years ago trying to stay back and rally, I recently defeated 61, 60 by serve/volleying and attacking the net when possible on his serve. After the match, he said that I Pat Raftered him. Cheers!
Dudee! this kind of videos helps too much! The improve on a real player it is really helpful to identify the most common errors and fix'em. Ty for this videos.
Great explanation on volley technique. Since it wasn't discussed, I assume footwork (other than moving in and through a volley) is not so important. Now I understand why my warm up volleys seem so good and fall apart in game action. Videos are so good, not sure I'll need any more personal lessons. Thanks.
on the backhand it seems to me that he put more cut to the ball and slice , than a lag and stop to add more power , nice lesson as usual , very instructive lesson these one on one topics
Dang, this video is really good. You really point out ALL problems that i have on my volley. So there's a difference between volleying a fast and a slow ball 🤔
Sincere question regarding rating of player. Isn't a 4.5 player, especially in FL where you are, supposed to have better volley technique? I realize that the whole rating process is a tool to help define something we might not be able to capture.
First, all your videos are helpful, you might make an additional playlist of these episodes with the 4.5 player to save me sorting, because they are really good.
Great tips. Could you show volleys on faster paced shots? I play some people that really hit powerful ground strokes, even when not optimally positioned.
Nick can you please explain the difference between this forehand volley technique with wrist extension and the racket finishes with the buttcap pointing to the left for a righty and the other such as racketflex's video where they don't talk much about wrist extension and they talk about shoulder adduction where the buttcap finishes pointing down at the midline of the body. I'm confused on what is right and especially have trouble when putting away volleys as I see some swing through it with a weird finish and then others try to contact one-two it.
You have to freeze the racquet at contact. At times the momentum will carry the racquet across the body, but the freeze is still there. The cleaner you execute the freeze the better. It’s a deflection. No shoulders, keep your body as still as possible.
Hi Nick, an other great video again!! I’ll try exercise for myself. Have you deliberately skipped the pre-volley split to get Shamir to focus on the drill?
I simplified my volley to be a love tap instead of trying to smash it in for winners. Hitting it shallow and forcing my opponent to rush the net or tap it just hard enough to keep it in the lines, but in difficult angles my opponent can't reach.

Nikola, what do you think about choking up grip on volleys?
@@ProfessorBoooty It's good for players with stability issues
3 minutes in and the lesson was worth more than hours of paid presential classes I had through my life. Thanks again, Nik.
My pleasure Jon
I was about to say the same.
1. sqeeze and freeze 10/10 2. lag for slow balls 10/10 3. contact, one two. 10/10. Simple yet precise. Thank you.

These advice are so comprehensive and point out the mistakes of many amateur players and improve them instantly.
Thanks a lot

These videos with him are gems. Thanks Nikola
🙏
incredible improvement with just one session.
this guy's got his money's worth
Can’t count how many volley videos I’ve watched on UA-cam. But this summed it all - This is gold. Please keep these coming, you are a fantastic coach!
This is really working, from A to Z perfect.

Love it when coach Nick says “Don’t do that”- no sugar coat, no nonesense, pure intuitive!
Cheers to Shamir for the youtube fame! Awesome tennis!
Great audio work! I can tell it's windy out there, but both your voices are crystal clear
Thank you, I try my best with the audio, it’s difficult outside with noise from various sources
@@IntuitiveTennis Yes, I noticed this, too. Lends an even greater professional feel to an already great series.

10:16 that's the happiest backhand volley i've ever seen
I didn't know a 10 min video could contain so much knowledge. Thank you for these videos Intuitive Tennis!

Contact, one, two... I will use tomorow. Great Tip!!!
Wow I think these techniques will definitely improve my net skills 🤩 Thank you so much 😋

Great coaching! I've been watching more of your videos, and I like how you correct the player's errors. I'm learning a lot!
What a good video. I used to be skeptical of learning through youtube but this video is so good.
Love this guys lessons, he is the man, LTA in UK should be coaching like this.
Thanks, Nick! Can’t wait to try these tips.
This is a brilliant video Nick. Especially dealing with the slice. Will try to implement it soon
Thank you Kabir
Best volley leson I've seen in long time. Looking foward to go to the court and try out. Thank you very much

Another great video. I finally realized why I have floaty volleys(esp on backhand). Thank you.
Great coaching, and I want to give some recognition to your student as well--great job all around... wonderful video!
Once again another great video. I will be using your stroke anaylis service soon and will be looking at your online courses. Thanks.

Great stuff man thanks
Nice. Shamir ended up with bonafide nice volleys.
WOW! There is so much here to digest. I lose many points with these type of balls. Thank you.
Freeze and Squeeze, loved it...
Love the lesson
Great video, Nick. Racket lag, Contact 1, 2 !!!! Thanks.
I kid you not , I tried this and instantly became 100 percent better!
Squeeze and freeze with racket face open. Good tip. Lag the head on slower balls, then S&F. Continue through short balls to finish.

Mind is blown 🤯
When Federer has time on his backhand volley his take back is the exact same as his slice backhand!
Ah, finally someone who knows how to teach a volley. Freeze and squeeze. Cuz if you flail you fail.
Practice even when the court was still wet, great.

When there is no pace, do you still try and stop as soon as you make contact?
There needs to be a lag in that circumstance 👉 ua-cam.com/video/3Or7isgKeIc/v-deo.html
