To answer your question jack, we first to have get back to our chemistry.
You see, regular rocket fuel such as hydrogen/oxygen or kerosene/oxygen fuel mixtures or SRB (solid rocket booster) fuel, have two main ingredients: a fuel (the thing that is meant to burn) and the oxidizer (which enables the fuel to burn. in space... where there is no oxygen.). Typically, in liquid fuel engines, which is the one that you chose to use prior to your question, the oxidizer is typically liquid oxygen. If we are making SRB fuel, we have to have a solid oxidizer. there are a lot of choises when choosing a solid oxidizer. There is potassium nitrate (KNO3)(the most convetionally used one), ammonium perchlorate (V E R Y oxygen owie), etc. The main property all of these chemicals have in common is that they are all reactive. But, the fuel YOU used is called Argon. If you listend in chemistry class you would know that argon is a noble gas. You would also know that noble gases are pretty much to completely non-reactive, hence the question: "Why didn't it go off?".

Just an fyi argon gas is used in ion engines. These are very low thrust but super high efficiency engines. They are used for long distance travel where over the course of months, or even years, they accelerate to velocities conventional engines can not reach.

Or, it can get you going fast if you have the time to wait for it to go fast. Because it's slow at going fast, but once it is fast, it's very fast.
@@catrice8808 It only gives as much thrust as the pressure it can produce. As it's an inert gas, it can only produce as much pressure as you apply to it when filling the tanks. the only place it would produce a usable amount of thrust is in microgravity, and you would deplete the tanks very rapidly using pure pressure to create thrust. It would more likely be used in ion thrusters, though argon is not even a very good element to use for that, as it's a light noble gas. They typically use things like Xenon, because it's the heaviest non-reactive gas.

so thing like argon and xenon are noble gasses and are uses for ion thrusters which are only used for upper stages due to the very small thrust, they only produce they same force as a sheet of paper resting on your palm, but they can fire the engine for day weeks or even months at a time with the available fuel sources. This is because unlike normal rockets which use chemical reactions, IE burning things, an ion drive will eject positively charged ions which have lost an electron, into a chamber with the gas and also guided by magnets, the particles bond and are ejected from the nozzle at much high velocities than you tradition chemical rockets. If this sounds sci fi-ish, thats cuz it kinda is, using electromagnetic fields, to throw atoms which can in turn accelerate spacecraft for months at a time
