New into the field and had to study this for my midterm exam. Kept confusing front with back, appreciate you showing the actual service valve itself and explaining how it works.
I have been away for awhile but back watching videos. Glad that you have your channel still. As always a great learning experience for everyone and explanation of items. HVAC ON!!!
Okay.. yeah so I was looking at my Carrier unit for the first time and was so confused why there were no shraders and I wasn't getting any pressure on my gauges.. thanks.
Hello Craig. I have a r404a small type appliance a slushy machine to be specific. I need to recharge it. How do. I charge it. How much psig and oz should I fill it up to. There is no reading on the compressor or on the side of the machine. Thanks in advance. Should I charge it thru liquid line ?
You would need to look up the model number or find the rating plate. There should still be a plate somewhere on it that shows the total weight. You would break the vacuum with the total amount of liquid refrigerant needed for that packaged unit, thanks!
I think the service valves on my 40-year-old Friedrich compressor are three-position but I'm not certain. Both valves have a square stem on top covered by a black plastic cap. The access ports are just above the vapor and/or liquid lines and have no Schrader core. They have a small threaded metal cap. Any comments?
When you take the port cap off of the service valve, there will not be a schrader valve core. There will also be a large ca at the top and under it will be a large exposed stem, thanks!

This video was very informative. So i have a question, Is there a position that the HVAC service valve can be where the heater would work but not the AC? I am having this problem right now. During the winter, the heater was working fine but now that its starting to get hot, the AC is blowing hot hair, but the heater is still working. The cooling setting blows hot air even when its not very hot outside. BTW i had my old co-worker work on my AC last winter, (who is HVAC certified) and refilled my freon. He also had told me that the king valve leaks if its in a certain position. So the position that he set it at doesnt leak, but now is when im noticing that the AC doesnt blow cold air. Your help is very much appreciated. thanks!
Do you have a heat pump with strip heat? If so it sounds like your refrigerant has leaked out so the refrigeration circuit is trashed but your heat pump still bumps on the heat strips (emergency heat) and warms your house up.
Can't you just use the front seat to add refrigerant? Since the valve will be open only to the suction side of the compressor which will suck the refrigerant out of the refrigerant cylinder, negating the use of a recovery unit or hot water bath to help push the refrigerant out of the cylinder

Thank you so much I've been on the roof all day trying to figure this out!!!

You are very welcome HVAC ON!!!
Okay.. yeah so I was looking at my Carrier unit for the first time and was so confused why there were no shraders and I wasn't getting any pressure on my gauges.. thanks.
great explanation, just ran across one of the valves
the first valve is just a 3 position suction valve, the second valve is a king valve, mounted on the receiver (liquid line)
Yes thank you!
Válvula de 3 vías, buena explicación
Thank you!
Thanks Craig
Thanks Stuart!
Good vid Craig ...
Thanks Eddy!
Can the king valve caps for this unit still ne purchased
Very good information my friend God bless keep it up
Just wondering if it wouldn't have been a good idea to insert a diagram of these valves on the upper left corner along with your explanation.
Hey Prabal, I have the photos of those in the book and I believe as one of the book sample pages at acservicetech.com thanks!
Thank you so much!
Still like metal gasketed caps, what PSI are the good ones rated at?
That I am not sure of but I am sure it is very high. That will depend on each manufacturer and they may not give those specifics, thanks!
Thank you!
Glad to help! Thanks!
How can I know if I have 2 position or 4 position king valve ? How to recognize them ?
I just purchased your paperback book, I was just wondering if you have a lot of troubleshooting topics in your book
Yes there is quite a bit in there. Please let me know what you think of it after reading, thanks!

@@strimbimmin328 Thanks for the response, apparently there was not a leak like the previous HVAC technician told me. The problem was a wiring issue.
Can't you just use the front seat to add refrigerant? Since the valve will be open only to the suction side of the compressor which will suck the refrigerant out of the refrigerant cylinder, negating the use of a recovery unit or hot water bath to help push the refrigerant out of the cylinder
