You are much stronger than you think Kim. Life sometimes chucks us a curve ball to deal with and you survived this one. Keep smiling , keep happy and keep enjoying mother nature at her best x
To hear the melancholy in your voice reflects the experience of many great artists in history. Your shot of the single individual on the beach in this particular light is a very good example of 'Fine Art' IMHO. I think it may be your best image ever! Well done! Now go out there and celebrate your talents, and know you are admired for them!
Kim, you are a beautiful person, your attitude and energy, has helped me in many ways. I am a lot like you, mother nature is and always will be my happy place. I like many look forward to your video's. I know you have a life and business, and are always busy each of us are given a gift, you and your photography is a gift, that you share with us. If you need a break from youtube take it. Stay well...
When I was young, I almost always felt I couldn't find my place in society. But many decades later, I have come to realize that I belong here on earth and whether anyone else acknowledges me is no longer a concern. Like you, I find my focus when I am out photographing what I care about. It always brings me joy even when I don't find anything that produces a great image. I have come to understand it is just the process of making images that matter. I always look forward to watching your latest adventure and I think many others benefit too. Just relax and let the world pass before you.
Thanks for sharing your experience with great comments Kim....you always have a beautiful way of presenting & expressing yourself...don't feel down ... always remember that you are giving so much pleasure to so many people with your videos..this is a talent that we don't all possess... please keep up the good work... remain positive... cheers from Australia 😀❤️
Thank you Kim, I was feeling like this at Christmas and decided to go for a drive and find snow to photograph. After a few minutes photographing the snow falling around me, I forgot why it’s so depressed in the previous weeks. A few weeks later as I was editing another video, I realized that I like me and I want to be my friend. It was an amazing turning point in my life. Glad you’re feeling better.
I know how you feel Kim. I'm kinda feeling that way at the moment. Think I will give it a try tomorrow down by the lake. Not the same as the sea and the beach won't be as nice but it is local and there will lots to take in. You looked quite relaxed at the end of the video sitting in the dunes. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful to see your post. I also struggle through some difficult days and agree that being immersed in nature is the best cure. Soaking in that changing light helps me accept my own changes internally, really affirming that I'm actually part of nature in an immense place and not just a person sat in a room.
Thank you for sharing your own experience with the healing power of nature. It's beautiful to read that you have a similar experience and relationship with it :)
So true Kim, I was completely immersed and drowned in 'botherations' this morning. Didn't know what to do or where to go. Ended up at Newport Wetlands photographing dragonflies which I'd not really done before. It detached me from 'everything'. Then went photographing Peregrines in Chepstow. Advice to anyone struggling 'sling the camera on and get out into nature' It works! Best therapy ever.
Good on you Kim. The world can be crushing sometimes if we let it and you are not letting it. I do exactly that but I dont actually stop my chores to do it. I have a very consuming hobby farm as well as work so my time is very precious. Ive found the only way to get my fix is to take my camera literally every where with me. As I'm feeding horses I'm looking all the the time at the clouds, sunsets/rises, animals and I just take what I see. I have lots of cool cloud images, sun beams, crazy cats, sheep, chickens, horses all taken while I'm feeding etc. I find the release of tension so obvious, I feel happy not bogged down in issues. I take the camera to work and take dog photos out the front of the cafe where I work, or motorbikes or people. Maybe its my crutch...... if it is at least its healthy. Keep it up Kim, love watching your life.
It is so beautiful that you are able to take your camera along with you and experience these things. It certainly sounds like it really helps you. Your captured images sound sublime! Thank you for sharing Lisa :)
STunning photos. Glad you are finding your way back. Thank you there is a hike I have always wanted to go on and now I have some more skills to really appreciate that hike.
So happy to hear that you know what cures your melancholy- still not easy to grab oneself by the hair and go out… but what a reward -those images of people on the beach with that light and the clouds with bird(s)! They must be such an incentive to do it very soon again. Other then that just be! You are fabulous as you are!
Bruce from McMinnville, TN, USA here. I want to thank you for sharing this video and a personal part of yourself. I deal with similar things in my adulthood at 61. Your videos have inspired me to live and to reclaim my photographic art. Thank you.
Thank you for this beautiful and inspiring video. I am an 83 year old who took up photography following the death of my wife 5 years ago. You have given me another way to look at this amazing hobby.
"It was time to reconnect with me!" Kim, that really struck a chord! I must admit that you're entire introduction to this video almost had me in tears! I can relate to how you've been feeling, probably more than you'll ever know! XX
Your human figure photos in the vastness of sky, water and sand are magical Kim. I got so much pleasure from pausing your video to linger on the images you captured. Thankyou.
Listening to you it is a pleasure to my ears. As I told you before, me a 77 years old photographer, your enthusiam, remenber me those early days when I does and feel the same sensation you are feeling now. The landscape your are continuos catching are very similar to the south and patagonia of Chile we're I live in a nice cottage surround by the native forrest. May be you have ear about the Torres del Paine, National park. I want to invite You for a photographic trip to this place when ever you can, and I will be your guide for this wonderfull land....
Interesting to see how your channel has changed over time from straight landscape photography to embrace emotion and philosophy. It's not easy to maintain a weekly blog. All power to you!
Wow it's almost like you're talking about me. I suffer PTSD and have cancer and photography has been my safe space and refuge. Keep up the great posts you're very encouraging.
Hi Kim, your words had a lot of meaning and I was able to relate to what you said. My photography has become so important to me and sometimes when it doesn't go well, I feel it. But when it goes well it is a wonderful feeling. I can't frame it in words, but you know what I mean. And it is those moments that we always must tie to our hearts. Thank you for sharing your special moments Kim.
Hi Kim - you are refreshing! Refreshing, clear & simple thoughts, refreshing and candid aspects of your photography. I am 79, and, yes, photography keeps me young. God bless. Warm regards from Mauritius.
I’m glad you came away feeling better! Some beautiful shots. I really like the beach photos. I’m also pleased that I’m not the only one that likes clouds and searches for compositions within them. Clouds are beautiful and so rich in possibilities. I’ll be looking for them more now that I know that someone else sees them as I do. Keep up the great work!!
What a fantastic video that I, and so many others, can resonate with. It’s great to see you talk about how you’ve been feeling and then changing your perspective, immersing yourself in the outdoors and what you enjoy. This is the very reason I started my photography journey 12 years ago as I wasn’t in a good place, I was low, felt unfulfilled, with no real ambition or direction in life. Nature and the great outdoors works absolute wonders and coupled with a creative medium like photography, it’s an incredible medicine. Wishing you all the best, Kim. Take care.
Welcome back Kim. To understand one’s demons is such an achievement the doing something about then is simply stunning. You are a true artist Kim, and yes, photography is all about light. I have taken lots of shots at a beach like this, using my new 70-300 zoom lens; it’s liberating. Take care.
It's always so heartwarming to listen and watch you. You are just bubbling over with joy. Even if it is sometimes a bit hard for me as a German to follow. You learn English for years in school and then forget so much again. I understand quite well now, but I would like to be able to speak better. By the way, the Z 100-400 is a great lens.
Kim, I'm sure it took a lot of courage to put out this video yet in having that courage and honesty you have inspired so many, myself included. I often find that when I am disconnected from myself and nature I can't seem to settle in myself so this exercise is just what I need to see. Even before I try it I can see its value. I am heading to the coast for a few days and hope to do this exercise while I'm there. Thank you for the inspiration, for sharing your struggle and for your really beautiful images. I wish you well on your journey.
This is a beautiful comment. Thank you so much for taking the time to write it. It certainly put a smile on my face :) I wish you a very happy and joyous trip to the coast. I hope you enjoy this exercise as much as I did.
Hi Kim I said in my comments when you we're explaining about your lighthouse project you really did sound very low and I thought with all that has happened in the last two years you we're reflecting on your own life I'm so glad to see your finding away through because we want the enthusiastic Kim we all love don't loose that gorgeous smile a very thoughtful video as always thank you Kim ♥️
Thank you Brain! It's a time of change and finding ourselves within the world. I'm enjoying the journey immensely as I uncover who I am. Your kind words mean a lot. Thank you :)
This is an extraordinary video Kim, and you strike at a lot of photographers, me included. It is easy to get lost in the din of the city, and the constant specter what is going on around you. I just go.....leave everything behind, and go where my mind and brain is clear. I have moved back to nature and landscape photography, and at 70, I am calm, relaxed, and enjoying my way around the real world. Great job to you, outstanding awareness of your self value, and great photographs. I love it.
Thank you Kim. This I liked. You show that photography is much more than just good pictures. To me, good pictures is a bonus. The experience is what is important. Best wishes and have fun.
The shot of the beach with a ' man ' standing, @ 7:21, is outsatnding in my opinion, and it is also indicative of your present state of mind. A shot that one might say has come from the ' soul ' . We often fail to connect with our inner feelings and this is where true art comes from. I rather disagree with statements that constantly encourage people to stand up to this and that. We should rather, acknowledge what we are feeling and come to terms with it rather than fight it, or in effect by putting up barriers run away from them. May I quote the great Ansel Adams who once said , " twelve photographs that matter is a good score for any photographer in any one year". That one shot should keep you going for a while, and is far suprior to dozens of cliche sunset or sunrise or long expsoure photographs all over the youtube and the internet. Well done young lady.
The seagull photos are amazing. I really like how you captured the blue and grey colours in and around the clouds. You got me motivated, Kim, to get back to photographing clouds again. It has been too much ground level for me lately. Thank you!
Thanks for your honesty in admitting how you feel Kim. Lots of us have been there. Like you say, getting out amongst nature with your camera helps so much.
Hi Kim, Glad to hear that you felt better at the end of the video with what you had done that evening. Some lovely image's captured in the same spot. Keep your chin up Kim and be the great photographer that you are and I'm sure that everyone else would agree with me.
Your so inspiring and come across well grounded, your talent is uplifting, seeing you grow over the months and years. And the honestly way in which you have matured, in showing us what can be achieved, with mindset in nature. You take care and thanks for sharing.
That's so very kind of you Roy. Thank you for your continued support. I saw you were at Margaret's membership meeting the other day. Thank you for tuning in 🙏
Fantastic, Kim! What a great and inspirational video! I love how getting out with a camera can take me to a different place, how looking through the lens gives me the feeling of looking out at the entire world. Please keep doing what you're doing. You make a difference!
Loved the intro Kim one of your very best,I have to say there would be no better place in the world to connect with the landscape than Scotland!, I had to watch in a couple of viewings, but a great video for sure, it is always great to find a new perspective, be that with a new lens, macro or tele, or through a different time of day or a different angle to a scene, thanks for sharing a beautiful video.
What a great video! The images were amazing, but what you said about feeling that you didn't belong really moved me. I felt like that all my life. Over time I've become so used to not really taking part in life that I don't care... To me life is more of spectacle I observe from a distance. Until I grab my camera and disappear into the woods and into myself! Thank you for sharing.
This is beautiful Mats. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with life. I am glad you were able to resonate with this video's message and have found a way to simply be you 😃
The whole process of photography, from getting outdoors, taking the photographs, editing and sharing my photographs, really helps me shrug off depression, when it creeps in on me :+) Thanks for the great videos and inspiration.
Thanks Kim for your ongoing inspiration to all of us - inspiration for great living as well as great photography - I am sure it all consumes enormous energy from you but hopefully the warmth from everyone’s comments gives you back some of that energy!
Thank you Andrew. I love making videos! When I do one like this that is bare and honest, it fuels my soul. Aiming to only produce videos like this moving forwards. The kind comments of course mean a lot and keep me going though. Thanks again :)
Kim. I think this was one if the most honest and inspiring videos. You see you demeanor and being change. I think you produced some of your best images. From someone who has been where you have many thanks. Take care and carry on doing what you are doing. The world is an awesome healing place..
Thank you for opening up like this on video Kim. I'm sure your message will resonate with many, myself included! Love your images of Scotland! I now live down in Cornwall and your videos always make me feel homesick, but in a good way! Right, off out with my camera...
Thanks for sharing such an inspiring video. I throughly enjoyed every aspect of it. I do have moments what you talked about. I definitely love the idea of shooting from one spot. Just do a 360. Thank you again.
Good work, Kim. I discovered beautiful clouds through my 150-500 only recently when there was not much action going on from the bird hide. One observation, when you carry your camera around with the big lens on, to protect the mounting mechanism that joins lens to camera from too much strain from the weight of the lens, you need to attach a neck strap to the lens carry handle and suspend around your neck off that, so the weight is off the camera mount. That's why big zoom lenses have the handle to fit tripod/mono pod to, and not to the normal camera mount. For the same reason, when hand holdoing, hold by the lens handle, it has finger grips... something you get used to.. Your big lens should have come with its own strap in the box. And it is easy to slip into the habit of hand carrying using the hand grip on the camera, particularly you are doing it subconciously, waving the camera around when you talk to the video camera. Towards the end of the video, you were holding by the lens handle, the safer option. By using the lens handle, the lens carries the light camera with no stresses, rather than the camera carrying the heavy lens under stress.. As you say you will be doing this more regularly, it is something to be aware of. Cheers from down under
Kim, good video. Sorry to see that you are having difficulties sometimes facing the problems Life throws at us…however I was happy that you found a way to get on top of your issues! I hope you keep on top of things! It is nice to know that our photography + nature gives we photographers a way of connecting to ourselves, and helping solve issues of the day! That new Nikkor 100-400mm sure helps things, though! Not only it’s telephoto can help you see distant scenes, but don’t forget it’s close-focusing ability allows you to isolate details at your feet!
Lovely video Kim. This also emphasizes something I have said for a long time, especially when shooting wildlife It is something you need to do on your own, unless you have a partner as equally interested in photography. There's nothing worse than having someone with you who is getting bored and restless.
Incredible how you manage to stay captain on your "ship". But it's true...one always has a choice...you chose one to get inspired. I like to be in nature as well. It has so much to offer to our "hungry souls". Thanks so much for sharing...very inspiring
I’ve been there, Kim. Quite a lot over the last few months, actually. And like you, my way out of it was to get back in nature and create art. I’m going to try this exercise again, I think. Find a spot, and just sit there for a few hours. Lovely work, Kim. 💕
After a period of exposure to comparing our experience to that of others, we can be left feeling disappointed and even disillusioned... "returning to self" is definitely a remedy for this, i.e. finding your joy and groove back by doing the things you love. Yet, I believe, connecting your soul to your spirit in these "down times" is essential. The Creator that supplied nature for our pleasure and healing is also there to connect with us personally. Kim, I suggest listening to the messages of someone like your fellow Scot, Alastair Begg (now living in Cleveland, Ohio) could be very helpful and inspiring. We steadily progress on this pastoral journey, together.
@7:10 your photos show a black or very dark cloud formation above the ocean. This is awesome color composition as it helps highlight the people figures on the beach which also have the same color contrast as the sky. This is much of what I call a "well dressed man" photo. By that I mean the ere is color or contrast coordination in the picture. Much like a well dressed man wearing a 3 piece tux. Your photos deserve a 2x 👍👍 keep up the great work!!
Not trying to sound like a know it all but you should hook your camera strap to the tripod foot instead of your lens when using a larger lens. It will reduce stress on camera connection point
lovely content and thoughts Kim. I live on the south nr IOW, Clouds/ light can be amazing to "its the looking out the window nr sunset guessing what kind of sunset is due " It defo a mood challenge
Wow, I am amazed. If I didn't know that you were in Scotland, you could of been on a beach in Australia. Nice lens, that can open up a wider style of photography such as wild life/ bird photography. I hope things improve for you.
Nice feeling video Kim. Can I ask pls what settings you used on the beach photos with the Nikkor 100-400 lens. I assume you had the ISO cranked up. Cheers. Ed
I have been struggling with my own photography motivation lately also. Some heavy medical issues, and losing my dog have been weighing heavy on me. I have wanted to get out, but haven't the right "Kick in the pants" to make it happen. If the rain stays away, I think I'll take a new look at the downtown area of the small rural town I live in, and see about some long exposure night shots. Thanks for the "kick" .
Kim, thanks for all you do and share...You are a treasure!
Thanks so kind - thank you :)

Beautiful images (as always) Kim! The light was really beautiful!! Don’t despair… just reconnect with your amazing talent as an artist!!

Stunning photo of the silhouettes on the beach Kim. Love how it appears the sun is shining out of the land and the darkness is above 😍
Thank you very much Rachael and thank you too for watching 😊

Centering & Grounding is so healthy!! Hello from Vancouver, British Columbia Canada
Hello William! It certainly is 😀
Kim, kudos on hand holding that "beast of a lens" and maintaining pin-sharp photographs! Great video as always.
Thank you very much Paul! Super impressed with the image stabilization on new lenses 🎉

Thank you Susan :) Glad you're loving the lens too!
Simply wonderful session out! I love the earthing/grounding approach! Thanks for bringing us along ang sharing your thoughts and prospective.
Thank you Jon. I'm wearing shoes less and less as time goes on. It really helps :)
Thank you Willie. Glad that you could relate and enjoyed the video 🙂
Thank you!
This is beautiful to read Carl! Thank you. Do enjoy reconnecting with the clouds ☁️
Thanks for your honesty in admitting how you feel Kim. Lots of us have been there. Like you say, getting out amongst nature with your camera helps so much.
I am glad you could resonate. Nature and creativity can be so healing.
Hi Kim,
Glad to hear that you felt better at the end of the video with what you had done that evening.
Some lovely image's captured in the same spot.
Keep your chin up Kim and be the great photographer that you are and I'm sure that everyone else would agree with me.
Very kind Tim. Thank you for your kind words :)
Thank you for tuning in 🙏
Inspirational , I sent that quote to a friend of mine who is having trouble re finding herself , thankyou and personally I enjoyed this video
Beautiful Dave! I hope she sees the beauty in it and finds her way soon. Sending her much love
Fantastic, Kim! What a great and inspirational video!
I love how getting out with a camera can take me to a different place, how looking through the lens gives me the feeling of looking out at the entire world.
Please keep doing what you're doing.
You make a difference!
The second photo is beautiful 👍🏻 that one was my fave but all lovely.
Thank you David! Always a joy to hear what people's favourite images are 🙂
@@kimgrantphotography Your welcome. Please take care.
Gorgeous images, too. That light! Incidentally, I shoot 90% of my landscapes with a long lens. It gives you so many options.
Really great video Kim. Beautiful images!!
Thank you Patty ☺️
Great! We also love Landscape Photography 📸
Kim. I think this was one if the most honest and inspiring videos. You see you demeanor and being change. I think you produced some of your best images. From someone who has been where you have many thanks. Take care and carry on doing what you are doing. The world is an awesome healing place..
Thank you very much for your kind words Ian. The natural world certainly is a great healing place :)
Thank you for opening up like this on video Kim. I'm sure your message will resonate with many, myself included! Love your images of Scotland! I now live down in Cornwall and your videos always make me feel homesick, but in a good way!
Right, off out with my camera...
That's very kind Hudson. Thank you. I hope you can make it home to Scotland for a visit soon. Enjoy your time with your camera :)
I loved this Kim - the photos and the message! I am finding such value in your videos - Thank you!
Looking forward to trying some version of this process.
Cheers from down under
Thank you for the tip David. I will do this from now on. Much appreciated :)
@@kimgrantphotography cheers, I hope I was not over the top with my comments.
Some top tips here, especially to take a ten minute break every so often to relax and gather your thoughts.
Nature has amazing healing qualities !
It certainly does ☺️
Already commented earlier but have shared this with two friends already. Excellent video. Thanks
This also emphasizes something I have said for a long time, especially when shooting wildlife
It is something you need to do on your own, unless you have a partner as equally interested in photography.
Lovely words. Thank you for sharing Eis :)
Wow what a wonderful video and yes sitting in one spot really works , I often do the same on our dunes here on the Durham Coast 😀 ❤️
I’ve been there, Kim. Quite a lot over the last few months, actually. And like you, my way out of it was to get back in nature and create art. I’m going to try this exercise again, I think. Find a spot, and just sit there for a few hours. Lovely work, Kim. 💕
Thank you for sharing your experience Peter. So glad you too have felt the healing powers of nature and creativity :)
Kim thank you for sharing. I relate to this so much and I needed this video more than ever today ❤ THANK YOU
Beautiful Melissa. I'm so glad this video helped you in some way
Thank you very much for sharing 😀
You are an inspiration.
Very kind William - thank you 😀
@@kimgrantphotography I have been in the same situation as you, and it's very hard to find your way out.
Congratulations.
Good to see you reconnect with nature and find your way back to your happy place. I admire you using that big lens, must have been a challenge.
I really enjoyed it :) Excited to do more. Thank you :)
Loved your silhouettes on the beach
Thank you :)
Yes, a new 100-400mm lens will get your inspiration up, got one this year! Be in Scotland the first of Sept
Have a brilliant time when you're here Tim!
simply lovely x
Thank you!
Well done Kim, the first step soon you’re be running, I hate it when motivation sleeps
Good job girl. I also love clouds.
Mike
Beautiful words. Thank you very much for sharing them :)
Honest video and very good photos. Well done.
Thank you 😊
Thanks, it would be nice to see the focal length and shutter speed for each shot
Thank you very much Will. Really glad you liked the photographs 😊
Hi Kim With that lens you should get some nice lighthouse pics............
YES! Maybe soon :)
Not trying to sound like a know it all but you should hook your camera strap to the tripod foot instead of your lens when using a larger lens. It will reduce stress on camera connection point
Thanks Cliff. I'll do this from now on! :)
lovely content and thoughts Kim. I live on the south nr IOW, Clouds/ light can be amazing to "its the looking out the window nr sunset guessing what kind of sunset is due " It defo a mood challenge
Beautiful! Sunsets are lovely to watch. Thank you Davey
I just subscribed to your channel. Your perspectives are very interesting and beautiful, keep it up. Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you very much William and welcome 🙏 It's lovely to have you here!
Deep breathing and listening to t he inner voice and the voice of the Creative Source of the universe who is not punitive or judgmental
A great way to live 🙏
Beautiful shots Kim😁
Thank you
Wow, I am amazed. If I didn't know that you were in Scotland, you could of been on a beach in Australia. Nice lens, that can open up a wider style of photography such as wild life/ bird photography. I hope things improve for you.
Thank you Steve 😊
Very interesting concept. I'll have to try that.
Enjoy John!
Nice feeling video Kim. Can I ask pls what settings you used on the beach photos with the Nikkor 100-400 lens. I assume you had the ISO cranked up. Cheers. Ed
Well said Kim, we all battle demons from time to time. It’s always best to just get out into nature and just enjoy it. Thank you.
It certainly does help ☺️
Great job, great photos.
Nice one Kim, I’m going to try that one myself here on the Dorset coast. I loved those long lens shots 😀🙋🏼♂️
Enjoy Ian :)
Sorry you've had a difficult time recently Richard. Do enjoy getting out and about again ☺️
