Reason why JD said this may not apply to NaDa was because NaDa was famous for playing other games and drinking right before tournament finals and just playing teamgames for fun on Battlenet instead of practicing. Julyzerg was asked for practice before finals and July went in expecting 60-70 games practice session but NaDa told him "thank you" after 4 games and logged off. After 2006 golden mouse, NaDa said on interview "I gave it my all to achieve this, thank you" but FlaSh revealed later on stream that "NaDa just played Sudden Attack all day and used a build he saw once on finals and still won"
I think Nal ra mentioned in his 'oldboy' series that Nada played without gamesounds on and just had music on for better relaxation. its just another one of those stories to illustrate how insanely talented Nada was. Nobody can imagine playing starcraft competitively without gamesounds on.
Thank you very much for these videos and backstory! This channel is amazing for us foreigners who its very hard to see insight into the best brood war players for the best game ever!
jinjin these videos are incredible. It cannot be underestimated how ''mysterious'' the south korean scene was for such a long period of time to us outside korea. Not only because the powerhouse that was SE progaming in starcraft and the language barrier, but truly the Kespa environments regulations and the atmosphere hindered us from connecting more personally with these players. It is such a gem, not just related to starcraft but in how we get a sense of what was going on in the lives of these progamers we grew up watching. These videos and the dubbs are really special. Thank you!
@@andrewzmorris hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. Legends like JD and Flash are made when their innate talent is honed through smart work ethic.
@@andrewzmorris I also think mindset, confidence, and some innate psychological traits helped with that. Also making a commitment to truly understand the game vs just mindlessly practicing the game over and over again play a huge role.
To clarify, Bisu didn't go to Thailand right before his final vs Savior. I don't remember exactly, but it was smth like 1-2 weeks before. He had more then enough time to practice. He was criticized for not going full Korean non-stop practice mode, but from "international" perspective it was ok.
People: must be nice playing games all day while making money JaeDong: We practiced sc strats all day outside of eating and sleeping for years; no internet allowed, we only played via LAN
Thank you for these translations, really interesting video! I wish they'd ask him about the effects of these practice schedules in the context of injuries, since he's one of many great players who has suffered them, specifically if he sees an upper limit on how much lots of practice can benefit your game before it becomes counter productive because it's too taxing on the body.
Strange because I remember an interview with Jaedong and Bisu, Jaedong was saying when he went to SKT house they were silent and just practising all the time, unlike his team.
Do you have any videos explaining exactly what they did for 12-16 hours a day in game without Battlenet? You mention Julyzero expected 60-70 games v Nada when asked to practice, but how would those games had been structured? All customs with no specific instructions? Or would players ask for customs vs X build when opening with Y build, over and over? Then switching to holding X build when opening with Z build and so on? Or micro trainers?...
remember when fantasy robbed him after he dragged Oz to the proleague finals, with a bunker rush? and one week of radio silence later JD cracked his fucking skull at the OSL final

Hard work will never betray you is such a nice summary.
except if you are NaDa!
Bit of survivorship bias though. How many people worked just as hard as Flash or Jaedong yet couldn't get good results?

Looking forward to JD's triumphant return from the army.
Thank you for this video, JinJin.
I think on his latest post he says he has 200 days to go but I'm not sure if that's correct.
amazing job jinjin
Thank you man! You're the best channel on UA-cam. ❤️🙂

FlaSh does talk about it and a lot of pros talk about how their wrists hurt but its byproduct of seeking glory for trophies and honors
love you jinjin, watched and subbed and liked the original video too :)

so nada is the genius of geniuses of broodwar??
Pretty much. I have seen that stated about him from other pro players, as well.
He was well known the only pro gamer played other games constantly beside SC still remained top and win titles for years

Great video. JD spiting facts.
I always wonder what happened with July, Savior, Hwasin, Boxer, Nada and Oov. anyone got an idea?
I just saw Boxer recently in a Korean variety show. He's now a poker player and is married to an actress.
