I think I am totally in love with you even though I am an older woman! In all seriousness, I am so grateful to you for providing these videos. I am 69 years old and just got my first Mac and not being particularly computer savvy, I had so much to learn. I find your videos so much easier to understand. You don't speak so fast and the pace you use and examples you provide with such comprehensiveness are amazing. I look to your sites first when looking up a topic. I just purchased your NewTo Mac Sierra and one thing I want to bring u in I so wish CC options were included. I depend so much on cc to help me understand topics. Again, many thanks to you for all you do.
Great classes. When we introduced my 80 yr old mother inlaw to a Mac Book Pro I sent her a link for one of your video intro classes. By watching your classes, she hardly calls me now with computer questions. I like to thank your for the easy to understand and detailed explanations. I also find many of them very informative. Thanks. Keep up the great job.
I love your videos. If it wasn't for your videos I would not have been able to switch from Microsoft to Apple. At my age, 74, I need to go over things more than once to get it to sink in and because I can pause the videos to do the steps you explain so well and clearly I am able to accomplish what I need to do. Please don't ever stop doing what you do so , we all need you.
Thank you! I have been waiting on this video! I installed Sierra, but didn't even waste my time with other tutorials...I knew that you would cover what I really needed to know! Thanks again!
This is the tenth video I've watched from this guy, David. He is the best trainer I've every had; I've had a lot of training! Thank you so much for the generous teaching; much appreciated.
David, mother of four whose children said that if I did not get into the apple world they would stop texting me! I went from an android and PC to iPhone and MacBook pro in a week. My 16 year old really dislikes you! I was 2 hours from just giving her all my new toys when I found your first class! Thank you... keep teaching!
for me it was the other way around ...mother of 3 teens with macs each one and then i wanted mine...they said: mom you are not going to be able to handle a mac... so I first found Davids clases and then felt confident on buying MY MAC haha! So I showed my kids that could handle a mac as a pro thanks to Davids clases!!! Fan #1
Thank you for this quality instruction on what is under the hood of this new operating system. I am especially grateful for the PDF file. There is so much more there and I do not have to worry about taking notes.
Great videos David. Very informative. Would love a video about caring for the battery. I see the battery health percentage but have no idea if it is good for it's age. Apple doesn't teach how to best prolong battery life. Just a thought.
Great work there David. I am actually very new to Mac, just bought the 2015 MacBook Pro a month ago. Trust me i just went though this video and the other one (Lean the Mac in Under an Hour) and i already feel comfortable and know how to handle and access my Mac. Appreciate the amount of effort and the research you have put down in each one of your videos. Thank you. .!
David - I've been using Sierra since it was released, but just came across this class today. As always I learned new things and was reminded of things I knew but had forgotten about. Thanks for another useful tutorial.
Hi Mr Cox. I have just found you as I was looking for advice on OS Sierra. What a fantastic find! I have learnt so much and will continue to follow you. Thank you so much for all your advice. I use UA-cam as my main 'educator' and turn to it as soon as I need to know about something.
Thanks so very much for your informative videos. Last year I watched many of your videos before purchasing my mac so that I'd at least know what I was doing as a new user. And continue to do so!
My number one place to go to learn about all things Apple and especially MAC. I often refer David to others (especially in my local Apple Store). Excellent job and very appreciated.
Thank you David, I fortuitously came apon your "Our Favorite Mac OS Sierra Features" video. I loved finding out about those features which I can customize. I just upgraded from Lion to Sierra.
I so new to IMAC and I am so grateful on all your videos. I had difficulty playing around with it but as you are explaining things here I am able to follow you and even went along with your preferred set ups. I highly recommend and continue to follow all your thorough and clear instructions. I feel like I am actually sitting in a class. I know the Apple Stores have classes but they are usually full or just don't work with my schedule. So I am so happy to have found you here. Thank you and keep the workshops coming.
Great videos! Would you happen to have a video about capitalizing on using a Mac/iPhone/iPad together? I had a MacBook in college, but I was always an android user. Sold my MacBook, got an iPhone a while later, so I’ve never had them at the same time. Just bought a MacBook Air and I’m excited to see how they talk to each other.
Just want to say thank you for your easy to understand videos. Do you do any tutorials on Adobe Creative Cloud? I find most other educators jump around to much. But your tutorials are very clear and precise. Thanks again, good job.
THANK YOU!!! I've been all Apple for about 15 years but my "nothing wrong with" but "no longer supported" iMac has been sitting in my office for years while I primarily do everything with my iPad and iPhone. Buying a new MacBook Pro recently, I realized how much my brain had shifted from working on a computer to working with a portable device that uses Apps. When I started with my iPad many years ago, I wasn't a fan of Apps because I felt it was a watered down version of what I could access online but now I'm having to retrain my brain to recognize (and in some cases - reverse) the differences between my MBP and iPad/iPhone. I will be watching all of your videos as I try to remain current in the always changing tech world. Thank you for outstanding content and a HUGE sigh of relief that I can do this.
We are so glad we can help! And don't allow yourself to get overwhelmed. In the vast majority of cases, tech doesn't change as quickly as people think. In terms of using a computer, nearly all functions remain the same from year to year, so it's only minor changes to keep up with annually (and that's only if you update the OS). You can do it!
Thanks for the video. Its really helpful to decide weather i should upgrade or not. I am a fan of you David. Your style is simply wonderful. You enjoy explaining and i enjoy listening. Thanks David.
Hi, Mr. David It's always a source of good knowledge to watch your videos. I always spent my most of the time on your website.. Thanks a Lot Jay Dubai-U.A.E.
David, Love your videos. Thank you for sharing! Also, the quality of your videos is outstanding. I'm curious, what editing software are you using to share your screen while still appearing at the bottom left and right? Thank you.
Thank you so much for your videos!!! I am a new person who has just moved to Apple from being a lifelong Windows user. Really helps!! Please keep them coming =)
What is the difference between finder icon and tab? Also, what is a better value, macbook pro retina 13 with imac 5k, or macbook pro retina 15 maxed out with ultra wide display?
Amazing videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to put all of this information together. Thank you for sharing it for free. These videos are so helpful and so easy to follow. You are great at explaining and you also make it interesting. Thank you and best wishes.
Hey David, as alway great class thanks for all the info on the new OS Sierra. I was wondering what was it all about & if I should make the change. Not yet decided so will wait & watch. Thanks again. God Bless You.
David I want to thank you for the content you create for the Macs's. I have a late 2012 model 27 mac with 1TB drive, 32 gig of Ram and a 6TB CalDigit thunderbolt station. I cut my teeth on Cray super computers back in the day and still use windows in the office (20 plus years) I had the hardest time getting use to the Mac and I must say that I am often frustrated with some of Mac idiosyncrasies. If it was not for your videos I probably would have given up trying to be productive with it. I keep hoping that apple will round out the user interface so that there is more then one way to do the same task. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Mark Collier So many, where to begin, I guess I will start with my top complaints. For starters when you save a file you can't right click in the expanded 'save file dialog box' to create a new folder, you must click on the new folder button, but in finder you can right click in a folder to create a new folder. In Text editor there is no file save as option, so how does one save a copy of what you are editing while in the text editor application. Keyboard short cuts are not standard, there is no control insert because there is not an insert key plus they use command and not control, stupid. Don't get me started on the icons associated with the short cut keys, what the heck are they suppose to be and how do they relate to command, option, control, and shit; actually control and shift do make sense because they are standards but not command and option. Here is a big one, how do you control system fonts, with a 27 inch mac set for hi res the fonts are too small. There is some control but it is clunky and behaves inconsistently across the desktop. These are the little things I think apple needs to do to polish up what are consider and pretty darn good OS.
David. Good morning to you. Thanks for your classes. Question: When I save a file, it normally creates a backup folder. How do disconnect this feature?
Thanks for the lessons really so helpful I recommend you to any one who is struggling with learning these product. I'd be lost without your help. Regars Johnny
Hi David! your videos are very informative. ordinary peeps can easily relate to it coz your teachings is clear and very precise. My only concern is the new feature of picture in picture in safari. See, i love to play music on youtube whenever im working on other stuff in my macbook, but if i dont think it stays open everytime the next song plays. Where do i go wrong here? thank you sooo much and more power to you and your staffs!
I need this platform. I've been a Mac user for nearly 20 years and I'm flummoxed by all of the software, how everything works it's over whelming. I'm signing up for the "New to Mac series." Thanks BTW
Hi David. I understand that Apple Pay may offer us additional sense of security by notifying us whenever our card got used, it is to be noted that this feature is not available in the country whose banks doesn't support Apple Pay service
Enjoined information of your knowledge! Starting new to mac, just tired of windows upgrade every year/and all problems with it. Going to see other videos you have done with hope the next is as good (information) to share knowledge. I'm sure it all gets better. Thank You........
Sometime ago I ran across one of your classes that show you to retrieve passwords on your Mac. Could please tell me what vid I can find this class? Thank you and should I go to Best Buy get my back hard drive? :-)
Thank you Mr. Cox for your vids. I like some others don't do anything without consulting your site first. OH, how do I put files on my desktop? Thanks, I get it
did you ever find out if time machine still back up the data from purgable data? dunno if I trust souly iCloud for back up rather than iCloud and time machine. much love David!
Very informative - thank you! As a Mac user since 1986 I have had a policy of never updating the OS until version x.x.3 (minimum) is released so that early bugs are ironed out. With this update is it time to change that policy? Just how solid have you found OS Sierra to be?
I made the upgrade about a month ago and ever since I have had nothing but issues. Can you tell me how to downgrade back to El Capitan or give some advice on making Sierra work? Thanks!
Dawn Nestor Since we don't know what you're experiencing, we can't make recommendations, but there are a lot of helpful articles out there that can guide you through downgrading. Here's one: m.imore.com/how-downgrade-macos-sierra-back-os-x-el-capitan
Downloaded Sierra and its pretty good, especially like Siri. Only problem I’m encountering is my 2016 MacBook pro has started to run very hot, the fan is blowing hard. I run activity monitor and safari and mail are off the clock, close them down and the mac cools back to normal. Open them again and all is normal.
I have upgraded to macos sierra twice on my imac and each time it really slowed down so I went back to el capitan and everything runs fine. I really liked sierra do you have any suggestions?
Thank you for another great video, David. I have a question on completely unrelated topic. My wife accidentally deleted all her photos on her Galaxy S6. Is there any way to recover them? I saw your class on recovering data on iPhone . Nothing on Galaxy though. Tried few apps-no success. Any advice is highly appreciated. If advice is not free let me know the best way to get in touch with you. Once again thank you for everything you are doing. Always a great help
Did she back up her phone anywhere? I know all Android phones come with a few options to do that when you first set them up. Restoring from a backup should be an easy process. If not, unfortunately, I think she's out of luck. Going forward, always, always, always have your phone and photos backed up. We think everyone should be using Google Photos since it's unlimited and free.
No, she didn't. The irony is: it happened while she was setting up her Google Photos account. Can't tell how it happened, Thank you for responding though
Hi David, ever since I updated into McOS Sierra, I have now 2 desktops on my Mac. One was for the old version, and the other is for the Sierra. My concern now is how to show only one desktop which is the Sierra, and if possible to delete the old version. Are you able to show me how please? Many thanks!
Great tips on some of the new features. I like the dwell idea for ALS, as that is what I am living with, and can definitely see a benefit to that. Thanks again for that, I'd never known that existed until watching this video. BTW, I emailed you before about my email issue and with the upgrade of the OS, it fixed it. ~ Chris
What do you recommend as an alternative to iTunes. I only use music I own (ripped CDs, & vinyl). No interest in Apple Music, Spotify. etc. Would like to rip to FLAC on my Mac for use on a dedicated player and also be able to convert FLAC to Apple Lossless to play on my iPhone. Thanks
They may be - we just haven't had any experience with any of them, so we can't recommend any of them. iTunes has worked well when ripping CDs for us (back when we had CDs), so we've not looked at any other options for that.
thank you for your videos on youtube i had bought iPhone 7 plus but i had two problems first i didn't have FaceTime application on it seconds when i wright massage on iMessages i can't complete it from my mac as you say? thanks a lot i hope you answer me soon
Sorry for the delay in answering. We can't keep up with all of the questions here, especially when they are off topic. All iPhones come with Facetime. If yours didn't, there's something very fishy there. Contact Apple right away.
David, I've never used Mac's mail app b/c I only have web-based accounts (Gmail & Yahoo). I made the mistake of giving it a try and Mail connected with my accounts so now my Mac is full of hundreds of thousands of emails & their attachments! At least in Yahoo mail, I can click on the little search icon and easily find messages from the same sender, but there's no such feature in Mail! The articles I've found online and in Help say to enter search operators. This seems awfully laborious if I want to find and delete large numbers of emails at the same time. I also tried sorting by attachments, so I could get rid of the largest files first, but that doesn't seem to work. I did a Spotlight search and have managed to find and delete messages directly from their folders in Finder. But that's still excruciatingly slow. Any advice?
I have tried the Brother PT-P700 with my Apple Desktop and my Apple MacBook Air and the unit keeps saying a unknown error has occurred . I plugged it into my old laptop with windows 10 on it and the labeler works just fine .... Apple web site says they have updated the drivers for the Brother PT-P700 ...
Hi Sir. I upgraded my MacBook air model 2014 last night to sierra and after the my laptop is having issues of working and getting hang. pls help me with the same
After I check some photos as favorite can I go back to photos and delete those favorites from favorite folder while keeping them in my library? I went to delete and got message will remove from Icloud and all devices.
it seems like I just updated my mac yesterday and I don't really need siri on my mac so should I just hold off on upgrading to this new os? I have a mid 2010 Mac, the cheapest for the time of purchase at best buy. I also think that this is going to be the last compatible update for my mac.
David Lance That's up to you, of course. You can check out the list of new features and decide if any of them are compelling enough for you to upgrade. That answer will be different for everyone.
i have a question my macbook pro can also run windows i was wondering if i can run both so i can play videogames on windows and do my photography on mac
Have a question, I'm going to trade in my iPhone . Do I delete everything before or should I let the carrier do that? How do I know my trade in information will b permanently deleted.
I never upgraded from Yosemite because of the compatibility problems I read about with Adobe products, mainly Lightroom and Photoshop so I was always scared to upgrade. Is it ok to upgrade to Sierra if I use Lightroom and PS CC all the time and occasionally use Final Cut Pro and will I run into issues?
We can't speak to all of those programs, but I have had issues with Final Cut Pro crashing recently. Don't know if that's related to Sierra or FCP updates or something different altogether. Your best bet is to check on the user forums for those applications to see what other people have experienced to get more complete insight.

Dawn Nestor Since we don't know what you're experiencing, we can't make recommendations, but there are a lot of helpful articles out there that can guide you through downgrading. Here's one: m.imore.com/how-downgrade-macos-sierra-back-os-x-el-capitan
Thanks David, this was my first class it was great.
I really liked sierra do you have any suggestions?
albertzappa No. If your experience hasn't been what you had hoped, sticking with the previous makes sense.
Do you have any recommendations for Brain injury usage of computer? Hard to locate helpful assistance?
Is there a way to contact you, other than leaving message here in order to suggest a possible topic for future talk?
Thanks David, very informative.
Many thanks!
good review. can u keep all photos in external hd?
Great video, subscribed!
~ Chris
Quick notice regarding Handoff function: it doesn't work if the device where you wanna paste is locked.
Another great class! Thanks, David!
Enjoyed your video. It was very easy to follow.
Yep. iTunes is a ducking can't these days. :) I now have about 3 songs available and it asks me to enter my password 3 or 4 times when I open it up.
Thanks
Well, you eliminated everything we enjoy and would have recommended, so we don't have any additional ones.
Thanks. I'm not interested in streaming music--just ripping CDs & vinyl to FLAC on a Mac. Seems like JRiver and XLD are good choices in the OSX world.
They may be - we just haven't had any experience with any of them, so we can't recommend any of them. iTunes has worked well when ripping CDs for us (back when we had CDs), so we've not looked at any other options for that.
just bought new macbook pro should i update what its asking for with the captain 10.12 first or do the sierra??
Thanks david. This was great. Very usefull. Also great video work. Cheers.
thank you for your videos on youtube
i had bought iPhone 7 plus but i had two problems
first i didn't have FaceTime application on it
seconds when i wright massage on iMessages i can't complete it from my mac as you say?
thanks a lot i hope you answer me soon
Sorry for the delay in answering. We can't keep up with all of the questions here, especially when they are off topic.
All iPhones come with Facetime. If yours didn't, there's something very fishy there. Contact Apple right away.
DAVID THANK U VERY MUCH- A TRUE PITY I DID NOT HAVE A TEACHER LIKE U WHEN I WAS SCHOOLING,..
Any advice?
Thank you soooo much for all your videos I have learned a lot and enjoy them all
As always nice job, David!
Is there a way to change the default folder when you back up your iphone and ipad to an external hard drive?
Hi Sir. I upgraded my MacBook air model 2014 last night to sierra and after the my laptop is having issues of working and getting hang. pls help me with the same
Very, very informative! Keep doing what you do please. Thank you so much!
Very helpful. Thank you very much.
That answer will be different for everyone.
i have a question my macbook pro can also run windows i was wondering if i can run both so i can play videogames on windows and do my photography on mac
you mention download manager, but i can't remember seeing where you said it was or how to use it
Have a question, I'm going to trade in my iPhone . Do I delete everything before or should I let the carrier do that? How do I know my trade in information will b permanently deleted.
Off topic, but I'll answer real quick - Yes, always erase your phone. Never give it to anyone else before doing so.
thank u!
Thank you for all you do.
Could you please tell me where the Language and Text feature is? I have Language and Region. I'd like to access my Glyphs.
