Thank you for this video! I followed your seed saving "recipe" for cucumbers and then planted a couple to make sure it worked, and now I have 2 new cucumber plants coming up!! So thank you
I really enjoy seeing a black family living harmoniously that is sharing the homestead lifestyle. I'm 67 and blessed to have a son that owns an organic farm in Grey's Harbor Washington, that took to heart that food and water are more valuable than gold which he has heard from me since he was very young. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and journey.
That was good information to share. I’ve saved seeds from peppers, peas, beans, and some flowers, but not on some things you’ve shown. I’ll now try to save seeds on cucumbers, melons, sunflowers and Zinnias. Last fall I tried to save seeds from some pie pumpkins. I didn’t remove the plug stuff, I just let them set out to dry. I thought they were dry enough to store, but when I got all my seeds out at the beginning of this year I found they had molded. I put them in our compost pile. My hubby plowed all our compost in our garden area back in February. Then in March I had volunteer plants come up all over the garden. They looked like squash and tomato plants. I transplanted the healthy volunteers into single cups. I kept several to transplant in my garden where I wanted them and gave the others to friends. Well the tomatoes did all produce, which was good. The plants I thought were squash turned out to be pumpkins. Thankful most my friends love a surprise and were happy they got pumpkins, but one friend was not happy bc she wanted squash. Well, pumpkins are a type of squash, just wasn’t the kind of squash she wanted. So I learned a lesson from that experience. If volunteers grow, I either just keep them myself, or not try to guess what they are if friends want them. I really try not to trash a volunteer, but sometimes one has to do that if the garden space is limited. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of seed saving, it was helpful. We appreciate you!
I just noticed that your PO BOX was in Cottageville. Fun fact. I grew up there and went to what was called Walterboro high but they have changed the name now. My family still lives in Walterboro and I come back at least once a month.
Lovely video I’ve never saved cucumber seeds because it’s mostly F1 this year I will though because they are quite expensive. Yellow peppers don’t usually turn red. If they are proper yellow bell peppers.
Very interesting thank you. I just recently learned where the seeds are on mustard greens. They produce pods ❤️ so amazing. I remember showing my daughter where the seeds are in a petunia when she was little and she was so so amazed. It was so cute.
Thank you so much! It is so important to know how to gather and store seed’s. You make it so doable. Absolutely ❤ your hat! Looking good & staying cool. Perfect 👍
After their done drying how do you store them? And where’s the best place to store them? Also how long will the seeds last? Thank your for your content and sharing !
I store mine in small plastic bags like the ones you get for pills in Walmart. Or just ziplock bags, depending on how many seeds I have. Seeds last many years as long as stored properly. Cool and dry. I planted seeds this year from 2017
I have always had almost a 100% germination rate with purchased seeds, especially if they are new packs. I actually never paid attention to germination on seeds I've saved 😅 I think maybe because I've never had a problem 🤷🏾 haha

That's awesome! I'm so glad to hear that 🥰
You did it 🥳
All my peppers and most of my tomatoes, potatoes are from shop bought vegetables. Seed saving is so vital today

Thank you so much for this comment 🥰 I appreciate it
Seeds with a membrane are easy to harvest in a bowl of water. Drain and rinse once with clean water.
Thanks for the video, you have red yellow and orange peppers and paprika. The yellow and orange keep this color and do not turn red.

That's awesome you were still able to get some pumpkins from the seeds you saved even if it wasn't the way you thought 🙂
Great job saving seeds
Important for people to know how to collect and save seeds.
Learning so much! Never considered saving seeds from things I have grown.
I just saved seeds from a cantaloupe on yesterday. It was so many seeds! I also saved Jubilee watermelon seeds.
They do have sooooo many seeds!!!! That's awesome
Happy Sunday 💗 Blessings ❤️

That's awesome haha Cottageville is such a small town. We've only lived this way since mid Oct
I just pulled up a rosemary I found growing in my front yard because I missed getting the seeds when my main plant flowered
That's awesome 😎

@@faithfamilyhomestead thank you!!
great video, important skill to know
Very helpful video!
Thank you for this video
You're welcome 🙂
I think the germination rate on your seeds is much better than purchased seed. Do you find that to be true in your own experience?
I have always had almost a 100% germination rate with purchased seeds, especially if they are new packs. I actually never paid attention to germination on seeds I've saved 😅 I think maybe because I've never had a problem 🤷🏾 haha
That was good info!!
Awesome video! Thanks for the hands on training 😎
Food is food, it makes me sad when people say not to save seed from hybrids
💕
❤️
Do the seeds need to be heirloom, or can I save any seeds?
You can save any seeds but if they are a hybrid you will not get the same variety. Also if it is cross pollinated you could get a mix
The way I collect potato seeds is very applicable for tomato seeds. You can see that in the next video ua-cam.com/video/gzdC3xRxT4c/v-deo.html
Hello Dom! 🥰
