And one of her greatest achievements is not even mentionned in this movie: Encouraging the French leaders to follow the English army and to destroy it ("Make use of your spurs!") which then really happened in the battle of Patay. But, if you are interested, there is another woman who also achieved victories against an almost overwhelming invading force, the Vikings. It was Aethelflaed, eldest daughter of king Alfred the Great. She was married to the Aethelred, Lord of the Mercians. When the health of her much older husband deteriorated, she took over control of the realm. Together with her brother Edward, she fought the Vikings successfully, in some cases with an army of her own and re-conquered much former English territory from the enemy. She also did a great deal of fortifying against the enemy. Her contribution was more that of organization from the top than that inspirational impetus of Joan of Orleans.

Joan of Arc or Jehanne la Pucelle ' story , is probably the most interesting story from the Hundred Year War era. Yet, this was a not a religious story, it was political ! A nasty political struggle between two royal families. If you take the time to read the first authors in Medieval French, from the late 15th century to the 17th century, it's politics at his best. It became a ''religious story'' by about 1840. After the German-Franco War of 1870, France was in turmoil. A hero was needed ! Then, in 1879, the Roman Catholic Church from Paris requested from the Vatican, the sainthood application of the now called , Maid of Orléans ! She became after numerous events, a saint only in 1920 ! France had now a hero and a saint !

When see a guy with two flails...just run
Ah... fellow chucker, eh?
5:36 Do you know what is up with this? Buck (English captain) is portrayed as having a massive herpes outbreak, but this isn't referenced at all before nor is he shown having it when Charles is informed Orleans is lost. Was this supposed to be meaningful to the plot, or the actor just had an outbreak and they couldn't cover it up or delay the shot?

movie name?
Joan of Arc 1999
Who’s the character who gets knocked on the head?
@SpecialK234- me.
How do the english know what a porcupine is? They are native to North America
There are porcupines also in africa, asia and some parts of europe.
Is that machine historically accurate?😮
"La Hire, TO ARMS!!!"
"Yes! 👀"
Haha! 🤣
She must come from the American part of france. You know that part that was there before America was discovered
She's actually Ukrainian. She immigrated to the US when she was 6
@Frank Castle Mother are Russian and father are Serbien but lived in Ukraine

Rapis Soldiers
Harry Connick Jr. was a great Joan of Arc.
Best part 4:44 - 7:36 😂 🍺
This is great movie. It was just Dustin Hofman who was badly cast. Rest of the actors were great and spot one.
Too short! You ended it too soon!
{:o:O:}
5:45 - "And now... we are fucked."
Great movie and this scene in particular due to the tragic soundtrack going with it imo. This movie is meant for you to root for the French, so sadly you get all most despicable characters in this scene being English for instance. Yet you still feel for the poor lads crushed by the drawbridge here or begging for mercy there.
The monarchs and nobles in England at that time were also Norman French. French against French.
Eh, rooting for the french. I thought the french were the comedic interlude
@@anthonygerace8926
The Normans were not French.
William the Conqueror was certainly not speaking French.
When he attacked England,
his troops had black Raven flags !! Not very ''French'' !
Vikings !?
However, even with the Norman conquest of England,
and with time and the aristocracy spoke Medieval French, for two centuries,
the general population stayed Anglo-Saxon.
How could they burn brilliant people's with good knowledge
this is what you called i do my killings before breakfast
Love this scene. What's the music at the end (I'm being that person)? Awesome sound.
Am a Lates saals GetMa? THAITANIC
To ARMS! hahahaha
GOD WILL FORGIVE YOU BUT I WONT
I am so fucking glad I checked this scene out before watching this movie. I hate how this is filmed zooming into objects and people’s faces so close, feels like that French director’s style who did amalie and Alien res, horrible style
5:37 is a perfect example
❤️🤘💯
Christ that gate was weak
It was a draw bridge so typically a battering ram wouldn't be able to to get to it so may not have needed or been able to be reinforced like a typical gate
I Always Agree To Attack... Also Arms!
I'm not fully religious but both sides holding the same cross killing each other it shouldn't be this way. Sorry to be fatal on you but it had to be said.
Joan of Arc or Jehanne la Pucelle ' story , is probably the most interesting story from the Hundred Year War era.
Yet, this was a not a religious story, it was political !
A nasty political struggle between two royal families.
If you take the time to read the first authors in Medieval French,
from the late 15th century to the 17th century, it's politics at his best.
It became a ''religious story'' by about 1840.
After the German-Franco War of 1870, France was in turmoil.
A hero was needed !
Then, in 1879, the Roman Catholic Church from Paris requested from the Vatican, the sainthood application of the now called ,
Maid of Orléans !
She became after numerous events, a saint only in 1920 !
France had now a hero and a saint !
In reality she was shot by a crossbow in the throat and survived. But it was too unrealistic to put in the movie
😂She is ridiculous. You see 5 minutes of the silent version, and it kind of hurts every scene in this one with Joan speaking, but that doesn't really matter. This is still a pretty good movie.
IF the movie stayed on this funny brutal tone it could be easly one of best movies ever, but the other grim part killed it.. you can go grim depressive or humor fantasy...do both in one movie is bad idea:/
Screw that, I’d refuse to fight until I had my 2nd morning coffee.
Pourquoi ils font les débiles les Cassels et autres, c'est nul, Jeanne était une sainte, les voilà encore diffamant le pays, une fois de plus.
It sad how thy kill her at the end cuz she help win the war
It is. Frakking politics killed her. She was invincible in battle
excréments ridicules
Could have been a great movie, however key strategic error on the casting of the lead
Girlfriend.
Also arms?

2:42 fuck...
These arms are way too.., army?
"To ARMS!" Yeah, I think, maybe, just a little, the English underestimated this peasant girl ... alas, God didn't 😀
Please, she was not a ''peasant girl '' and she was a woman.
She arrived in Chinon with Yolande d'Anjou, at 21 !
The father was the ''prevot'' for the entire region.
This was an important family from the Barrois region !
