I remember this song being played on the radio station, Double J, in the early 80's. Asides from that, the only song I know by this band is ''I Know What Boys Like''.
I'm surprised he didn't enjoy it as much as she did, because after all it's got all the good ingredients of a good Pop/Rock song: Strong rhythm guitar work, a strong bassline and damn good saxophone. Patty Donahue was not a strong vocalist, but hey, she literally never sang professionally before she was in this band. (The history of how this band got together in the first place is quite fascinating in and of itself.) And you have to admit she has to basically rap and sing at the same time and very quickly too and in rhythm to the rest of the song, so what you think of as "simple" really wasn't simple at all. There's actually a lot going on in the song and I'm surprised the guy didn't really hear that. I'm a Metalhead and I love this song. It just totally works for me and it's one of the very few Christmas songs I actually love.
Thanks for playing this, great little ditty that doesn't take itself too seriously and always gets the party bouncing.
Fun good stuff held up after all these years love you
Love the way Patty delivers a line.
Such a good song

Check out their other song " I Know What Boys Like" they also did the theme song to the TV show Square Pegs starring a very young Sarah Jessica Parker
We know I Know What Boys Like.
You may have picked up the horn section earworm on TV as the track has been played on quite a few TV shows and movies
I remember this well.
The waitresses were exactly what the name suggests
Smiling but dying inside?

One of my fave holiday tunes along with Christmas Day by Squeeze
Patty Donahue (original singer) died of lung cancer in 1996
I know. 😢 I just found that out a little while ago for the first time. She was only 40 years old, goddammit. 😢
