    Just come back yesterday from doing the circular road myself
    Took 8 days
    so much more snow and heavy conditions in the hills with it being March,
    Seriously hard driving at times!
    some awesome sights,
    Did the trip clockwise.

Thanks for the tips and amazing drone footage -- I'm pretty sure we'll have to invest in a drone before we go. My bf has wanted to get one for a long time. Seems like Iceland provides a good excuse to buy one! :)

      Just a heads up. I have visited Iceland twice, once in the winter and did the camper van on the ring road in the summer.. IN February, I doubt you will be able to drive the entire ring road as sometimes there is no access to the east end of the island due to the snow. Driving may be dicey..

      We did this on a fairly tight budget (it was not typical honeymoon spending). We went with a budget-friendly campervan company (so that was our transportation and accommodations every day), then we bought the cheapest groceries we could find and just ate that simple food all week pretty much. And nearly all of the activities we did each day were free (all of the hikes and visiting waterfalls and lagoons). The most expensive thing we did was the SCUBA diving. It's always fun to have a splurge :)

    A born & bred Icelander (West Fjords) I am always curious about how other nations see our country. This year (2020) we are in the curious situation of being able to re-visit the original curiosities of our country without falling over tourists everywhere. This year will have almost no international travel due to the Coronavirus, and we locals should be practical: We are not going to be allowed our regular haunts in Spain/Portugal/Italy/Greece/Florida/California...
    You get the idea: International travel will be reserved for important diplomats this summer, we have to "travel at home" this year.

    great inspiration & tips! I'm currently planning my first Iceland trip, late this year or early next, and this is definitely one of the top informative and also inspirational videos I've found... (hoping for between 1-2 weeks total, heading north first and ending at the blue lagoon, because... well, because...)
    Out of curiosity.... how much do you think you spent in gas (ballpark approximation!) on your trip around the ring road? I'm trying to budget and that is one area I'm having a hard time nailing down. (the combination of me straight sucking at math + converting litres to gallons + kilometers to miles + dollars to krona + not exactly knowing the mileage of my potential vehicle or other variables = me just beating my head against a wall hahaha)
    Also - as a long time scuba diver/commercial diver -thanks for the scuba idea... i honestly did not think to consider it!

    Loved the video! Very informational and useful. I'm actually taking a trip to Iceland myself with a friend in a few months but I had not considered a campervan. I'm curious, since you didn't do hotels/airbnb, roughly how much did your trip cost? I'm just wondering because my itinerary will be pretty much like yours.

    • @TheQKatie
      @TheQKatie  7 років тому

      So glad you enjoyed the video!! Have such a blast in Iceland -- it's a stunning country. We DEFINITELY saved money by doing the campervan. Compare the prices you find online for a week of a campervan (which is both travel and accommodations), versus a rental car and an Air BnB each night. You can go super simple with your campervan (which is what we did), or we saw some pretty pimped out ones on the road, too!

    • @kibretalem6813
      @kibretalem6813 7 років тому

      This video definitely convinced me to do the campervan route versus Airbnb. It really is cheaper and more enjoyable as you are able to stop where ever and spend however long you want. Thanks for your video! Will keep you updated with my trip this winter. Hopefully I will catch some northern lights!

    Hello and congratulations on this video! I am planning on going to Iceland in a few days and was wondering, as I am vegan and you are a food specialist, if being vegan on a road trip in Iceland would be challenging at all? Thank you very much for your reaction. x

    • @TheQKatie
      @TheQKatie  7 років тому

      Hello! Glad you enjoyed the video -- thanks for watching. It would be SO easy to maintain your vegan diet on the road, since it's all a matter of what you get at the grocery store when you shop for the trip! We pretty much lived on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and rice/pasta with veggies for our meals (because that's easiest when traveling via camper van)! You should have no problems at all :)

    • @jmdmceramics

      If you Google the prices for a camper van, that'll tell you the ballpark because it was really just that amount plus the groceries! It was a very budget-friendly trip. (the most expensive thing we did was the SCUBA dive, but it was worth it!!! all of the other adventures/activities were free)

    Im traveling to iceland august 9 and i have a quick question, is it hard to find the different attraction for example having to go through lots of different roads or is it pretty straight forward. Lastly what road map of iceland do you recommend p.s Love the video :)

    Hi katie! nice video! Me and my girlfriend just bought tickets for Iceland. We're going 12 days in august and I think we're going to do the same trip you took. Just wanted to ask you: did you guys ever sleep outside of camping area? thanx!

    • @TheQKatie
      @TheQKatie  7 років тому +1

      Hi Francesco! That's amazing -- you two will have such a fantastic trip. And great question -- we stayed in campsites every night with our campervan...it was just so nice to have showers and sinks to use!! We talked about pulling aside somewhere random off the road, but we never did it. There are some laws about where you can and where you can't do that, so if you and your girlfriend want to sleep outside camping areas, just make sure you're familiar with where you're allowed to camp. Have SUCH FUN!!! It's a gorgeous country.

    • @krisku100
      @krisku100 6 років тому

      Actually in Iceland you can pretty much camp anywhere that is safe to pull off. There are no laws about camping off the road if safe and there is very little law enforcement at all. They do have cameras in some towns to check speed so be careful as the tickets for having your licence plate photographed can be up to $500 fine.

    C'mon -have you never seen a bird "do it's bit" before? Whenever a bird takes off in panic (i.e. in surprise) it "dumps a load". The less you carry, the better you fly (My old-retired-airline-pilot philosophy).
    Did you know that the only aperture birds use for EVERYTHING (shitting, shagging, laying eggs) has the apt name of "cloaca"...

      It's is ABSOLUTELY helpful. We got a bit stuck one time and had to get bailed out by a 4-wheel drive SUV.

    I enjoyed to whatch your video and wish you guys a lot of luck in your marriage. Something I can't understand and sorry to say this, is why do people have to go over that abandoned aircraft, you are not the first I see doing this, that's an iconic mark of Iceland and people destroying it every day, I would not be surprised to see a rope one of these days around it not allowing people to get closer... and then... there it goes the clean picture that everybody want to take of of an abandoned aircraft. Nice video though.

    The order and timing of your vists makes you liars. FFS just switch on GPS location when you take your videos.,
