Thank you, I wanted to clarify that, too. The people wearing are memories of people he knew, I'm guessing. I think the person on the swing passed out is his mother who writes about because she left him.

Congratulations on discovering one of my favorite artists! I'm a bit of an "NF Reaction addict", so I stumbled upon your channel this morning. A few things... This video ("The Search") was shot in Iceland. You did a great job trying to decipher the symbolism -- the balloons indeed represent his burdens -- but, as you mentioned, you're missing some context; this song is the first song off his 2019 album "The Search". He weaves together a lot of symbols throughout his music/videos, beginning with his 2015 album "Mansion" (followed by "Therapy Session" 2016, and "Perception" 2017). He had to take a break after "Perception" due to him falling into a deep depression (which he dives into more on "The Search" album). The shopping cart represents a "portable cage" -- which only really makes sense if you go back to his earlier stuff. So my recommendation, if you want to fully understand NF's music, would be to take the "NF Journey"! Someone else will (hopefully) come along and provide the full list, but to get you started, I'd suggest you go back to the "Mansion" album and do "All I Have", "Intro", "Mansion", and "Wake Up" -- those will set a solid foundation. Here's hoping you do more NF! #nfrealmusic

Dude, YES. I’ve never watched reactions before, but addicted to NF reactions. It’s like looking for the same emotions in someone else validates your feelings or something. I don’t know but it’s trippy
The video is filmed in Iceland. The lady on the swing represents his mom who died from an overdose on pills. He said one of his biggest burdens was he didn't call to talk to her before she died. And he never really forgave her for leaving them. But before he came out with this song he said he forgave her. That's why he left some some of his burdens at the swing with her.

Because when asked in an interview about the song "how could you leave us" he said he doesn't feel any animosity towards his mom anymore like he had when he wrote that song.

🎶 This is for anyone new who may want to take the NF journey as we call it because he intertwines his music like marvel movies. All of his albums are like a connected series.
He also hides eggs in his videos which he directs and co produces. For example in his “when i grow up” song there were two hidden eggs in that song: 1. A black balloon by the trash cans (black balloon represents his burdens per search single) 2 In the burger joint he grabbed at receipt that had the date and time of when his song time was being released. Additionally, he had outcast written on his name tag in the janitor scene whic references his Outcast song.
Another example is in the search song he had cage in background he rapped in from his outcast song.
The black smile you will see painted on his mouth is explained in his therapy session song.

It's amazing how quickly you're picking up on a lot of the symbolism! Much of it is from other songs/music videos and it's mostly all connected, but you did an amazing job at your guesses on what's what in a video where most of the stuff is just references to other songs!

NF invests so much into the content that everything is "REAL" ...enjoy everything you see and hear from him...its all worth it.
The people/clothes are "explained" in the Leave Me Alone video. (still cryptically explained but you get some more context).
In Leave Me Alone, they are trading in their black clothes for the white clothes you see in this video, and getting the fake smile painted on from his Therapy Session song. Which I think is symbolizing they're on the path to "getting better" but are still faking it, and he's the outcast still wearing black and not "joining the club" and going along with them. Still trying to find his own way.
There's way more to that video but you'll get there (hopefully)

Love the reaction. This a trip through his mind. The people in the white may be emotions that are burdens to him. He personifies emotions in lots of his lyrics. He calls it a journey and he's on a journey to a healthy mental state and we all have burdens and are on our own journey so he's inviting us and our friends to not only listen to his music and not have to pretend to be ok but be working on getting there.

Yes, the balloons are the burdens. They are dark yet light but he still holds onto them and he carries them around in this cart. The thing is all he has to do is let them go. They're just balloons (burdens).

When the base comes in earlier on in the song when he says it’s probably gonna be a long journey but hey, it’s worth it though. That base when he says that line is like slapping the person in the face who is starting to bow out of helping themselves, and again the base is kinda like the slap in the face of like knock it off. It’s worth it get it done, so why don’t people ever talk about that like you’re a musician and you should see that every single part of this because he has OCD has purpose.

Nf built a world and alot of music up until clouds kinda was about those burdens and dealing with them. So to break it down the balloons are his burdens, I forget what the shipping cart was or if it was addressed, you also see the cage again in outcast, face paint in why and references to his house (his head and mental state) and the mansion (first album, again kinda goes back to the house reference)

This song and video are reminiscent of the book of Exodus… NF is out the the cage/bondage from the tyrant/pharaoh/fear that has ruled his mind- with the keys that have been given to him now he is on the search in the desert/wilderness looking for the the "map to hope." Even though NF is liberated he still carries his burdens and human baggage much like the Israelites did.

They’re out of depression but they’re also like everybody else just roaming through life he is on the search actively trying to get out of depression with the understanding that he will be back into the world where he is just wandering through it. It’s not hard it’s very easy to see what they are trying to achieve with the cinematography, just because you’re not depressed doesn’t mean you’re not wandering through it’s simple I just I still don’t get it. It’s the most exquisite cinematography metaphor that I’ve ever seen because it is so easy to decipher and when people can’t, it hurts my brain because it is so beautifully done.
I think the people in white clothes are people in a mental health facility. And at the end he's given white clothes bc he started his journey to recovery. my theory at least

The cage came from his album Perception. It represents being trapped in his own mind. His burdens are the balloons and the people are like other mental patients (I think) now Ik the shopping cart was in his music video WHY but idk. I’m guessing the swing represents his emotions or something. In his song Face it from the Mansion album his lyrics say “life is a playground. I go through these mood swings watch everything slide down” so maybe the swing was a reference to that but idk that could be a stretch.

He is a Christian who raps. His older stuff is blatantly Christian. Check out his songs, Alone, Your Grace, I got Jesus what you got? and start over
He is an absolute lyrical genius! His songs build on each other in a specific order. Deep and multilayered
Another good person at catching bars is Knox Hill. And sometimes Crypt does these lyric breakdowns where he has a program that highlights the rhyme sounds throughout the song so you can see the internal/double rhymes that you might not catch just listening.
Hope you go on the "NF Journey". That's how you'll know what the symbolic stuff like the cart, cage, balloons etc.
Also, picking NF songs that have videos is like the hardest level of breaking down lyrics, because the videos are so good it's hard to pay attention to the visual references, and catch all the bars lol. "Don't know if I'm making movies or music videos" as the song says.
For a quick reference Houses/mansion etc are his mind. balloons are his burdens, the cage comes from the song Outcast. The shopping cart is like his mobile cage.
The "sequel" to this video is Leave Me Alone. but I'd def recommend the Journey. NF fans love watching new listeners take the journey, its tons of song/content and NF fans will be here for it.

Ignore people screaming about a certain order to listen. Context for these videos expecially is good, and it helps you catch some of the symbolism and themes in most of the videos, but it isn't necessary. Unlike most rappers NF has gotten better at his craft the more he has done. That means that his older music is not as polished as Search or Clouds. This doesn't mean it has no place. I regularly listen to his Mansion album and I love every second, it's goo music and enjoyable to listen to, but comparatively it's nowhere near his current skill. I encourage you to go through the albums in order to get full knowledge in his journey, but I don't think it's necessary to enjoy NF or his music

Grab your balloons and invite your friends. That means the people that are the closest to you can help you release your burdens because the closest people to you that you trust you can talk about them again another easy metaphor and if you had done your research, he’s back again because he literally said in the beginning that he had to take a break, so he’s saying that he’s back he’s healthy enough and confident in his search and he’s about to start dropping new songs and touring.
