    40 years of experience into 4 minutes. Some questions that came from FB. You don't have to cut them in half (to answer a question), I do because they cook easier/faster in a smaller crab pot in halves. Yes! You cook them in same salt water you catch them in, seriously. Tap water has chlorine in it and it breaks down the meat, so when you cook in tap water it is way easier to overcook and that gives you meat that is stringy and harder to get out in nice little chunks (Not to mention it "Waters down the taste"). Using tap, spring or filtered water pulls flavor out of the meat too...Trust me, cook 1 in ocean water and one in what ever you want, then taste, after you can cook the rest in ocean water and you will NEVER cook a crab in anything but ocean water for the rest of your life. :)

      Fascinating! I haven't cooked in salt water yet, but you can bet I'll never cook in tap again! Makes so much sense; all of it! Haven't been in a few years but the last time we went we had a whale follow us around in our dinghy as we checked our pots. So amazing to look a whale in the eye yet so unnerving to know what a flick of its tail could cause!😳

    Never knew that crabs had toxins in them! Guess you learn something new every day

      There are all kinds of pollutants and some allege they filter out that you should not eat. So avoid it if you can clean before cook and it stays out of the water your cooking them in.

    Don't need no knife. Just put the crab on its back, grab all the legs (all of one side in one hand and all of the others in the other hand) and place just the big toes of your shoes on just the edge of the sides of the crab shell, then yank the legs up. Should separate nicely from the shell. Then you simply give the legs a twist and they break apart, making it easy to clear out the crap, as he nicely demonstrates in this video. I just think this method is a bit faster than using a knife. Obviously it's just personal preference though!

      Yes I understand that and I have used rocks, docks and feet . I prefer the knife it's easier to clean them and the cut in half cleanly better then just cracking them in half (sometimes when you crack them they don't split nicely) Cheers

    How do you tell the females from the males?

    • @CoreyOriginals
      @CoreyOriginals  2 роки тому +4

      On the bottom backside of the crab the shell either come to a point = male or it's rounded = Female

      From Fisheries Canada website;
      Crab harvesting size restrictions are in place
      to help ensure that young crab have a chance to
      mature and populate. Fisheries and Oceans Canada
      (DFO) has set regulations for the size and sex (as well
      as quantity) of crab that harvesters can retain:
      • Dungeness crab must measure at
      least 165 millimetres in width
      • Red Rock crab must measure at
      least 115 millimetres in width
      The width of a crab is measured in a straight line
      through the widest part of the shell, from outside the
      points. It is recommended that a caliper device be
      used to measure crab.
